Welcome Back

While I've never interacted with you, I saw you back in 2021. Since you're unblocked, welcome back. RiggedMint 15:54, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Taxonomy/Neopilinidae

Many will feel we're getting way ahead of ourselves with this! Macdonald-ross (talk) 13:37, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Macdonald-ross - It’s because when I copy over the info box, they use the templates so if I don’t copy them over it causes an error on the infoboxes. It’s the entire autotaxon thing. Most of them have linked to articles we already have so to me it’s a good thing to have the links and not red ones. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 13:41, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Macdonald-ross If you look at Template:Taxonomy/Monoplacophora it’s mostly blue links. We have the articles but we didn’t have the boxes for them to link to the families. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 13:43, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

COP 16

Hello, could you simplify this article into English and check the spelling and writing? https://simple.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/COP16 --190.219.223.169 (talk) 05:47, 22 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No and stop asking editors or you will be blocked. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 05:55, 22 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

VIP reports

There's no need to mark requests as done when they've already been replied to. We don't necessarily use the "done" template on VIP. -- Auntof6 (talk) 19:13, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Auntof6 I was doing it to make it easy for others to see it was completed. I won’t do it again. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 19:21, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Request

Kindly do not post on my talk page again other than required messages. Ravensfire (talk) 19:29, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

@Ravensfire Request accepted. I posted very nicely what was an attack on an editor which you shut down and archived it. So I then issued you a formal warning in which you reverted and attacked me in the edit summary. I will post warnings going forward instead of friendly feedback since you do not accept that and as they mount up the closer you will be to being block for uncivilized behavior towards other editors. I have an admins backing on this (as you put it) “Dispute” and the fact you refused to talk about it. Since you reverted the warning, you acknowledged the warning existed. Going forward, do not post on my page either. ----
The above discussion is preserved as an archive. Please do not change it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page, such as the current discussion page. No more changes should be made to this discussion.

Layers of the Mind

Thanks for your contribution, But I like to say I saw that you have removed the "Layers of the Mind" from Depth psychology. I think here we have a bit of personal taste. I personally would prefer to keep the removed part. Since this is not only about a specific subject, but also the simplicity of the language. اربابی دوم (talk) 12:41, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@اربابی دوم This was not me. The person who did that is an admin here by the name of @Macdonald-ross who I have now pinged for courtesy for you. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 12:48, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@PotsdamLamb
I apologize for my mistake. Should I send another message to User:Macdonald-ross or does he already know my point of view? اربابی دوم (talk) 13:07, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@اربابی دوم I don’t see a need to as he is pinged on here. However, you do need to remember we use simple English here, so we break down various words to match with the basic English language. In my opinion, what he did fits within the simplicity of English and makes it easier for our readers who have a basic or under basic understanding. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 13:17, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@PotsdamLamb
With all due respect I should say the removed party does not conflict with the simplicity of the language or the clarity of the subject. As for the politics of "simple English", after all that has been said: "simplicity does not necessarily mean brevity". But I understand that admin User:Macdonald-ross is more experienced. اربابی دوم (talk) 13:31, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@اربابی دوم That’s fine. I also just removed the colon punctuation (:) from the headers. We do not (and neither does en wiki) use punctuation in headers. Just a note for you on formatting. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 13:45, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@PotsdamLamb
Although I personally think this case is a matter of taste and not a fixed rule, I will try to follow the tradition you practice here. By the way, I would appreciate it if you read the first version on User:اربابی دوم/sandbox and see that the section "Understanding depth psychology" is an introduction and is connected to "Layers of the Mind". اربابی دوم (talk) 14:02, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The punctuation part is part of the WP:MOS. It is not a tradition or personal taste. It is how English is written and headers do not get colons in them. Just like we don’t bold headers, add accent marks to headers, etc. Please read our Manual of Style. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 14:12, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the explanation. I want to read the "Manual of Style" again, even though it is written right at the top: "It is a good idea to follow it, but it is not policy." اربابی دوم (talk) 14:24, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@اربابی دوم While that is correct it will cause a lot of extra work for those of us who look at new changes and articles to spend time to fix them. This helps keep simple uniform and looking professional. If every editor formatted an article how they wanted to, Wikipedia would have zero credibility. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 14:30, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think I understand and will do my best to follow uniformity. اربابی دوم (talk) 14:34, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Incendiary terms in wartime

Greetings, PotsdamLamb! I've only recently resumed helping out at the Simple English Wikipedia (as my routine patrolling is dedicated to the YOruba WP and the LADino WP besides languages I actually speak), and I've long noted you're a major, valued contributor there. I'm not keen on engaging in edit disputes, but certain topics like the Nakba are hard to ignore. Full disclosure: I'm a USA-born naturalized Israeli currently self-displaced from my home 5 km from the Lebanese border controlleld by Hezbollah and under such frequent rocket fire with zero advance notice - yet in my volunteer Hebrew-English translations I try to be scrupulous in terminology.

The Anglophone press lately includes some POV matter, of omission as well as commission, which I believe contributes to the pro-Palestinian opinion-forming that have lead to smearing Israel and Jews as modern Nazis. One recent example: Senior NYT journalist Nicholas Kristof posted an opinion piece, What can we say to the children of Gaza? (Feb. 3, 2024 in case the link doesn't work). Nowhere do the words "Hamas" or "tunnels" appear. Shall we tell tens of thousands of women and children in Gaza, and interested NYT readers, what Hamas has done with the money that was supposed to provide for them? Where the fighters are presumed hiding out (with food and water) leaving their population to starve and be bombed to die under rubble?

I'll follow through with your advisement about the language for the Nakba page in Simple English, but kindly understand that I can't be party to singling out Israel to be disproportionately demonized when so many, many other atrocities are committed around the world. Perhaps the correct action here is to make sure all properly documented instances of ethnic cleansing are duly noted and categorized in WP projects for the greater good of our readers. Thank you for your attention! -- Deborahjay (talk) 14:46, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Deborahjay I want to point out this should have continued on your talk page where we were discussing it for ease of readership. I am simply pointing out that the term has long been used and documented in numerous atrocious times in history. As I stated on your page references were included for both sides of what historians interpreted as to whether it was an ethnic cleanse or not. Remember, as an editor, our responsibility is to show the references for all sides, especially on hot topics such as this one. You cannot be singled out for presenting them as the language proposed is very basic in that historians debate whether it was an ethnic cleansing. Some cases are clearcut (Nazi Germany under Hitler). Some are not. So our responsibility as editors is to provide both views (as we have the references in support of both sides). Your statement “can't be party” is within your rights as a person, but as an editor we cannot insert those feelings (aka POVs) into articles, however, since we have the references for the other side, we cannot remove them either as that would show bias on the part of the editor. As far as the categories, we have many, they can be tagged in many even if they are not in agreement as this article has that disagreement between it. We do not need a category on ethnic cleansing and I think the cats it is in are fine and we would not be doing any disservice to the readers by creating additional categories that may confuse them. This is simply about the content of the article.
For the second paragraph, that is a whole other article and a whole other ballgame in my book. That can be addressed on that article which I gave made no comments on or even read (if it exists). I am a firm believer and I’m sure many of us are that opinion pieces are not accepted as a reference on Wikipedia as they cause a pov and lots of other issues which will cause an edit war considering the current climate there and the political climate we have here in the US.
Also to note, there is no “edit dispute” going on, however, there is a discussion on what is the correct way to go forward with the wording. This is what wiki is built on. Editors coming together to discuss content and present it in the correct manner and bring neutral in the presentation of the articles.
On a personal note, I am sorry to read about your situation there. I do not believe anywhere is safe anymore. For you, if you wish, you are more than welcome to email me through the system if you need to vent or have any questions about resources available to you as I have a wealth of information. That is entirely up to you. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 15:14, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Citation Bot

Are you sure that you are requesting "Simple"? Are you using the website or the direct url option (which needs to include &wiki_base=simple since the default is en). AManWithNoPlan (talk) 16:34, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I can’t get past authentication. I click on the use citation bot and it requires me to authenticate and then says I’m blocked. When I use the website I put in the title and select simple and get the same message. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 16:52, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@AManWithNoPlan Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 16:53, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What is the URL that you are clicking on to start this process? Not the meta wiki final url. AManWithNoPlan (talk) 17:14, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@AManWithNoPlan The bot I click on is mentioned with the “suggested by (usually you)” link. I tried the website last night and I believe it is linked from your page and I selected simple at the bottom and clicked the button and got the same message. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 17:16, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Here is the web link https://citations.toolforge.org/ Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 17:18, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And this is the other one where I also get blocked https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:OAuth/authorize&oauth_token=b06ee0ae7877f5d66daca3420050f8b1&oauth_consumer_key=ea31bc18a6b8133fc0f29cf175d13a3a Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 17:19, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have added more logging and error printing. AManWithNoPlan (talk) 19:49, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@AManWithNoPlan Using the website, when I try to authenticate and I used the parameters of Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween and I select simple.wikipedia.org, this is the message that comes up when I click process and then try to authenticate:
!User is either invalid or blocked according to https://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=query&usprop=blockinfo&format=json&list=users&ususers=PotsdamLamb Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 19:55, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I See the problem. When you come back, the information about which wiki you prefer is lost. It is normal to lose most things, but that one is a problem. I will look for a solution. AManWithNoPlan (talk) 20:05, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@AManWithNoPlan Thanks. Does it even need to authenticate a user because it wouldn't be allowed to post as a blocked user or is that what it is checking for? What about getting approval to put a modified version of the bot here on simple and the modification would be to see if we are blocked on here and not using en wiki for the authentication? It has been running for so long, I do not think it would face any troubles in a quick approval process. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 20:12, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Blocked users have used the bot to bother people ("he look, I used the bot right after your edit, he, he ,he"), so only real users can use it these days. Please try again. I have made a change, but you might have to try up to three times. AManWithNoPlan (talk) 20:23, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@AManWithNoPlan I can verify I can use the web-based version. What I cannot do is use the bot. I do not have the citation expander button even though in gadgets it is selected. Is there a direct link I can use that will allow me to use the bot and not the website on toolforge? Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 20:51, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have tossed the contents of common.js file (such as https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:PotsdamLamb/common.js) into https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:AManWithNoPlan/sandbox3 and I think that should work for you on simple. AManWithNoPlan (talk) 21:07, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@AManWithNoPlan I copied it over to the page you stated and I see the button, however, when I click on it:
Error: Citations request failed

Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 21:22, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
"Error: Citations request failed" depending upon user preferences, the gadget does not always play nice with "skins". Do you get an error when clicking the whole page button on the left? AManWithNoPlan (talk) 21:39, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@AManWithNoPlan I am using the monobook skin, as I always have. If I click the citation expander (either fast or slow) it works and takes me off the page to display the results. It is when I click on the button at the bottom in edit mode the submit display I get the error. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 21:43, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
" It is when I click on the button at the bottom in edit mode the submit display I get the error." that button is super finicky, and it does not work with some users setups. I do remember the exact details, but it conflicts with several things include wikEd. AManWithNoPlan (talk) 23:21, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@AManWithNoPlan Both wikEd versions or one of the versions? Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 02:52, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
absolutely no idea. AManWithNoPlan (talk) 11:59, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@AManWithNoPlan funny thing is it works in articles with no citation error. One page I got that error on had a ref>[url…]]</ on it. I cleaned that up and then it worked. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 23:40, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The gadget has no way to report errors, so it just dies. The non-gadget version will report errors. AManWithNoPlan (talk) 03:27, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@AManWithNoPlan Awesome. Thanks for the info and all of your help. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 04:07, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Rara Lie @Auntof6 - Unfortunately your opinion is not the only thing that matters. He is not notable per established rules to be included on any wikipedia. This is why we have rules so that we do not get pages that do not belong here. I know this is not what you want to hear, but it is the truth. About Rollback

Hey @PotsdamLamb, did somebody gave me rollback? I think it has suddenly appeared and I never asked for it🤔 -- 💌Ayesha46 (talk) 09:29, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Ayesha46 It does not appear you are in the group. Everyone has a rollback option. Those of us in the roll backers group have additional rollback links we can click to handle vandals. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 09:31, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
oh, I think I saw it just today otherwise I used to click Undo but now I'm seeing Rollback maybe I clicked some setting yesterday which was previously off I don't remember, anyways Thanks and sry to bother you -- 💌Ayesha46 (talk) 09:32, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Ayesha46 No worries. I am working on the talk pages and merges. Please do not make any edits to them as you are causing an edit conflict. I would appreciate it. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 09:37, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
just did that so the voting section remains different and easy to open instead of scrolling whole discussion, but fine now -- 💌Ayesha46 (talk) 09:38, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Ayesha46 You will see a blue link that says "Rollback" on it. All users get that one. I think you will see something like undo as well. With rollback you get additional links so you do not have to fill in certain fields. It is a one click rollback basically for vandalism. Yes I fixed it, sometimes the tool is not nice, but I can manually do it too, which is what I did. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 09:40, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
well I'm seeing in red blue and green 3 options "[rollback (AGF)] || [rollback] || [rollback (VANDAL)]" , Thanks -- 💌Ayesha46 (talk) 11:12, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
See en:WP:Rollback as that can provide a better explanation for you. Hope that helps. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 11:14, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Ayesha46: Those 3 links are from Twinkle. Anyone can use them, as long as they are autoconfirmed. The rollback right is slightly different and gives you another link. Kk.urban (talk) 20:07, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Pots! I noticed that you changed the redirect page Qazaq language to a disambiguation page. "Qazaq language" specifically refers to the Kazakh language only and not any other topic. I saw the email you sent to the admins' mailing list and to me directly. I don't see why those needed to be handled by email. Please handle things on-wiki as much as possible. Sandip Pathak

@Sandeep Pathak Already notable Artist please check - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandeep_Pathak_(actor) Vaishustamhane (talk) 10:43, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Vaishustamhane I have marked it for quick deletion, as you will notice on your talk page. He is not notable enough to be included on this wikipedia. If I remember correctly, we have discussed the requirements before as to notability for actors. This actor is not in that realm. We have warned you multiple times of various issues with your editing and creating new articles. Continuation will result in a request for a block on your account. We have been trying to work with you, but you continually push the envelope on this. You have also been asked to stop creating articles like this, and again, you continue to do so. In relation to your check en wiki, it is also marked as not-notable. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 10:45, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Warnings users

Hi, PDL. Just a note about user warnings: after a user has received a last/final warning, they do not get an "only" warning. Level 4im warnings are not intended to be the next level after level 4. They are intended to be the only warning given in extreme cases, such as threats of violence, blantant racism, etc. -- Auntof6 (talk) 14:41, 9 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Auntof6 It was posted before twinkle showed me they had a final warning. I forgot to remove it. Apologies. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 16:16, 9 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Kk.urban I looked at the results that person is not even mentioned in the source. It comes up Biden and uncontested on the AP reference, which is correct. That editor listed incorrect information on a BLP. So yes, it is vandalism. They can update what is true but not put non-factual information into the article. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 17:52, 9 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Jason Palmer isn't mentioned on the AP reference (it just says 3 delegates for "others"), but he is mentioned on this reference [16] which they cited (with 3 delegates). Kk.urban (talk) 18:02, 9 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Kk.urban You mean the one from someone’s blog? If the editor wants to go that route they can but they need to list the other 3 and not just him. We don’t pick and choose who goes on it. I know the .03% will not catch up to Biden. That’s .01% for each one. If you want to revert it, feel free, but make sure the blp is correct, please? Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 18:14, 9 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure if it's a blog. It looks like Jason Palmer is the only person other than Biden who got any delegates. This was matching the enwiki infobox. Or we could list the three candidates with the most votes (Biden, Marianne Williamson, and Dean Phillips), or just Biden. Kk.urban (talk) 18:17, 9 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Kk.urban My opinion of leaving it at just President Biden, as he is the frontrunner by a long shot. We do not have to match enwiki. 85.7% for Biden and .01% for Jason. It’s a given. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 18:33, 9 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Template:(Dis)estCatUSstateCentury

I noticed an issue with {{(Dis)estCatUSstateCentury}}. An example where it is used is Category:20th-century establishments in Texas. The template is the same on simplewiki and enwiki. However, on enwiki, it puts the category in Category:20th century in Texas, but on simplewiki, it doesn't. Do you know why? Kk.urban (talk) 18:14, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Kk.urban Do you have an example page I can look at? Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 18:18, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You can compare Category:20th-century establishments in Texas with en:Category:20th-century establishments in Texas. They have the same text but different output. Kk.urban (talk) 18:25, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Kk.urban Go ahead and look at what you were seeing and let me know. If it is not what you are expecting, give me a specific example please. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 19:12, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's still the same issue. Category:20th-century establishments in Texas isn't in Category:20th century in Texas, like it should be. Kk.urban (talk) 19:15, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Kk.urban I think I found the error. It is going to take some time to fix it. I will let you know when I am done. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 19:39, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Kk.urban I asked Djsasso to take a look when he has some time. What I thought was an error is not. I did put the category in manually, though, for the time being. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 20:03, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please consider canceling the blanking here. It makes the talk page invisible at special:WhatLinksHere, making SPIs harder. MathXplore (talk) 07:04, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@MathXplore Gotcha. I’m working on some back end things that will make it easier. It will be similar to en wiki where they will have a category with all the user names and puppet master in it. I’ll not blank any for now. What would help me is if you are able to verify who the puppet is, I’ll be able to do it faster. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 08:22, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Are you sure you added the right categories to here? MathXplore (talk) 11:17, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No the cats on the top aren’t right. I’m debating do you think it should just be a maintenance cat? It’s only going to hold templates so it may be template category if we have that one. I’m on mobile so I can’t get to them right now but if you want to hit-cat them and what not that’s fine with me. I’m almost done with the requested list of templates while listening to Meet the Blacks. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 11:27, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think a template category would be enough. MathXplore (talk) 11:30, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

About the recent changes Wikipedia:Requests for permissions

I think the removal of the transwiki importer section should be re-discussed. They exist at Special:ListGroupRights, which suggests the possibility of future use. In addition, I think a section heading for IPBE would be needed. What would you think about this? MathXplore (talk) 04:54, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@MathXplore If you look at the top of the page where it states the rights, it states it is not used on this wiki. It also has not been granted in over 10 years I believe last time I checked (it could be a little sooner or a little later). That’s why I removed it so it’s simple and no one posts to it asking, just to get denied. It’s a right only admins have. Yes for IPBE I will add that. I meant to but I was doing too much at once. The wikis all show the same rights groups as it’s through the media wiki software. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 05:00, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If my understanding is correct, IPs are not accounts, and global locks are different from global IP blocks. Global locks are indefinite (m:Global locks), global IP blocks are temporary (m:Global blocks). Including IP user pages to Category:Locked global accounts may not comply with their technical definition. For the tagged IPs, I thought Category:Open proxies blocked on Wikipedia would be enough. Please let me know if there is any misunderstanding on my side. Thank you for your attention. MathXplore (talk) 06:22, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@MathXplore Typically global locks can applied to any IPs. Some of the templates we have are locked with a category and I can’t change the category. Two were just removed from global locks (I added them by mistake). I can manually add them to the cat you mentioned (and if you come across any, please feel free to fix them - just note some are hard coded). RfD nomination of Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/IPExempt

An editor has requested deletion of Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/IPExempt, a page you created. We appreciate your changes, but the nominator doesn't believe that the page meets Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Please comment on the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2024/Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/IPExempt and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also change the page during the discussion to address the nominator's concerns. But you should not remove the requests for deletion template from the top of the page; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you very much. --Ferien (talk) 17:46, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@MathXplore Yeah I’m ok with that. I just copied the wording from the other ubox which is why it said an and not an. @Auntof6 To say what you just stated to me, It's common sense... If the user page is already blank for a glocked or blocked user, why nominate for QD? Creating templates

Hi, PDL. Please slow down on creating so many templates. Templates should be created only if something is actually using them. If you see a template listed at Special:WantedTemplates, that doesn't mean we actually need it. Many times, templates show up there because they're listed in the "See also" or "Related pages" section of a template doc page -- we don't need to create them if that's the only place they're linked.

I seem to remember that you were doing a lot of template creation before you were blocked, and we had to do a lot of cleanup of those. Please do research before creating templates and make sure they're really needed.

Also, please consider asking to have the templates imported instead of creating them new here. That way, we'd have access to the history in case we need to consult someone who worked on the template.

Thanks. -- Auntof6 (talk) 17:22, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Auntof6 I am looking at what is linking to them and creating them if they are required by an article to eliminate the giant red lettering saying it cannot be found. The ones I have run into issues with, I have made Eptalon aware of so he can assist. I am not importing any that are userboxes or if they are not used, like the colours one which I posted on ST (see here) because it makes no sense to me and I can see it is not a big deal, however, other templates in use are requiring them work properly. I am doing the attribution. For larger ones that require embedded templates to work, I am requesting they be imported via email to admins who know the code and can possibly fix them, as I am not familiar with JSON and some are coming up with that error. I am not doing anything wrong. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 17:27, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't looked at all the ones you created, but here are some that don't appear to be used outside of lists, the doc of other templates, or similar example use:
No article appears to be using these. In the case of the user templates, no user page appears to be using them. If a template isn't actually being used for its intended purpose, we don't need it. So again, please make sure a template is actually being used, not just linked to, before creating it. -- Auntof6 (talk) 17:44, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Auntof6 Can you please follow normal discussion etiquette and post new posts at the bottom so I do not have to search for it? I would appreciate it. As far as these go, templates were in place, but these were missing from them, which is why I made them. One example is Special:Diff/8534582 where you imported it; however, you did not bring Template:User cycled over with it, causing red links. I am filling in the red links to complete the template series. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 17:50, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
One of the points I am trying to make is that we don't need to create templates just to do something like complete a series. Please stop doing that. Red links in lists, including lists of related templates, are acceptable.
I am following normal discussion processes by indenting my replies under the post I am replying to. -- Auntof6 (talk) 18:00, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Auntof6 It is not completing a series; it is adding them to a template that is calling it inside of itself. One good example is is Infobox settlement which calls other infoboxes inside of it (either automatically or manually). I am not adding them for the sake of it. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 18:03, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
One more note: another place templates can be linked is places like User:Irtapil/List of engagements TABLES and other user lists of templates. Templates listed on pages like that also usually don't need to be created. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Auntof6 (talkcontribs) 17:23, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Auntof6 I understand, and I am not importing those either. Only if an article requires it. Since it is in the user space, I am not touching it. I am compiling a list as I go of those within user space that need to be edited to remove them from the cat. Remember all of the advice you gave me in my importer request? I am following that (however, some templates cannot be simplified), and those using the harder ones should not be touching them, and 99% of them are coming from en wiki copy/paste that editors are doing that we do not have. Without the right, I have to do the attribution manually, which I am doing, by stating the current version on en wiki at this time and date. Most of the templates en wiki has do not get updated that often so by going to the link 99% of the time you will land on the current version I imported. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 17:32, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Auntof6 Anything "country data" should be pulled over, whether we have a current article or not, as the information it contains completes the article, removing any red links for templates. For these types, we do not necessarily need an article pointing to them, and there is no policy against them. This appears to be another case of what administrators want, as they do not want to have them; however, they are useful to have and could be used today, in a week, or in a year, and will not need to be moved at a later time. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 17:54, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We don't need to remove red links in the doc pages of templates. We do not need to create country data templates, or any other templates, if they aren't going to be used. If they are needed in the future, they can be created then. -- Auntof6 (talk) 18:01, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Auntof6 This does not have anything to do with red links. It is calling the templates (usually using a see also template that can be used instead) or needs the Template:Xxfooter in it to render properly. Last night/this morning, I created some lists so I could work on articles as well. So if you are saying I did that to eliminate red links in a template, then you are mistaken. It is adding to the encyclopedia. I am working on getting some pages under my belt other than just templates and backend work. Please point to a policy that says I cannot create templates that are not used. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 18:06, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am not saying you created lists to justify creating pages. Lists of things you want to work on are fine, as long as the fact that something is linked in that kind of list is not the only reason a page gets created.
Not everything is governed by policy. It's common sense not to create things that aren't needed. -- Auntof6 (talk) 19:25, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Auntof6 Gotcha. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 19:29, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Following your disregarding this warning and continuing to archive things on Wikipedia:Deletion review, I noticed you also archived several things, including a topic from two weeks ago, from Talk:Main Page. At this point, the only option I'm left with is to prohibit you from archiving discussions anywhere on this project, be it manually or with the script you're using. You don't seem to understand things are left up and visible for a purpose and they should NOT be immediately archived on completion of the topic. Before you say, "but Op! Other people are doing it too! I'm the only one getting in trouble!" Please know I've reviewed the history of Talk:Main Page and you are the only non-sysop in the last year (365 days) that has attempted to archive threads and the ONLY user to archive anything posted in the last 14 days and commented on in the last 7. If you had notifications disabled for talk page messages, that's something you assume responsibility for not knowing due to failure to check your talk page regularly. The tech news section seems to have eaten all of the sections below it. Do you have any idea why this is happening? I can't figure it out. QuicoleJR (talk) 17:15, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@QuicoleJR What do you mean by “eaten?” Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 17:19, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's hard to explain. Look at the page on the mobile version of the site. QuicoleJR (talk) 17:22, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's because there are two opening tags:
<section begin="technews-2024-W13"/><div class="plainlinks">
and no closing tags. Kk.urban (talk) 17:29, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Template:Infobox law enforcement agency/main

Apologies for the late response. Do you have the title of the page that you ran a preview on? I took a quick look for now and couldn't find any obvious issue in the template, so I would like to try reproducing the issue. Chenzw  Talk  03:31, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Chenzw If you try to add unsworn 2 or 3 it doesn’t take on the page. You can use New York Police Department as a test. If you add the parameter for unsworn2 (or whatever I made it) and put in Crossing Guard, it won’t appear on the page. Nor will the total of them say 15,000. April 2024

It looks like you are in an change war judging from the reverts you have made on Mechanical advantage. Take care, because the three-revert rule does not let users make more than three reverts on a single page in a single day. Any user may still be blocked for being involved in a change war and disruption, even if they have not broken the three-revert rule. When you disagree with another user, you should first try to talk about changes in order to work together to improve Wikipedia and reach consensus. If you continue to disrupt the page, you may be blocked from changing Wikipedia.

Please remember that this applies to you just as it applies to the IP. I'm not saying I disagree with your changes, but these things do need to be fairly discussed.
Kk.urban (talk) 21:29, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It was discussed on the talk page and in the edits; I then turned it to vandalism as I already reverted the same changes 2x. One I just fixed, then they went and reverted all the way back. Remember vandalism reverts do not count as part of the edit war criteria and my last one was under vandalism. Also, please do not template me. I do not template the regulars and I would request the same back. Thanks and edit well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 21:35, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I won't template you in the future. But it doesn't become vandalism just because you already reverted the same edits before. Kk.urban (talk) 21:40, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
When it has been explained and they have been rolled back AGF and continue to undue the rollback and maintain the same argument that does not apply, it does turn into disruption, however, due to how our templates and warnings are, we do not have one at that level for disruption only. So I have to default to vandalism. Same thing admins are aware of and they know it needs to be changed, but that discussion stalled years ago. Thanks and edit well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 21:42, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Kk.urban BTW, looking at this IPs comments on talk pages and the ending statement (besides changing others comments) they are the same person who was trying to route all of the paintings for QD as non-notable and furniture for the same reason. Created a mass amount of redirects under a different IP in Sweden/Norway for days and could never answer why.  Looks like a duck to me to me! Thanks and edit well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 22:02, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Could you link me to the discussion you both had about this? Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 22:09, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Lee Vilenski Remember these final words? Talk:Center Lake Como Look at the IP ending comment before KK comments. Thanks and edit well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 22:13, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's not really the point. If you think someone is a sockpuppet/LTA, that's when you take that to the appropriate helpdesk. It's not really suitable to revert as vandalism. I don't really know why you'd get into an edit war with someone regarding not citing maths equations (which, btw, would be something that should still be done), and even then, it wasn't even that which they were putting the CN tag on.
Just because someone reverts your revert, that's not vandalism. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 22:17, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Lee Vilenski I get that but they were asking for a source on 2 particular points which are proven in the formula and are built into it for years. There is no need for a source on 2 small sections of figuring something out when it’s written as such. It’s like asking for a source on 2 times 2 equals 4 (source?). It’s the way it’s been written since it was developed and we can’t do a source on it. I explained it to them and yet they kept reverting it. They did one change which I agreed with then they changed it again. As far as an LTA I can’t pin point who they are so I can’t put it up as one, especially since the IP keeps changing. They are staying within those two countries so they may live close to or travel over the border. I’ve already been told they can’t comment on an IP on check-user and to not post it there and regular admins do not have access to that info so it would be a cu on the vip board, which I still have nothing to compare it to other than the comments. We don’t do like en wiki does and categorize LTAs with their habits either. Thanks and edit well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 22:33, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Pyramids FC TV (2nd nomination)

Hi PotsdamLamb, Just a heads up I've nominated Pyramids FC TV for you at Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2024/Pyramids FC TV (2nd nomination) - You're more than welcome to replace the nomination reason :), Many thanks, Warm Regards, –Davey2010Talk 12:50, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Davey2010 Thanks, but what I didn't realize is it was just up at RfD and was closed on March 28 so it should have had the tag on the talk page, which is didn't. I did make a comment at the RfD to just close it out and make sure the admins post on the talk page like they are supposed to. I appreciate it. Are you referring to Encapsulated_PostScript? If so, it needs to have the information on it before it is on the main space so it does not get a QD tag on it. If you are able to simplify it, then I see no reason why. You can also look at w:Encapsulated_PostScript for more information in English which could be more beneficial as it is a longer article.

BRD

I should backtrack and say that actually en:WP:BRD is not mandatory. However, no user can tell another user not to revert their edits, per the wiki process. Your comment "Do not revert any of my edits." is not proper, because nobody is allowed to tell another user that. You can request this, but other users are free to do it anyway. I think it's impolite of them to tell you not to post on their talk page, but they have the right to remove your posts if they wish. It just means that they can't claim they haven't read them. Kk.urban (talk) 17:26, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Kk.urban As I just told Lee, I attempted talk to inform them I was working on it. They caused a change conflict, they did not revert it as good faith they just rolled it back. I had to redo my changes. Then they wiped it from their page. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 17:28, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Be aware of en:WP:BOOMERANG. This is probably something better to just let go and avoid interacting with that user in the future. Kk.urban (talk) 17:31, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Kk.urban - You are right. Not necessarily about boomerang, as I know I am correct in them restoring a bad edit when instead they should have fixed it, like I was doing when the change conflict occurred and I had to start all over. I cannot deal with childish behavior and this user has always had issues with things. But anywho, I am off to start working on that nav box. Thanks for taking the time to work with me. Much appreciated. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 17:37, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Requests for rights such as rollback

Please do not comment the way you did on requests for rollback. It is too easy for the person requesting to take non-admin comments as decisions, even if you make it clear that you are not an admin and can't make the decision. It might be appropriate if you rephrase it so that you are addressing the admins instead of the user, but really it's not necessary and can be disruptive. Thanks. -- Auntof6 (talk) 20:31, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Auntof6 Please point out where you have accused others of being disruptive for making comments on other “admin only things” or I’m going to consider you being disruptive by once again targeting me for doing the same things other people have said. It was very clear I’m not an admin and was so stated as such. So again, stop targeting me. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 20:34, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am not going to play whataboutism, or engage in tu quoque. I am not targeting you. If I were, I would be looking at all of your edits, which I am not doing. I saw your comment because I watch the requests for rights pages.
I am telling you that no matter how clear you think you have stated that you are not an admin, a person requesting rights may think that you can determine whether they get the rights. That was apparent in this case because the person accepted your word that they would not get them and removed their request. I suggested a way to give input that would be clearer -- phrasing your comments as giving input to the admins instead of responding to the request -- but even that isn't necessary. -- Auntof6 (talk) 21:04, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Auntof6 That individual takes everything that someone says as the law of the land. That is who they are. I cannot be held accountable for their decision(s) and what they decide to do with comments made to them or about them. If they decided, based on my comment, to withdraw their request, then that is their right. They reverted and withdrew based on my comment (which in reality they probably wouldn’t have gotten anyways and besides the point). But I guess the bigger question is, if they withdrew based on my comment then why would you put it back up if they cleared it? Duplicated templates

Hello PDL! I noticed that you created a few duplicate templates: Template:Country data Democratic Front, Template:Country data DFLP, and Template:Country data al-Jabha al-Dīmūqrāṭiyya. I've taken the liberty of moving Template:Country data DFLP to its unabbreviated form, Template:Country data Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, per EnWiki. Why not redirect the other duplicated templates to this? – Cyber.Eyes2005Talk 05:17, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I created then based on how en wiki has them. On the main template doc it calls the shortened version to produce it on the doc. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 05:18, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And you also have to remember some pages call the old name so they need a redirect to the new (er) (ish) template. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 05:19, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

They'll function the same way. – Cyber.Eyes2005Talk 05:31, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Overly detailed

I think the template en:Template:Overly detailed would be really helpful here. Simple articles are supposed to be shorter than English wikipedia articles. Most uses here are from me, but some are not from me. Do you think it would be good? Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (please tag me) 04:38, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Immanuelle I would have to say no. We have our complex template and we have our not in simple English template. We do not have that many articles that would meet that criteria as most of our articles are stubs that need to be expanded. If you come across an article that you think meets the criteria for this you are more than welcome to reduce it down to simple English which will remove most of what would be considered “overly detailed.” Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 06:32, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

I have no right to blame you for deleting the article I created. You probably know which article i am talking about. But I didn't understand something. Finally, you sent me warnings not to urge anyone to vote there. If you look at my activity on Azwiki, you will see that I am a fairly experienced user and have invited someone to vote on that discussion? can you say? If I had invited, there would have been voices anyway. I don't know why you sent me such a warning, but believe me, it wasn't necessary. I have not broken any rules. I was sure that the article I wrote was also encyclopedic. I plan to work on the article and submit it back to enwiki, but I need to finish my other articles first. someone has embarrassed herself around this discussion in her local area but that person is not me. So if you want to block me innocently, you can. I just want you to know that I am not a scammer, liar or spammer. my activity is visible. I repeat, it is not mine to spam or misrepresent anything. thank you.Futurolog21 (talk) 11:30, 13 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Futurolog21 I am not an admin so I cannot block you nor delete any pages. I asked the admins to review your actions. Your activity logs show you posted on other projects about the RfD and even someone who never edited here from another project, of whom you posted on their talk page about the article being deleted, expressed their opinion to keep the article. @PotsdamLamb Enjoy!!!! BigKrow (talk) 00:29, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@BigKrow Thanks for sharing. With those types of articles, there are some things you can copy over from the ENWP version to help fill them out.
1. The Speciesbox
2. Attach it to wikidata (I have already done that for you, as I have a script that does it automatically for me)
3. Under your last heading add the following (I recommend copy and paste from the ENWP version):
4. Add the taxonbar template at the bottom {{taxonbar}}
5. Add the {{authority control}} template
Numbers 3, 4, and 5 will not work until an article is attached to wikidata. If you need any other advice let me know. Try to put as much content in as you can using the simple english. You can always use the various word lists we have at Basic English word list and you can follow the Wikipedia:Guide to layout to help you organize the article into the proper sections.
Also, do not forget to add categories to the article as well. Those I do not work in, but a search at Special:Categories should help you. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 00:39, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
