Magdeburg is the capital of the state of Saxony-Anhalt, in Germany. The city covers an area of 201 km2 (77.6 sq mi). 229,266 people live there (June 2006).
A demonstration of air pressure (called the Magdeburg spheres) was done here by Otto von Guericke in 1656. Also, Georg Philipp Telemann was born here.
