Avengers: Endgame is a 2019 American superhero movie based on the Marvel Comics superhero team the Avengers. The movie is produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It is the direct sequel to Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and the 22nd movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

The movie was directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, with the screenplay written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. It features an ensemble cast including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson, Karen Gillan, Danai Gurira, Benedict Wong, Jon Favreau, Bradley Cooper, Gwyneth Paltrow and Josh Brolin. The movie was about how the Avengers tried to fix what Thanos did in Infinity War by reclaiming the Infinity Stones throughout time from previously featured MCU characters such as The Ancient One, Jane Foster, Frigga and Red Skull.

Avengers: Endgame premiered in Los Angeles on April 22, 2019 and was released in the United States on April 26.

Plot

In 2018, after Thanos wiped out half of all life in the universe by using the Infinity Stones, Carol Danvers \ Captain Marvel rescues Tony Stark \ Iron Man and Nebula from space and brings them back to Earth. Stark argues with Steve Rogers \ Captain America before passing out due to exhaustion. Rocket locates Thanos on a distant planet called The Garden, so he flies Rogers, Thor, Bruce Banner, Natasha Romanoff \ Black Widow, James Rhodes \ War Machine, Nebula, and Danvers there only to discover that Thanos has destroyed the Stones to prevent their further use. Enraged, Thor kills Thanos by chopping his head off.

Five years later, Scott Lang \ Ant-Man escapes from the Quantum Realm and goes to the Avengers Compound to meet with Rogers and Romanoff. Lang explains that the five years he spent in the Quantum Realm felt like only five hours to him. He suggests using the Quantum Realm’s time-altering properties to reverse the effects of Thanos’ snap. Lang, Rogers, and Romanoff run some time-travel tests with Banner, who has merged his brain with the Hulk’s body. Banner, Stark, and Rocket work on building a Time Machine. Lang explains that each team member only has enough Pym Particles for one round trip.

Banner and Rocket go to New Asgard in Norway to bring Thor back to the team, and find that he has become an overweight alcoholic due to depression. Romanoff finds Clint Barton, who has become a vigilante called Ronin after his entire family was killed in the snap. Once the team is reunited, they split into smaller groups to retrieve the stones from previous points in time.

Stark, Rogers, Banner, and Lang travel to New York City in 2012, during the events of The Avengers (2012). Banner convinces the Ancient One to give him the Time Stone. Rogers fights the 2012-version of himself in order to retrieve the Mind Stone. Stark and Lang fail to retrieve the Space Stone, as Loki disappeared with the Tesseract. Stark travels with Rogers back to 1970, where Stark retrieves the Tesseract, and runs into his father, Howard. Rogers takes some extra Pym Particles for himself and Stark to use in order to get back to 2023.

Thor and Rocket travel to Asgard in 2013, during the events of Thor: The Dark World (2013). Rocket extracts the Reality Stone from Jane Foster while Thor reunites with his mother, Frigga, and retrieves his hammer, Mjolnir.

Romanoff, Barton, Nebula, and Rhodes travel to Morag in 2014, during the events of Guardians of the Galaxy (2014). Nebula and Rhodes knock Peter Quill \ Star-Lord unconscious in order to take a tool of his to retrieve the Power Stone with. The 2014-version of Nebula becomes linked to her future self, allowing the 2014-version of Thanos to learn about the Avengers’ plan. Thanos captures the 2023-Nebula and sends 2014-Nebula to infiltrate the Avengers. Meanwhile, Romanoff and Barton go to Vormir to retrieve the Soul Stone. Romanoff sacrifices her life so Barton can retrieve the stone.

After the team reunites in 2023, Stark, Banner, and Rocket create a nano-tech Infinity Gauntlet. Banner uses the Stones to restore everyone who was erased by Thanos. However, 2014-Thanos travels to the present and fires missiles at the Avengers Compound, destroying it. Stark, Rogers, and Thor fight Thanos while 2014-Nebula retrieves the Gauntlet from Barton. 2023-Nebula shoots 2014-Nebula and gives the Gauntlet back to Barton. During the fight against Thanos, Stark is knocked unconscious and Thor is nearly killed, before being saved by Rogers, who wields Mjolnir. As Rogers prepares to face Thanos and his army alone, all of the restored heroes arrive to assist him. Stark regains consciousness and Lang rescues Banner, Rhodes, and Rocket, who were trapped underneath rubble. Barton gives the Gauntlet to T’Challa \ Black Panther, who gives it to Peter Parker \ Spider-Man. Thanos tells Corvius Glave to fire more missiles, before Danvers arrives and destroys Thanos’ ship. Parker gives the Gauntlet to Danvers, but it is soon taken by Thanos. Stark takes the stones from the Gauntlet and snaps his fingers to erase Thanos and his forces, sacrificing his own life in the process.

After attending Stark's funeral, Thor leaves New Asgard with the restored Guardians of the Galaxy. Rogers returns the Stones to their original timelines. Rogers chooses to remain in the past with Peggy Carter and later gives his shield to Sam Wilson.
