Welcome to Simple English Wikipedia[change source]

Hi, Z10987, welcome to Simple English Wikipedia! Thank you for your changes. If you need help, check out the Help section of Wikipedia, or leave a message on my talk page. Whenever leaving messages on talk pages, please remember to sign your name by typing four 'tildes' (like this: ~~~~); doing this makes your name and the date show up. Also, it helps if you write something in the box that says 'change summary' whenever you change an article. Below are some useful links to make your time here simpler. Happy changing! Thank you for your warm welcome! Z10987 (talk) 12:57, 9 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I am always pleased when we get someone new making a contribution. If you need any help, especially in some of the strange world of Simple English, please ask. Writing in a simple way is not easy. I enjoy it because it really makes me think hard about saying something complex in a way that others can understand. If you look at this reply, you might see that the only complex word I have used is "contribution". Enjoy making it simple!--Peterdownunder (talk) 13:09, 9 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I found that writing articles in the Simple English Wikipedia is harder than I thought, even harder than writing in the English Wikipedia. It's more messy and there's a limited number of wikilinks that can be inserted because of the lack of articles, and it's really hard to put things down using just simple vocal and grammar. Thanks for giving me that example. it really opened my eyes to what's to be done here. But I find that this is something that has got to be done. It'll be exciting to have a greatly expanded Simple Wikipedia :)

Thanks for the new articles![change source]

Hello, Z10987! Thanks for the new articles you created. When you create articles, would you please try to put appropriate categories on them? For articles about people, you would usually have categories for their year of birth, their year of death (or "Living people" if they are still alive), their nationality, and what makes them notable (such as their profession or something they did).

Also, here at Simple English Wikipedia we use the section heading "Related pages" instead of English Wikipedia's "See also". This makes it simpler and easier to read. Please remember to use "Related pages" in articles that you create in the future. Thank you for your help! --Auntof6 (talk) 02:56, 10 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Auntof6, thanks for giving me these tips about creating new pages here. I will keep them in mind when I create more pages in the future. Cheers, Z10987 (talk) 02:57, 10 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. Let me know if you need help figuring out the categories. By the way, I saw the note on your user page about categories with fewer than three entries. It would be best to wait until there are three entries before creating a category. Any categories without at least three entries could be deleted. --Auntof6 (talk) 04:57, 10 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for telling me about the categories. I'll try to add more articles, and delete categories I made that don't have enough articles ASAP. Z10987 (talk) 07:26, 10 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Copy-paste of enWiki articles or sections[change source]

We like and strongly encourage helpful changes to Wikipedia, but a section in an article you created, Shilin District, was directly copied and pasted from the main English Wikipedia article. Please do not do that. Such articles are usually too complex. They need to be simplified before or immediately after being added to the Simple English Wikipedia. Thank you. Rus793 (talk) 12:40, 10 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I am sorry about leaving that there. I meant to change some of the words, but didn't manage to do that immediately after copying the article. I will exercise more discretion in the future in this area. Z10987 (talk) 13:59, 10 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. I have already amended the page. Is it considered simplified enough? Z10987 (talk) 14:00, 10 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Your changes were good but there are differences between Simple English Wikipedia and the English Wikipedia that go beyond a few word changes. The article still has too many compound and/or complex sentences. A few such sentences are sometimes hard to avoid but are usually offset by using more simple sentences. Basically, we also wikify our articles; which means to link any words not in Basic English to other Simple English Wikipedia articles and (nouns only) to Simple English Wiktionary. The guide Wikipedia:How to write Simple English pages should help explain how to write and simplify an article here. You can also copy articles from other Wikipedias but with certain provisions. See Wikipedia:How to copy from another Wikipedia. We have several aids to help you simplify articles. Some are in the 'how to write Simple English pages' guide. Another is to use the Simple English Wiktionary. Any words that are part of Basic English are identified as such in Wiktionary right under the word you were looking up. Keep in mind tags on pages are not directed at the original editor, they're for all editors here. An editor addresses the problem, then clears the tag. I hope this helps. If you have any questions just ask. Rus793 (talk) 15:04, 10 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You can also use the "in use" template which lets other editors know that a page is still being worked on, and is not just pasted and forgotten. When I copy and paste a page, or import, I slap that template on as the first edit. It should keep other editors from stepping in straight away. It can be really frustrating when you have simplified a large section, only to find an edit conflict because another editor has put a "complex" tag or other notice on the page. However an inuse tag should only be used while you are actually editing the page, or called away briefly to eat for example. It should not be left there for long periods of time.--Peterdownunder (talk) 11:40, 11 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The page you wrote, Postal codes in Taiwan, has been selected for quick deletion. If you think this page should be kept, please add {{wait}} below the line {{QD}} and say why on the talk page. If the page is already gone, but you think this was an error, you can ask for it to be undeleted. You can find more information about the reason here. Rus793 (talk) 13:25, 11 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

June 2014[change source]

Hello! Thank you for creating Category:Museums in Taipei. However, we normally need at least three pages in a category before it is created. Because categories are a way to group together similar articles, there is no need to create a new category for just one or two articles. If you think there might be more pages to add to the new category, please add them now. Thank you. Auntof6 (talk) 23:25, 24 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
