DYK

I can't help thinking you're going about this in too complicated a manner. Don't copy ENWP's version, just start from scratch?

If you don't agree, I'll create my own version in my userspace and see if it doesn't work or is lacking. --Gwib -(talk)- 20:27, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Really, I think that there should only be three sections:
  • Rules
  • Nominations
  • Archives
We don't need anything else particularly. With our little activity, we'll get every hook verified and won't need a "Next update" or anything more complex than what's listed above. --Gwib -(talk)- 11:27, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Do we need 'Hooks'? As for updating, we could just wait till we get 5 DYK's and display them for minimum a week. Then after a week, leave them up until we get 5 more. But don't base it on ENWP. Make a new front page and all, their's is far too complex (IMO), unless you can simplify it? --Gwib -(talk)- 15:05, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks BG7, I am still perfecting it though, but it should look good. Feel free to try it out at User:Kennedy/Sandbox 2 Kennedy (talk) 10:05, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Welcome

Thanks. --Netito777 (talk) 18:04, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re; other Welcome

Thanks for your post; I usually edit on the standard WP, but came here following a link to the Italian Mare Nostrum page. I've left a post on the talk page there; perhaps you can advise me what to do about it. Xyl 54 (talk) 10:11, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks; I would go with listing for deletion, so we aren’t rewarding bad behaviour. And I’d also go for checking back through the edit trails, for any other cheats. How would we go about that?
I’ve also replied to Eptalon on the talk page, and his. Xyl 54 (talk) 14:10, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your user page

Hello. I see you're using my user page design from meta:User:RyanCross. I don't mind you using it, but you really should have asked first. I would have liked to know about it before you used it as your own. Also, I would appreciate it if you add an attribution to the design, say adding something like the following to the top of the user page:

This user page design was created by RyanCross at meta:User:RyanCross

RyanCross (talk) 01:54, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your right, I should have asked. Many apologies... I was actually expecting you to come on IRC and I would have chatted then, as I also want to talk through DYK a bit more.
I'm adding the bar now.
Thanks,
BG7even 08:08, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You could have simply just asked me here. I don't come on IRC as much as I used to because I'm beginning to feel most discussion should take place on-wiki rather than IRC. Well, no harm done. Cheers, – RyanCross (talk) 00:48, 24 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

re: bots

hi, yes that is the place to send the interested person but I just had to point out that there are no wrong questions on simple talk so long as they are related to wiki stuff. P.S. regarding the video game project... there is a vast amount of history in video games. This project in particular ought to outlive activity expectations and I for one as a new memer of the group have contributed a great deal to articles on video games, hardware and history related to the topic. I have not been so active here for some months but if it would convince you I will list dozens of articles for which I am the creator or main contributor this year and some more that I have made big changes to. I would expect no hinderance at all for the video game project and need to remind you that simple.wiki is a small comunity and you cannot pressure people in to spending full time at the work. The quality and validity should be the only concern in this case and it weighs those both in buckets. ~ R.T.G 10:42, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
Actually, if the questions are not directly related to simple then they arent really suitable for Simple Talk. Your talk page and {{helpme}} would work better.
Also, For the project: I'm not saying no, i'm just saying that at the moment there are not enough active people to warrant a project!!! You tell me on simple talk that I do not know how active this is: I am very aware of how active it is and that is why I have opposed. Take it away, improve it, get more active volunteers, and then bring it back when there are people who are active.
As you said, you were away for a long time. If that happens again, then the project is inactive for a long time, and thus not being used, then it is just wasting space. This is why I opposed. Please understand!!! If there are, say, 10 active contributors to the project then maybe it can be projectspaced. But for now, move it as a subpage of User:Project. That way, its with the rest of the projects and it can be seen: its just not ready for Project Space!!!

Uk Colleges Wiki

A little off topic but was wondering if you would help promote the wiki for me. Also I dont know if it was you with the Hosting wiki default but thanks for doing all of the templates. I have protected most of them with Autoconfirmed as the edit and move but some of the high risk ones I have placed as Sysop edit. Also on a Global scale how would I be a Staffer or cant I become one? I have a knowledge of programming although not great I can do a little. I did a little web programming and MySql work for the University of Oxford for a project they were doing. Anyway hope your ok. WashingManwithwings (talk) 12:13, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, no worries for OT ;).
Portal Hosting is our import script but yes it is monitored by me.
Staffer: Make a request at the Community Portal if you want to Staff and we'll review it and see if there is a place for you.
Thanks,
BG7even 12:17, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Wow that was quick reply. Ok I will do. Probably will do it from home as Im on an IP which is unstable. Thanks for applying all of the import scripts saved me having to do it. Also I was looking under the user rights and couldnt see the option of Rollback on their. Dont know if it is just because I dont have any users or what. I will create an account and try it out and let you know if it doesnt work. WashingManwithwings (talk) 12:21, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Lol yep ;). No worries when, i'm watching. Theres still some more importing but it shouldnt effect anything. We dont but bot on it because sometime the updates need to be high profile.
Rollback isn't yet installed on the wiki. All the user rights are still being built for your wiki, so things such as Steward, Oversight etc arent yet working fully. Thanks, BG7even 12:31, 21 October 2008 (UTC) (BTW, I'm User:Bluegoblin7 on your wiki, so let me know there and I will reply there ;) ).[reply]

speedy deletion

You do know that when you tag an article for speedy, or 'quick' deletion as it is known here, you should leave the content on the page, to help the administrator decide whether it should be deleted or not? You did this in Kandinsky, blanked the page and then tagged it. Please leave the content next time, unless it is extremely offensive. Cheers, FSM Noodly? 15:11, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes thanks for that. No need to be so confrontational. A simple "Please leave the content in place with speedys in future", or "were you aware that we keep the page content on speedys" would have been fine. Just because you are now an admin doesn't make you any higher than anyone else. Also, I would not tag a page for speedy if it wasn't to be deleted ;). I may not be an admin, but I am aware of policy and what and admin does. Thanks, BG7even 16:43, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't mean to be confrontational... I tried to word it so it wasn't.. sorry. FSM Noodly? 16:48, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No worries ;) We all make mistakes (me included.... such as blanking pages with speedy tags ;)!).
Thanks,
BG7even 17:01, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Dear Bluegoblin7/Archive 1 thank you for supporting my recent RfA which closed as successful. I very much appreciate your support and I will do my best for the community in my new administrator role. Thanks again, FSM Noodly?

Oh and by the way BG7 when do you think DYK will be up and running? FSM Noodly? 16:56, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You are entirely welcome! I hope you make a good admin.
As for DYK, it is sort of running now. We're accepting noms. I'm just waiting until i'm sure that everyone who is going to comment has commented at ST (which I think they have) and the i'll be bold and move it over. There are still a few more tweaks to make and it will be an ongoing process of improvement.
Please, add your suggestions!!!
Thanks,
BG7even 17:03, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DYK is up and running

Thank you for contributing positively to the community and providing the impetus to get DYK up and running

Barnstar Congratulations: You have been given a Barnstar!

This is for all your work with DYK - Regards --Matilda (talk) 03:55, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, thank you for your help! I managed to get the first batch of DYKs on the Main Page. I also made some changes to the other DYK pages. Thank you for starting it though! – RyanCross (talk) 04:00, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you both! :D BG7even 13:54, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

you around

Hi there BG7. I am around but I cant connect to IRC because I am in college and the firewall of the college blocks the IRC network even though I am on my own laptop. Cant get that bloody scanner fixed and also trying to hunt for my debit card lost it somewhere which aint good means I cant get my EMA out of the bank. WashingManwithwings (talk) 11:03, 24 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey don't worry ;). We can talk over email? Did you get the index page done? And unlucky dude, i hope you get it sorted soon.
Thanks,

Global account blocks

Hello Bluegoblin7,

Yesterday, I had a long talk with Spacebirdy and other Checkusers/Stewards on IRC. There was a vandalism spree on Simple Wikibooks, and possibly other projects. This led to a global account lock of a few accounts. Your active involvement in this vandalism could however not be clearly demonstrated. Your Global account has therefore been unlocked and I have undone the local account block on this wikipedia. I have no influence on the blocks other projects might choose to impose. I am sorry for the inconvenience caused and hope you will ocntinue editing here. --Eptalon (talk) 09:09, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AWB

Hi, sorry for stoppping you edit, but you're flooding RC. I've got you pinging every two seconds. Could you slow down a bit, please? MC8 (talk) 20:45, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WP:DYN

Why do you keep removing the line for separation....it makes it hard to separate the nominations.--   ChristianMan16  18:59, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, the nominations can be differentiated with the single line. This is how Wikipedia-en use it, and although we are not a copy (or not meant to be, we are actually a carbon copy at the moment :S ) it does help to take some design that works. If you hover ove the horizontal line button it says use sparingly - something we weren't doing with them, and it is also hard on the eyes.
Thanks,
BG7even 19:03, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I find it easier on the eyes, but whatever. And BTW if it works...user it.--   ChristianMan16  19:09, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm... well if it was easy on the eyes it wouldn't say use sparingly. It'd help if no-one had in their sigs... And i don't get the second part of your comment... BG7even 19:29, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I mean if the line separation works... then you should use it. Maybe we should talk out as a community a better way to separate cause that one line break does not work.--   ChristianMan16  19:42, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
2 line breaks? Or we could (complicate it even more by) add(ing) a seperate page for each nom and transcluding it.... BG7even 19:44, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know but we need to make it easier to ready and separate nominations and their discussions from others.--   ChristianMan16  19:53, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, for starters if people correctly formatted with *, ** etc, it wouldnt be an issue, and also if people didnt have superscript in their sigs (ok, i know im a culprit but im willing to remove it) BG7even 19:56, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
