Deri was a Member of Knesset from 1992 to 1999. He returned in parliament in 2013.
In the Fourth Netanyahu Government he was minister of the Development of Galilee and the Negev, and also interior minister. In the Fifth Netanyahu Government he has the same position. He has had several government positions before this.
In 2000 he was sent to prison because of financial crimes.
