Behak Maken was a small town at the beginning of the British Empire, Village in the Sargodha District in the Punjab province of Pakistan. It is 17.5 km from Sargodha City and 10 KM away from Dhreema, due to its geographical location, the British Royal Air Force built an air base between Chak No 92 NB and Chak No 105 NB(Godhay wala) near behak maken. It took on greater importance after the Independence of Pakistan for the Pakistan Air Force. The population grew rapidly,Approximately 75% of the Maken caste reside in Behak Maken

[change] Allocation & Villages (Maken Caste)

The Maken are mainly in Sargodha, Khushab, Jhelum, Gujrat, Vehari, Jhang, Multan, Khanewal, Bahawalnagar, Rajanpur and Mandi Bahauddin districts. Their main villages in Sargodha District are Behak Maken,Sultanpur,Chak No 88 N.B., Chak no 189 N.B, Buslana, Sahiwal | Nihang Chak 71 Chak 74 NB,Faiz sultan colony, Shahpur, Kot Bhai Khan, Kot Pehlwan, Aqal Shah, Kot Kamboh, Wadhi, Mochiwal, Kot Shada and many more. Their most important village in Jhelum District is Chautala, in Gujrat District their main rural community is Mekan in Kharian Tehsil. In Mandi Bahauddin District, their central village is Maken. In Chakwal District there are a lot of Maken villages such as Thanil Kamal, Dingi Zer, Dhoke Dhabri, Dhoke Maken near Thoa Bahdur. Behak Maken was founded when Raja Singh first came to the Sargodha district. It is claimed that Baba Farid Ganj Shakr appeared to Singh to instruct him in Islam after which the Raja settled permanently in the district with his family as a Muslim. The word Maken came from urdu word مے کن mean Bar Keeper (شراب فروش). They claim descent from the Parmara Rajputs, and spring from the same ancestor as the Dhudhi tribe. The tribe claims to have settled in the Thal, after the end of Arab rule in Sindh. The Hindu king of Kanauj, a Parmar Rajput took possession of the region, and settled his kinsmen, the Maken. They ruled Mankera for five hundred years. Their conversion to the faith is recorded during the time of Ghias-ud-din Balban, courtesy of Baba Farid Ganj Shakr. Towards the end of the fifteenth century, the Baloch from Makran flocked into the country in and around Mankera, and subsequently ruled this state for the next three hundred years.

They are courageous and prudent. They have a history of bravery and most of the Maken's ancestors were warlords. In the present Pakistan's /Indian's history they have been appointed on important Public positions and some are very famous politicians.

According to the 1998 census of Pakistan the village had a population of 5,513 of which In May 2011 the population of Behak Maken was estimated at 7000. About 90% of the people are Sunni Islam. The predominant ethnic population in the village is Punjabi with small communities of Muhajirs and Pashtuns.

The vast fields on the village have allowed the farmers to develop a range of crops and animal breeding programs. Some of the main crops include citrus, wheat, rice, and sugar cane which are exported to the other cities as well as internationally. Citrus fruits such as oranges (locally known as kinnows) are main fruits grown in the village.As well as Jaman, Guavas and Mangoes Pears, Dates, Pomegranate, Phalsa and Almond are also grown in minor quantities. Turnip, Onion, Cauliflower, Potatoes and Tomatoes are main vegetables grown in the village. The main livestock for the village include goats, sheep, buffaloes and cattle.As well as The village supports an orange processing factory in Jhang road near 92 mor stop. Haji Riaz maken and Haji Maqbool Elahi are owner of this factory. Ch.Fiaz Maken general manager and Rehmat khan is supervisor of this factory.

Behak Maken has an elementary school for boys and one primary school for girls. Many students go to University/Collages for their studies at Sargodha and Sahiwal,many children are studies in Chak No 84 NB (English medium school) also study in academy at Sargodha. The political legacy was carried by Syed Nazar Hussain hamdani, who was elected a member of Provence Assembly of Punjab (Naib-Nazim).Ch Allah Bukhsh tula and Ch Muhammad Yar maken are also slected many time as a members of union. Ch Mukhtar Maken(No dar)is sporter of PML(N)Group in this village. Syed zahoor hamdani has lead PML(Q)Group.

[change] Uras Mubarak

An Uras has been carrying out on 25 March of every year in the memory of (Late) syed pir Hashim Darya Hamdani. Many followers are came from different cities and villages in Pakistan. Syed Zawar Shah hamdani has organize all activities like Nat khani, Qawali etc... Syed Haji Fakhar Sibtain Hamdani, Syed Noor-e-Saqlain Hamdani and Syed Mujtaba Haider Hamdani are nonvocational there activities.

Punjabi is the main language of the people. Urdu is also spoken.

[change] Athletic competition

Frequently two types of sports competition are played in this rural community, Volley ball and cricket. Cricket competition is conducted every year in the memory of Zulfiqar maken Shaheed and Abdul Latif (Late) in May to July of every year. Ch Shoukat Zia Maken, Ch Azhar Hussain maken, Ch Qasim shahzad maken, Syed Mohsin Raza Hamdani are the producers of these tournaments.

Many welfare groups are functioning in this community; they performed and organize any time any type of work for best perfection of this village like construction / repair of Mosque, Madras’s, Infrastructure, street.
