Selected article starAttention:This IP address, 204.128.70.65, belongs to Brevard Public Schools and may be shared by many users of a school. In the case of schools using proxy servers, this IP address may in fact represent many users at many different computers.

Because of this, a message meant for one person may be gotten by another and a block will be shared by many people. If you are editing from this address and are getting messages because of other people, you can avoid them by creating an account for yourself. In some cases you may not be able to create an account for a while because of people trying to fight vandalism.

Caution should be used when blocking this IP or reverting its contributions without checking - if a block is needed, administrators should consider a soft block.

Note: In the event of on going vandalism, anonymous editing from this IP address may not be allowed for up to 6 months at a time while abuse reports may be sent to your school administration for investigation in cases of long-term abuse by registered users.
This IP address has been repeatedly blocked from editing the English Wikipedia in response to abuse of editing privileges.
Further abuse from this IP address may result in an extended block.

If this is a shared IP address, and you didn't make the edit, consider creating an account for yourself so you can avoid further irrelevant notices.

March 2009[change source]

  1. Please stop putting reports on WP:VIP! As an admin I can assure you that we monitor all vandalism on this site and have a very dedicated team of editors and admins who look after these things. If you continue to make reports like you do, you could be blocked yourself for disrupting the project. Thank you fr33kman talk 14:54, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
VIP is only for ACTIVE vandalism, not future or past fr33kman talk 14:58, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If they vandalized in January and February, what reason do I have to think they won't vandalize in March and April? 204.128.70.65 (talk) 14:59, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
They might very do that; we'll deal with it when and if it happens. We don't block account before the fact. This account is used by multiple people, some will be vandals some won't. Do you feel that they people who are not being vandals should be punished because of those that are? If we block the IP address no one can edit. fr33kman talk 15:03, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
A soft block, unless I am mistaken, allows for registered users to log in and make necessary changes. There is no reason why a shared IP address needs to be permitted to make changes without an individual logging in. From my experience, the point of IP logging is to keep track of who makes what changes to the projects. This is not possible when the IP address represents many people at many computers. How often must an anon account vandalize pages before they are blocked? Surely vandalism each month is sufficient, much less multiple times per month. For example, on the English Wikipedia, this account has made at least a dozen disruptive edits since 2004, and luckily an admin blocked this account for a year. During that time, I have not seen any trouble with users unable to make good-faith edits from these computers. All that is necessary is logging in to make the change and logging out afterward. And if someone doesn't have an account, they can make on at home (if creation of accounts is disabled in the block). In any event, if this account is not blocked, I would request that someone in whatever Wikiproject handles ongoing vandalism to check this account's contributions every few months or so to make sure this account is being used for vandalism. 204.128.70.65 (talk) 15:15, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
"Wikipedia is the encyclopedia anyone can edit": This includes anonymous users. We don't block shared IP addresses without a very serious reason. Frankly, I don't care what they do at enWP; we have a different set of needs and policies here on seWP. There is also no need for people to watch this account in any special way; we watch ALL changes that happen to this site and act on vandalism when it occurs regardless of who is doing it. There is no WikiProject for vandalism here; we all watch for vandalism and, if I say so myself, we do a pretty darned good job at catching it; very little slips by us. Thank you for your concerns but I still don't feel a block is warranted at this time. fr33kman talk 15:31, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
