Welcome[change source]

Hello, LaraLove, and welcome to the Simple English Wikipedia! I hope you will be happy helping here. You should begin by reading these pages: Wikipedia:Useful, Help:Contents, Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines, and how to write Simple English articles. If you want some ideas of which pages to work on, read Wikipedia:Requested articles or the list of wanted pages.

Even though it is a good idea to research an article (like looking at the discussion page) before making large changes, please be bold and try! Any changes you make that are not perfect can be fixed later. We are also working most on core articles and the most common topics until this Wikipedia grows.

If you want to ask a question or talk with other members, you can visit our version of the "village pump" at Wikipedia:Simple talk. Administrators on Wikipedia can also help you with more difficult problems. You can also ask me for help. The best way to do that is to leave a message on my talk page. You should always sign your messages on Talk pages by typing "~~~~" (four tildes) at the end of your words.

If you would like to test Wikipedia, please use the sandbox. Please do not test Wikipedia by editing its articles.

Good luck and happy editing!--Cometstyles 12:15, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good to see you here. Hope the bite's getting ok... Much bathroom love.. The Rambling Man (talk) 19:52, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bathroom love sounds weird.... Bathrobe love! I plan to hang around here for a while, where it seems quiet. Write a few articles and such. Should be fun. Hate to see you've retired! :( LaraLove|Talk 20:40, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Bathroom love, eh ;-) —Giggy 23:19, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds very Larry Craig to me... not my style. I prefer a narrow stance. >_> LaraLove|Talk 00:24, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there![change source]

Hello there, LaraLove! I haven't seen you around this Wikipedia lately (within the past few weeks (but then again, I wasn't on here the past couple of weeks either)), and I just wanted to say that I appreciate the work that you have been doing for this Wikipedia so far! Keep up the good work! Cheers, Razorflame 04:17, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Razorflame. I haven't been around in a while, or much really. But I plan to contribute here for a while. A break from the anxiety, stress and drama of en. LaraLove|Talk 04:29, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I know what you mean. I edited there for about a month, and during that month, I managed to archive my talk page about 5 times and I also managed to make about as many friends as I made enemies over on that site. While this is my home Wikipedia, I do also have a good amount of edits on the English Wikipedia as well. I believe that I have around 11,000 edits over on en:WP, but that isn't enough for en:WP to be considered my home wiki because I have nearly 24,000 edits on this site :) You will probably be seeing me around on this site quite a bit from now on. I usually am one of the most active editors on this site :P Cheers, Razorflame 04:34, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Haha, good to know. That tells me who to message when I need help! :D LaraLove|Talk 05:45, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

<-- Hi LaraLove, nice to see you here. I'm also an active user here. ;) Over 4500 edits in 1 month, but then again, who cares, it's quality that matters, not quantity. Anyway, you said en:WP is stressful being an administrator there I see. I think you might like the following quote:

The Simple English Wikipedia is like a refreshing breath of air compared to the damned and constant infighting over at our big brother. Tenuous editing, edit warring, 3RR; massive sockpuppetry; hundreds of blocks issued and pages deleted, AFD discsussions opened; thousands of kilobytes of text on AN and ANI and RFAR; here, nothing. A pure experience, focusing on what Wikipedis is really about – the improvement of articles.

Cassandra on Simple Talk

Thanks, Ryan†Cross (talk) 05:58, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Stop it Ryan, you're embarassing me. :/ I never imagined that my quote would become so popular (seconded and thirded by The Rambling Man and American Eagle, quoted by Gwib and you). Cassandra 06:43, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry Cassandra, but I just really liked that quote; it shows what Simple English Wikipedia really is, and it shows how there are so many problems with the English Wikipedia. Our's is just a nice and quiet place where everybody can contribute peacefully. :) -- Ryan†Cross (talk) 06:56, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Haha. It's a good quote, and it pretty much sums up my feelings. I said something along those lines in IRC yesterday... or maybe it was on my user page here... >_> Well, either way. The English Wikipedia used to be great fun, then I got deeper into the behind the scenes stuff and saw just what a monumental mess it is. Not only is there rampant vandalism and abusive sockpuppetry, hundreds of blocks and XFDs, thousands of deletions, and an encyclopedia worth of text on the various noticeboards and community talk pages each day; then there's the RFCs, Arbitration and all the mudslinging that goes with them. The community is so large and with so many different personalities, that anyone can say anything about anyone else, and no matter how untrue it is, it becomes truth to a portion of the community. There's shameful manipulation and gaming of the system, double standards, unchecked abuse of power, and so many administrators and others in positions of denied power who are, too often, overly concerned with the politics of the place to do what is right. It's also too large to get anything done, because no one can agree on much of anything to the point of consensus. More drama than any one place should ever have, and—dare I say—corrupt "upper management".
I don't think anyone will be quoting me, but that's my view from an administrator's standpoint. Hopefully things improve. There's certainly an opportunity for it now, but I guess it all depends on just how bad that last part is. Add to all that the fact that my favorite editor on the project is on a nine month ban, and the result is that my passion for the project has diminished. I've had all the drama I care for this year. Sometimes you just have to go take a walk. As for Simple English Wikipedia, as someone who just dropped by to take a look around, it seems calm and quiet; a peaceful project focused on building articles. It seems so nice, in fact, that I decided to stay. Maybe it's a vacation, maybe it's a relocation. Who knows. With almost 20,000 edits to the English Wikipedia, it will take quite some time for any project to replace it as my "home project", but they say home is where the heart is, not where you have the highest edit count. Arbitrary break[change source]

Inspiring. It took me 1 edit here to get the {{welcome}} message, and about 50 over at EN to get it. Truly inspiring. --Gwib -(talk)- 16:15, 24 July 2008 (UTC) ps. gorgeous wikishirt! [reply]

Yes, I was welcomed here instantly, but I still haven't been on enwiki :( - tholly --Turnip-- 16:53, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Just wanted to drop you a line. As everyone said, we are a small team; most of the news will be at Simple talk. We also have two categories of better articles, Good Articles (list, criteria, proposals) and Very Good Articles (list, criteria, proposals). As you might have read on simple talk, the voting process is talked about again; some people have become frustrated over the current way to vote. Just wanted to let you know, if you ever stuble across an article that you think is worth telling others about.--Eptalon (talk) 21:01, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ohai Lara :)
Guess who? Sebb Talk 21:10, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Sam. Eptalon, I did a lot of work in the Good Articles project on en. I created a couple task forces, started sweeps, participated in the discussions that strengthened the criteria, initiated changes in a lot of areas, including bringing a consistency to the project and improving the quality. I'm not sure what issues are happening with the article ranking process(es) here, but I may be able to bring a lot of insight from my extensive experiences with GA on en (about 90% of my first 9,000 edits). LaraLove|Talk 22:07, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

(Very) good articles[change source]

Please see my post on Simple talk and the discussion on the proposed Very good article page. --Eptalon (talk) 22:34, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Undertow (Tool album) has now been created. With a tasteful edit summary. Synergy (talk) 12:18, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Name change[change source]

I like the new name, though I wonder, is it a reference to something? A Google search brings up links to a reality show contestant... --TBC 22:20, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yea, Mike_H and I watched all of the webisodes of season 2 that were available on YouTube last week. It was great fun! XD And I really like the name. It's unique, feminine and pretty. ~Jennavecia (Talk) 06:27, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I hope to see you again :). Cheers, Razorflame 04:10, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Razor. Thanks. I'll be back soon. I've been busy IRL and doing some work on en. :) ~Jennavecia (Talk) 04:46, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for voting on my RfA. I cannot wait until you come back onto this site and help us expand our horizons some more :). Cheers, Razorflame 03:26, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reply to your Oppose on my RfA[change source]

I just wanted to let you know that I replied to your oppose vote in my RfA. The reason why I am telling you on your talk page is because I did not think that you would have noticed my reply to your oppose if I didn't tell you about it. Cheers, Razorflame 03:26, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the note. Jennavecia (Talk) 13:42, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

After a brief stalk, I saw you leave this edit summary. It's still alive over at SEWT after being classified as a {{dicdef}}. --Gwib -(talk)- 06:13, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Classified by whom? It's just interesting to me that page creators get no notice outside of a redlink. And interesting how a place I retreat to in order to get a break from stress results in me not even being able to quietly edit an article without edit conflicting literally immediately after an edit before someone else is in behind me to add what I am attempting to add. That is, however, totally unrelated to the matter at hand. Jennavecia (Talk) 06:30, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Meh, we're too small a wiki to notify each author when (if?) their articles are deleted. Bad luck on the edit conflict though, there are a few smaller wikis you could retreat further to where stress is non-existant! Old Church Slavonic Wikipedia has about 330 articles and there isn't any conflict at all there :)
Although you'd have to learn Old Church Slavonic... --Gwib -(talk)- 06:35, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'd rather learn Spanish. More practical for everyday use and all. Sigh. I'm not going to get into a discussion concerning "small wiki = no need to inform users of things". I've got enough stress from the other project as it is. What would be helpful is if editors didn't use recent changes as a means to find something to do, at least not when someone else is actively working on the article. At least a couple minutes would be nice. Jennavecia (Talk) 06:49, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It happens to everyone. I don't see why its a big deal. We all work on articles together here. You'll have to get used to it. Its called help. Synergy 06:53, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't want your help Synergy. I want to edit in peace. I get the whole wiki thing, obviously, but I also get that there are a lot of other pages, and I don't need you jumping on my back to edit seconds after me when I'm making the same edit. Jennavecia (Talk) 06:56, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
