İstiklâl Marşı (English: Independence March) is now the national anthem of the Republic of Turkey and Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. It was adopted in 12 March 1921. Penned by Mehmet Âkif Ersoy, ultimately composed by Osman Zeki Üngör.
The lyrics of the Turkish National Anthem consist of a long poem with 41 lines of verse. Only the first 8 lines are performed in ceremonies.
