Relevance of slavery in family background[change source]

This is in response to this edit. I think it is relevant because slavery helped to build generational wealth, and Wikipedia pages about wealthy and famous people often describe the activities of their ancestors. DoSazunielle (talk) 18:20, 16 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

These are his ancestors, and do not have much relevance to him. And why not just wealthy background, the source of wealth should be included in his parent pages (if they are notable), not him (cross -posted from user talkpage) Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 18:21, 16 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The source states distant cousins. As a result, I don't see how he could have got his wealth from this. I agree with the revert, per both BLP and NPOV. --IWI (talk) 18:25, 16 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No it doesn't. The sources states that it was her direct ancestor. DoSazunielle (talk) 18:26, 16 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The source reads "The records showed Gen Sir James Duff, ... Cameron’s first cousin six times removed." - https://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/sep/29/how-do-we-know-david-cameron-has-slave-owning-ancestor. I.e. first cousin six times removed means it's cousin, not direct family. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 18:30, 16 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
(change conflict) It seems unlikely she got any money from the slave payments. In any case, I see no relevance to include this in the article at all; I don't see the significance of it. --IWI (talk) 18:32, 16 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Camouflaged Mirage: That refers to David Cameron; the source does say Samantha is descended from a slave trader. --IWI (talk) 18:32, 16 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@ImprovedWikiImprovment Oh I see, my bad. Yes, I agree there isn't any relevance, it might be relevant in his parents or grandparents article but not him. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 18:34, 16 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
There is a lot of research about how slavery was important for wealth and wealth helps people achieve more important roles in society. Would the edits be OK if they used the research as a source as well? DoSazunielle (talk) 18:39, 16 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@DoSazunielle This will be en:WP:SYNTH, while wealth might be obtained via slavery, and wealth can help people to achieve important roles (maybe via backend means), slavery doesn't help people achieve important roles in this way. In addition, these research aren't directly relevant to her per say, may be okay in slavery article. I think you are very keen into WP:OR, I will feel en.wikiversity.org will be better for you as there allows research, and what you wrote can be perfectly accepted there. If there was one source which described how slavery helped Samantha Cameron achieve an important role in society, would that be OK to mention? DoSazunielle (talk) 18:45, 16 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@DoSazunielle It must comply with WP:BLP and the source must be a WP:RS. I will rather a couple of sources to be sure but one very good one can be acceptable. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 18:46, 16 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
