"April 9, 2004 The Welsh Wikipedia (http://cy.wikipedia.org) reached 1,000 articles at 00.01 BST. The 1000th article was [cy:Laura Ann Jones], about a member of the Welsh National Assembly."

Is this relevant to simple english wikipedia? just wondering.

I think that we will very soon reach 10,000 articles. All should work to achieve this. Thanks. --Bhadani 16:34, 12 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is there really a point to updating the announcements for every 1,000 new pages? Exert 20:36, 12 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Not when most of them are pointless. We should focus on being proud of good content. Problem is it's easy to create a stub, or ten, or a hundred, or a thousand, on nothing useful to the world. We need a basic list of topics and when 1,000 of them are good then we can be proud and make an announcement. Right now, this Wikipedia is just being used as an alternative to Facebook. More content, more excellence, more more more. The Rambling Man (talk) 20:46, 12 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, I'm just going to RFD this page then. Exert 20:54, 12 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, good one. The point is that this Wikipedia has become a social network site (which is why there's no progress on good or very good articles) so I'll be advocating the closure of this entire Wikipedia unless some progress is made. The Rambling Man (talk) 20:58, 12 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Per the thoughts posted here and at the RFD I think it is safe to say that we can begin reducing this page greatly. We can start by removing the entries for every 1,000. I would like to keep the milestones, like the first thousand, the first 5 thousand, and then every even numbered 10,000 increment after that. ie, ten thousand, twenty thousand, thirty thousand ect. What are your thoughts on that? After we have it reduced, we can begin adding the VGAs and the GAs.--Gordonrox24 | Talk 21:38, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Why the new addition? I thought it was agreed that this page was only to be updated with large accomplishments...--Gordonrox24 | Talk 04:29, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This hasn't been updated since 2017. I propose we update it every 6 months (June and January). I've updated it today. IWI (chat) 18:40, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Could we get a bot to do this if possible? Tsugaru let's talk! :) 04:27, 8 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion[change source]

Instead of "As of this milestone, the Simple English Wikipedia has: (whatever)", just say "Now Simple English Wikipedia has...(whatever)" Phrases like "As of this..." are much too formal, and actually not very good English. Macdonald-ross (talk) 06:32, 20 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

In general, this seems fairly redundant seeing as few people are going to see it and doesn't really hold any value in the community. MrMeAndMrMeLet's talk 04:32, 21 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Ferien: Can this get updated it hasn't been updated in 2 years and according to the statistics page we have recently hit 750k total pages. 3/4 of a million. Special:Statistics Bobherry Talk My Changes 23:01, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
