University of Denver is a private university in Denver, Colorado. The university has about 11,644 students. It was founded in 1864. The current chancellor of the university is Robert Coombe.

Sports [change]

The athletics teams of the university are called the Pioneers. They have 17 varsity teams, most of which compete in the Western Athletic Conference. In July 2013, the Pioneers will move most of their sports teams to The Summit League.

Some Pioneers teams play in other conferences. The men's ice hockey team plays in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association; in July 2013, it will join the new National Collegiate Hockey Conference. The women's lacrosse team plays in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF). The men's soccer team also played in the MPSF through the 2012 season, but will join most of the school's sports in The Summit League in 2013. The skiing team, made up of both men and women, competes in the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association. The men's lacrosse team plays in the ECAC Lacrosse League.
