I would like to request access to AWB. I've been a rollbacker for a good while now. I figured I could maybe help more with AWB? (god we need to move this to requests for perms) Derpdart56 (talk) 17:39, 4 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Derpdart56: Requesting AWB is different from other permissions, because the other permissions are permanent. AWB permission is given for specific, defined tasks, and is removed when the task is done.
So please describe the task you have in mind. Be specific: exactly what do you want to do, how many changes do you think will be made, and how long will it take you to do them? -- Auntof6 (talk) 20:20, 4 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
oh.
i didn't know that. Derpdart56 (talk) 13:37, 5 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Request for temp AWB

As I have come across one issue in the development of my bot for archiving due to a coding change, I need to test out and strictly in my own space making changes across the board to the Miszabot/Config on the pages. Once I can verify it will work with AWB, prior to bot being flagged, I would run this to replace it across the board so archiving works. I know what I am doing and I have used it before and to reiterate IT WILL BE STRICTLY USED IN MY OWN SPACE AND NOWHERE ELSE. I will need it until I am completed with the testing and satisfied with the results. I do not want an admin to do this as this is my project and I want to see it through please.

Thank you - Da LambTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? 19:21, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to clarify I would only need this for an hour or so to test. I will ping when I am completed. Da LambTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? 20:31, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Done Seems uncontroversial, you'll just be doing it in userspace, I don't see a problem. --Ferien (talk) 20:47, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@PotsdamLamb: When you say "making changes across the board", do you mean that you would (eventually) be changing other talk pages that are flagged for archiving? As in, changing maintenance pages and other users' talk pages? Also, did you mean you want AWB access for your personal account or for the bot account? -- Auntof6 (talk) 21:14, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Auntof6 Right now it is for my account to test something on my account only. It would be a one time change across the board after it is flagged for approval and only a few for the trial run. I would not need it under my bot account. I have to change one variable across the board because the pywikibot new software does not recognize the variable anymore. Da LambTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? 21:17, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Auntof6@Ferien I am done. The tests were successful. Thank you. I do not need the permissions at this point. I will need them again in the future though until it completes the changes. Da LambTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? 21:35, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@PotsdamLamb: Thanks. I have removed your access. -- Auntof6 (talk) 21:44, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Auntof6 Thank you. I did save my settings so when I am ready I just need to expand the scope from my page to everything else to search and make that change. I am speaking with a developer in IRC to fix the other remaining issue I have. Da LambTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? 21:45, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Request for AWB

I need this allowed again please to fix something’s done by the bot and will need it until testing is done as it will be used as my search method for the changes the bot made that it should not have. See my BRFA where it is stated “I don't think it can (or even should) be converted back automatically by the archivebot.py script. Yes, please revert the %s format string changes by yourself (i.e. with your own account, AWB is fine). The %s and %d format strings mean differently in Python and are not simply aliases for each other. Also, when the new patch is available, I ask that you please link it here for me to take a look first before we proceed with any new trial. Chenzw Talk 3:55 am, Today (UTC−7)”. Thank you. PotsdamLamb, can you please say what you are planning to do with AWB access? You don't seem to have said what you are wanting to do. --Ferien (talk) 16:36, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ferien, Sorry it is in the message from Chenzw (I should have bolded it) - I need to go through all the pages from the trial run of the bot and change the %s back to %d on the miszabot/config template. Da LambTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 16:38, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Alright,  Done. Please come back here and let us know when you are done. --Ferien (talk) 16:55, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@PotsdamLamb: How will you tell which pages were changed by your trial and which pages had %s to begin with? You wouldn't want to change the latter. -- Auntof6 (talk) 18:17, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Auntof6 I went through each change and only ran AWB against changes made by my bot. They all reverted to what they should be. I completed a couple of simulations with the bot successfully and completed the 50 trial edits. It did not change any of the variables, which is the way it is supposed to work. I am going to run AWB one more time on the changes I just made to verify it is correct. Da LambTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 18:20, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Auntof6@Ferien I am done with AWB. You may pull it please. Thank you. Da LambTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 18:21, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
 Done --Ferien (talk) 18:39, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Need AWB again

  • Task - Search all talk pages (both article and talk pages) to find any that limit what bots can archive them (mainly looking for ones like simple talk where SassoBot was the only authorized bot). Once found, on any main page, remove Sassobot from archiving (as mine is the drop in replacement for Chenzw and SassoBot for archiving) and for users to let them know if they want their talk pages archived, they need to allow PDLBotArchiver. No changes will be made to User Talk:..... Thanks - Da LambTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 15:27, 28 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
PotsdamLamb, I'm not sure why SassoBot should be removed from archiving, seeing as the bot is still marked on Wikipedia:Bots as used for talk page archiving? --Ferien (talk) 15:49, 28 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Ferien Per this " Approved. Noting for the record that this bot is a drop-in replacement for the archive bots that have previously been running on this wiki, and that this bot uses the same script as other archive bots. --Chenzw [he] Talk 10:30 pm, Yesterday (UTC−7)" re:Wikipedia_talk:Bots#Archiving Thanks - Da LambTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 15:52, 28 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
PotsdamLamb, to me, drop-in suggests that your bot would archive when SassoBot is not around, like right now. But when/if SassoBot returns, it would be a bit of a pain to have to add SassoBot to the archiving yet again, when it is still approved for this purpose currently. --Ferien (talk) 16:00, 28 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Ferien So if you follow the thread, you are interpreting this incorrectly. The word "drop-in" in this sense means I do not need to provide any kind of announcement. The original issue was it had replaced variables on user-talk pages. That has since been fixed. Replacement is because mine runs on toolforge automatically and does not need to be manually run (like SassoBot does). There are bots on that list that have not run since 2019 for whatever reason, but two bots should not be running for the same task hence why my bot is replacement. This is all in my BRFA. Thanks - Da LambTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 16:10, 28 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think there is no compelling reason to remove SassoBot from the {{bots}} template (if the template is transcluded). SassoBot remains approved for archiving work. Chenzw  Talk  02:10, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Chenzw Am I allowed to add mine with it so the pages get archived as well and if not, then the pages will continue until SassoBot is kicked off again? Thanks - Da LambTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 02:37, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see any issue adding the bot to project-space pages (why we even use the {{bots}} template in the first place is an interesting question for another day). However, as I mentioned on WT:BOT, if a user uses the {{bots}} template on their own user talk page, notify them instead and leave it to the user to perform the modification. Chenzw  Talk  02:41, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Chenzw Correct and I stated that in my original request above “ Once found, on any main page, remove Sassobot from archiving (as mine is the drop in replacement for Chenzw and SassoBot for archiving) and for users to let them know if they want their talk pages archived, they need to allow PDLBotArchiver. No changes will be made to User Talk:.....” of course remove is now next to. Thanks - Da LambTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 02:46, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I am striking my earlier comment above as it has been superseded by what I said in this subsequent edit. Chenzw  Talk  06:11, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
