Simple English Wiki page BlackPanther OS does not meet criterion for quick deletion: G:11, Obvious advertising[change source]
Anyone who has requested this page to be deleted on grounds of meeting the quick deletion criterion G:11, Obvious advertising. Obvious advertising: Pages which were created only to say good things about a company, item, group or service and which would need to be written again so that they can be encyclopedic. However, simply having a company, item, group or service as its subject does not mean that an article can be deleted because of this rule: an article that is obvious advertising should have content that shouldn't be in an encyclopedia. If a page has already gone through RfD or QD and was not deleted, it should not be quickly deleted using this rule.
1. "Pages which were created only to say good things about a company, item, group or service and which would need to be written again so that they can be encyclopedic." This simple English page was created on the basis of the Hungarian BlackPanther OS wiki page since it did not (at the time of creating the Hungarian wiki page) have an English language wiki page and it seemed a reasonable way to start since there is international demand regarding an informative, encyclopaedic page for the product (it has multiple English speaking users in its facebook user group and obviously the product receives considerably more international attention if it has a wiki page therefore the developer(s) do not welcome the idea of deleting it).
2. "...which would need to be written again so that they can be encyclopedic." It would not have to be rewritten, only expanded to fully comply with the content and structure of the Hungarian wiki page since it was created as an interim webite while the English BlackPanther OS wiki page was being created, and not "only to say good things about a company, item, group or service". By the way, it states facts therefore the purpose of its creating could not have been "only to say good things about a company, item, group or service" since it was created to provide information to reach people looking for English language information on this particular product.
Therefore I would like to justify this undelete request on the basis of the obvious intention that this simple English wiki page will be very soo expanded and publsihed as the English language version of the Hungarian wiki page. I would like to ask for a deadline until which the English language version of the Hungarian BlackPanther OS wiki page shall be prepared. Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tczgabor (talk • contribs)
- What you have mentioned above has not demonstrated to me that the article does not actually fulfill QD G11:
- 1. Just because the article here "was created on the basis of the Hungarian" article does not exempt this article from the QD criteria.
- 2. I argue that the article will have to be rewritten so that it can be encyclopedic (I have bolded some problematic parts):
“ | blackPanther OS is a free operating system developed by Hungarian developers. It has been in development since 2002. This distribution combines many good features form major distributions. The original aim of the developers was to reduce the differences between Microsoft Windows and Linux. Beginners choose it for ease of use, experienced users choose it for stability and reliability. | ” |
- I cannot accept your justification for this undelete request. This wiki has no obligation to the Hungarian Wikipedia for providing an English language version of their article.
- Also, from your message, it seems that you are one of the developers of the OS? "...and obviously the product receives considerably more international attention if it has a wiki page therefore the developer(s) do not welcome the idea of deleting it". Please note that you may have a conflict of interest. If the operating system is truly notable, there should not be a need for the developers themselves to write an article about the OS; other users will naturally end up writing such an article.
- If you would like to make a further appeal, please go to Wikipedia:Deletion review. Chenzw Talk 17:24, 13 November 2016 (UTC)

Re: Simple English Wiki page BlackPanther OS does not meet criterion for quick deletion: QD: G11, Obvious advertising - comments observed, quick reply[change source]
Hi! I've noted your comments. It seems that there is no real room for argument here, therefore, taking your observations and the requirements for wiki pages into consideration, I am going to recreate the BlackPanther OS Simple English wiki page in a properly encyclopaedic manner that does not classify as being advertisement-like. Regarding your question: I am not a developer of the OS, I am a contributor to the development of the OS, however, the developers' concerns are my concerns as well. Odd change by ChenzwBot[change source]
I don't understand this edit by ChenzwBot. The IP editor changed the template parameters to the correct spelling, and the bot changed them back. --Auntof6 (talk) 10:54, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
- I am not quite sure why either, but I will be adding this edit to the training queue. Hopefully it will not happen again. Chenzw Talk 11:44, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
- OK, thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 12:24, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

Recent changes
- Administrators, bureaucrats, oversighters and checkusers can now use two-factor authentication. This makes their Wikimedia accounts more secure. This can be turned on in Special:Preferences. There are discussions on how to best turn it on for everyone. [12]
- You can now search for file properties. For example you can search for media type, how big a file is or what resolution it has. [13]
- The latest Collaboration team products newsletter has been published. It has more details about their work than Tech News has.
Problems
- A hacker group is hacking Wikimedia accounts. They can probably do this because users have the same passwords on Wikimedia wikis as on other sites. Please have a password you use only on the Wikimedia wikis and nowhere else. This is especially important for administrators, bureaucrats, oversighters and checkusers. These users can also turn on two-factor authentication. [14]
Changes this week
- There is no new MediaWiki version this week.
- RevisionSlider will be a default feature on German, Arabic and Hebrew Wikipedia. This will happen on 22 November. It will come to other wikis later. [15][16][17]
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the VisualEditor team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 22 November at 19:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- It will be possible to do cross-wiki search. The developers who work on this are looking for communities that want to test this. [18]
- Hovercards will leave the beta stage. The Wikimedia Foundation Reading Web team wants communities to set Hovercards as a default option for readers who are not logged in. Communities that are interested can say so on the Hovercards talk page. [19]

Changes this week
- When someone tries to log in to a blocked account they will be blocked by a cookie. This means their browser will be blocked even if they change their IP address. This makes it more difficult for returning vandals. [20]
- When you use Content Translation to adapt a template to a new translation it will work differently. You can adapt big templates such as infoboxes. Translators will have control over the template parameters. A first version of this is released this week. It is possible it will not work correctly with all templates. There will be more updates for this soon. [21]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 29 November. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 30 November. It will be on all wikis from 1 December (calendar).
- Gadgets will have a new option called "hidden". This means you can register gadgets that can't be turned on or off from the preferences page. Hiding gadgets was already possible by using
[rights=hidden]
. You should now use[hidden]
instead.[rights=hidden]
in old gadgets should be changed to[hidden]
. [22][23]

- You can join the next meeting with the VisualEditor team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 29 November at 19:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- Tool Labs could get two new policies. One would be to be able to adopt tools without an active developer. The other would be a right to fork. There is a request for comment on Meta.

Your bot reports already reported people[change source]
Earlier today, I reported an IP for vandalism. A few minutes later, ChenzwBot reported the IP again. Is this a bug or do you have a reason for it? Computer Fizz (talk) 21:34, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) I don't think ChenzwBot checks to see if a user has already been reported. The bot doesn't even edit the same page that user reports are on; it edits a separate page that's transcluded onto the main page. --Auntof6 (talk) 23:19, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
- What Auntof6 said is right - the bot doesn't check for existing reports. I will, however, look into addressing this soon. Chenzw Talk 01:28, 29 November 2016 (UTC)
