Edward Allen "Ed" Harris (born November 28, 1950) is an American actor, writer, and director. He was born in Englewood, New Jersey, and raised in Tenafly.[1] He is best known for his roles in Pollock, Appaloosa, The Rock, The Abyss, The Truman Show, A Beautiful Mind, A History of Violence, Enemy at the Gates, The Right Stuff, Gone Baby Gone, and Paris Trout. He won an Golden Globe Award, an Drama Desk Award, and an Screen Actors Guild Award.

Harris studied at Tenafly High School and at Columbia University. He married the actress Amy Madigan in 1983. They have one daughter, Lily Dolores, born in 1993. Harris now lives in Los Angeles, California. His father was actor Bob L. Harris.
