Rafterman vandalism[change source]

At first, I wanted to believe his "this was just a test" bit, but seeing the same vandalism at George W. Bush, John Kerry and at Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, I gave him a 24-hour block. I decided to allow him to continue editing here since most of his edits were fine. However, if he messes around one more time, put another note on my talk page, and I'll take care of him. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 06:15, 7 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Privacy policy[change source]

Thanks for telling me about that page. There was no other edits because there was nothing there before. For now, I put the main language but am working on simplifying it. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 21:38, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism again[change source]

Sorry for taking so long to respond. He's been blocked for now and usually, people don't keep messing around too much. Also, don't forget to sign your name on talk pages. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 00:57, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

disamb/cat[change source]

I see--I didn't think to check its history. I suspect it was removed because none of the related work you did was performed (putting an explanation and cat on the cat page, etc.) It's not completely automatic, in that the articles won't show up on the cat page until they are edited (that was really what I was doing/experimenting with when I edited boil, as I suspected that, but wasn't sure). Sometimes if I'm unsure about something I check how it's done on EN--I don't think we should try and clone EN, and some things there wouldn't be appropriate here, but I think it can be a useful guide at times. Oh well, all's well that ends well. 24.17.48.241 19:24, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Having a disambig category adds no value, and has a cost in server processing. Please don't add it back. -- Netoholic @ 07:47, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Userbox[change source]

Nice work on that userbox template, it's on my page! Archer7 17:47, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I sent you a test email. Did you receive it? If not, let me know. If you did, please reply to the email. -- Netoholic @ 16:41, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator[change source]

I'm happy to point out that, consensus being reached on Wikipedia:Administrators, you are now an admin. Make sure to review all the current policies. If you intend to use the "Block user" function, you must keep your email address current and check it often. The big thing to remember is not to use your abilities in any conflicts (editing or otherwise) that you're directly involved. Other than that, I'd suggest starting out slowly, and feel free to contact me or another admin if you have any other questions or just need a second opinion. Try to keep to the core values of Simple:, and remember that we aren't just a copy of en: Wikipedia. -- Netoholic @ 19:54, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations! Archer7 17:48, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

semi-protection[change source]

Semi-protection has been enabled on Simple:. I've placed a basic policy for it's use on on Wikipedia:Protection policy. If you use it, please document the page and reason on Wikipedia:Protected page. -- Netoholic @ 20:37, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Community Portal help[change source]

On my new community portal page User:Archer7/Community_portal I want to add a coloured box around this week's topic, and it's one of the few things I haven't picked up yet. I saw you doing it on Template:Update today, how do you do it? Thanks, Archer7 18:34, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The community portal is now done, if you have a spare moment would you mind taking a look? Archer7 19:12, 11 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

vandal talk pages[change source]

Blanking is probably not the best alternative. If the content is of no possible value to the article in question, delete it. Some vandals actually have semi-reasonable criticism about the article, and that should be kept. -- Netoholic @ 00:26, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for welcome Aflm. I'm not so active on simple: but i'll be more active. I want to ask why deletion process works slow on simple: you must speedy delete Pupa like articles. Cheers--Ugur Basak 10:14, 18 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Timark uk block[change source]

Hello,

I see you unblocked Timark uk. Well, I'd better give you my full evidence for suspecting him to be a sockpuppet of User:Pg2114.

First of all, he knows a user on other forums called Timark uk, so I instantly suspected him. In Timark's second vandalism attack, at 16:59 a bug in the MediaWiki software must have logged him out, and he contributed the same article replacement using his IP. I traced this IP and tracked it down to my school, where Pg2114 was at the time.

At 21:29 Timark uk started vandalising again, and he was blocked by you. Later an IP was autoblocked because it had been previously used by Timark uk. Pg2114 contacted me over MSN and sent me the 'blocked' error page he had when trying to contribute from his home. The only block which fitted the criteria was this autoblock, proving that Timark uk must be operating from the same computer.

After your block of Timark uk on the 14th February, Pg2114's edits stopped altogether. Pg2114's edits restarted on the 19th of February, after you unblocked Timark uk late the night before.

Pg2114 using his own user name has since threatened to blank every page on this wiki if he is blocked using an automated browser (which I have had to run tests on), and when I successfully disproved this, he then threatened to bankrupt the Wikimedia Foundation by making tiny donations for which the Foundation would be charged for by PayPal. I have since contacted PayPal to have his account restricted. For the full conversation, see my talk page.

I don't know what he said to you in that email, but I think my evidence is pretty conclusive. Please reblock Timark uk and also block Pg2114 immediately.

Thanks, Archer7 16:24, 19 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Comment requested[change source]

Hi Aflm! I would like your comment on Wikipedia talk:Simple English Wikipedia#Policy issue because you are an administrator and the discussion is directly related to how Simple English Wikipedia is or should be run. It is also related to Wikipedia talk:What Wikipedia is not, where I wouldn't mind knowing your opinion as well. Thanks! --Cromwellt|talk 20:40, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Multiple spam on different 'pedias[change source]

Please note that User:80.68.8.86 has spammed on several 'pedias. It seems to me that the best option is to heavily block this IP. You can see here for confirmation. --M7 22:48, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oi aflm!

-- Slade T 04:10, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, fine by me. Archer7 19:16, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wake up![change source]

I would apppreciate it if you could block whoever is responsible for creating those sockpuppet accounts to disrupt the project and my work:

When I go to Wikipedia:Administrators, I will place my request so that my work can continue smoothly. In the meantime, please block the IP(s) of this user and warn them off. --Slgrandson 07:14, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Forgive the spamming of admin talk pages, but I wanted to inform all the active admins that there is now a Counter Vandalism Unit IRC channel devoted to Simple English Wikipedia. If anyone is interest: #vandalism-simple-wp. -- Psy guy 16:35, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Anon vandal[change source]

User:71.141.175.137 has engaged in a vandalism spree. Could you please block this user? They have been vandalizing Niggers, Necrophilia, Sexual intercourse, racism and probably others. Thanks. The Ungovernable Force 07:49, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A couple things[change source]

1) I very much support the 'please do not add dictionary entries or years to the "Most wanted" section' preference. 2) I am having trouble figuring out how eagle is 'american POV'--according to the intro at EN, "Eagles are large birds of prey, who inhabit mainly the Old World, with only two species (Bald Eagle and Golden Eagle) in North America, a few in South America and three (White-bellied Sea Eagle, Little Eagle and Wedge-tailed Eagle) in Australia." [emphasis added]. Since the Golden is also found in Europe and Asia, only the Bald Eagle seems to have any particular connection to the US. It seems like eagles are one of the most widely distributed birds (perhaps owls should also be added, or raptors in general), unless you go out to fairly large groupings like Passeriformes (perching birds) or en:Anatidae (ducks, swans, geese); also eagle is on the 'all langs' lists at both EN and Meta. RE mollusc/mollusk. It's been a while, but I don't think I even checked whether it was an AE/BE thing (the dict I most often check didn't mention that[1])--I just went with the one with the most content edits, which, since I didn't discover the existence of mollusk until after I had editted mollusc once, was the latter. I do generally try to avoid 'correcting' the various forms of English. Freshstart 23:39, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can I post the truth about Christianity here?

Are you not going to make this article better? -- aflm (talk) 01:55, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I will, but there's things that need to be done to the en version before it's done, including a summary of their beliefs. You may want to talk to Jondel at the English Wikipedia, who's the de-facto translator for most of the INC articles on the Wikipedias. --User:LBMixPro<talk|to|me> 23:13, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I just put a beliefs section in, what do you think? --LBMixPro<talk|to|me> 20:59, 4 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

'Film' vs 'movie'[change source]

Ever since the parent article was moved from [movie] to film I had been thinking of changing all the Cats to match someday. But it didn't seem like a particularly urgent issue since there wasn't much happening in that category. But, now that there is, we should probably decide if we want to change the cats to match the parent, before even more get created. Freshstart 21:48, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think the inconsistency of having the parent article a different term than it's Cats is desirable. To me it's like having all the Popes in the Cat "Bishops of Rome", all articles on clothing in a Cat named "clothes", the Cat for fiction being "make believe", the Cat for health being "wellness", etc. Freshstart 22:26, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
"Movie" is supposedly US jargon[2] [3], but beyond that I don't really care if it's moved back to movie. Freshstart 23:06, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Greek Goddess[change source]

Hi. First of all you did not make the category Greek gods and goddesses - I did earlier this evening! I started off doing it that way, but then saw that Wikipedia English uses 'Greek gods' and 'Greek goddesses' for categories. I was told off before for using categories that are in the other wikipedia, so was in the process of changing it back. I've not meant to cause any offence here, but what way do people want to do things? Teagan 18:58, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

'Royalty and nobility' cat, and other cats[change source]

I see. It does mostly address my concerns with the 'kings and queens' cat, although I think the series is capitalized incorrectly (should be mostly lower case like 'cat:Roman gods and goddesses', etc.). Was there something else about it you wanted to point out? While I'm here, I know that EN uses Cat titles like "Category:Best Picture Oscar", but given that a) 'Oscar' is more informal, and b) inconsistent with the parent article and cat (both "Academy Award"), I think we should use "Category:Best Picture Academy Award"(s) or "Category:Academy Award(s) for Best Picture", or some similar name using "Academy Award" or "Academy Awards" instead of "Oscar". Do you see any problems with that? Freshstart 03:23, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Babel boxes[change source]

The Babel boxes have been renamed to conform to a new accepted scheme. Please remake your boxes or change the references to fit with the new standard format. The old boxes will be deleted. Ask me any questions on my talk page. Thanks! --Cromwellt|talk 02:15, 29 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Aflm! Thanks for doing the pt templates, etc. Your help on this project is greatly appreciated. I would like to mention two things, though. One is, I meant that you need to take the Babel boxes off of your userpage and put them back on again: the names of the templates have changed, but if you just put the Babel boxes on your userpage again (the same way you did the first time) it should work fine. The other thing is that a couple of us decided that the symbols (like "pt") are not very useful (especially to Simple readers), so we should write the full English name of the language in the symbol section, with the appropriate number. I'll change the Portuguese ones if you don't get to them first, but please understand why I'm changing them. Thanks. --Cromwellt|talk 22:27, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WikiReader[change source]

Would you mind taking a look at my WikiReader proposal on Wikipedia:Simple talk? I think it could be a fantastic way to go for the Simple English encyclopedia. Archer7 16:01, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Aflm. I noticed you were online and I thought an admin should be aware of this: The former is a legit user while the latter is an imposter vandal. Notice that the latter is B - i - (capital i, capital i) - z when the former in B - i - (lowercase l, lowercase l) - z. Check the history to see what I am talking about. Thanks. -- Psy guy 02:39, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair point. Did not think of that. Was just trying to make things simpler. (Teagan 18:21, 15 May 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Aflm, if you are going to list something under a discussed deletion, put some sort of discussion somewhere why you want it to be deleted. For List of coins, there was nothing on the talk page nor anything on Wikipedia:Requests for deletion so I'm not sure why you want it deleted. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 08:40, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reri Horlockon[change source]

User:Reri Horlockon has finally admitted to being the 63.19 vandal (see my talk page). Apparently his vandalism will carry on, so I have now warned him about Wikipedia contacting ISPs. Anything else happens, do a range block of 63.19 for a while, it's best to just knock it out now I think. Archer7 | talk 10:14, 10 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is there any chance that this account might be blocked? The account name itself is a pretty unique string of characters used by only one person (since it's my first two initials and my surname, which is pretty rare). Additionally, it is identical to accounts on other wikis (such as on Wikipedia), and its edits appear to be the work of a vandal set on discrediting this userid. I understand of course if blocking it is not possible. 71.241.106.96 00:30, 12 June 2006 (UTC)(en:User:ASDamick)[reply]
