Sports[change | edit source]

The athletics teams of the university are called the Vandals. They have 16 varsity teams and they compete in the Western Athletic Conference. The current 2012 season is the last for WAC football; all of its football-playing schools except for Idaho and New Mexico State will leave for other conferences in July 2013. Idaho will play football as an independent (not in a conference) starting in 2013. The next year, Idaho will return its non-football sports to the Big Sky Conference.
