blocks

Hey TDKR, I hope you are having a Happy New Year and you are getting better. Just FYI I partially blocked two /64 IP ranges from the main affected pages, Deaths in 2022 and Cat Deeley, to stop that vandalism. It seems as though the other changes they made are somewhat helpful. If they make any other bad pages just let me know and I can extend the block to sitewide. Thanks! --Ferien (talk) 22:02, 2 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

A good article

Hello TDKR, I have created the article Bridgerton which I've been expanding and translating on my computer for a while . I think it is comprehensive enough to be nominated for a good article in the near future. Apart from issues such as categories and redlinks (which am fixing); it meets the qualifications. Would you mind having a look to ensure there are no complex words and the texts are simplelified enough. Cheers --Synoman Barris (talk) 23:23, 12 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sure I'll give it a look over the weekend. I do recommend fixing the redlinks before nominating it. TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 16:22, 13 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Working on the red links right now. Thanks for the reply. Cheers Synoman Barris (talk) 18:58, 13 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Synoman Barris: I've read parts of the article through a quick scan and I noticed the language used in the Cast and characters section might be a bit complex. Also references 2 and 3 are missing. TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 18:17, 19 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Assistance needed

Good morning TDKR, I know you work extensively in building articles on recent events, and I've come across a couple of editors who also have been making changes in that same area. They are blocked at enWP and I'm wondering if you could look at their edits here and see if they are problematic in any way. Their contributions can be viewed here and here. I'd appreciate any thoughts you can assure. Thanks!!! (also pinging MathXplore for another set of eyes). Griff (talk) 10:50, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Griffinofwales: Looking at TKN 101 and their edits look pretty good nothing concerning. The one problem I did run into with HiltonMoonGood is that they keep on adding way to many images in death sections about yearly articles (i.e. 1995 and I reverted their edit before in 2022). That's the only problem I found (I'm not sure if there's a policy about that but at enwiki they're pretty strict about not adding too many images. TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 11:12, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I really appreciate this. If you happen to notice anything, feel free to bring it to the attention of me (or any other administrator) for possible action under ONESTRIKE. Griff (talk) 03:49, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

DYK Update

There are a lot of DYK's in the holding area, when will the DYK template be updated? Does it update once a month? If not, then would it be okay if I put some of the DYK's into the template to update it? Lallint (talk) 22:07, 27 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) @Lallint: Usually it's updated every month. We don't update as frequently as the English Wikipedia because of the low number of reviewers and DYK creators. Hi TDKR, I was really sad when I saw the notice on your userpage. Life changes and we all go down different paths all the time. So I just wanted to wish you the best in the future and thank you for all you have done to Wikipedia. SEWP would not have been over 200,000 articles if it wasn't for you. In fact we would not have the thousands of articles we have now if it weren't for you. In fact I love it so much when I click on random article and 1/4 times it would be an article you have created. Deaths by month or year

Hi TDKR Chicago 101. I think the lists of deaths for prior months or years need slight editing so they make more sense. For example, Deaths in 2021 says "For deaths that should be noted before the month that the world is in, please see "Months"." which doesn't make sense now that it's no longer 2021. Deaths in June 2021 says this as well, and also has links to deaths in January, February, March, April, and May 2021, which doesn't make sense either: it should either have links to all months, or no months.

I know they are like this because they don't get updated after the month is over. So, I think we should choose a standard "intro" to be used on prior year lists and prior month lists, and also decide if the month lists should have links to other months. Let me know what you think. Lights and freedom (talk) 04:11, 15 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wikilinking

I was under the impression we do not link to well known places. I know our MOS states in part “Only link the things and ideas that are important to understanding the article. It is not helpful to mark all possible words as hyperlinks. A large number of links can draw attention away from the most important links on a page. Generally, verbs and adjectives should not be linked, since most encyclopedia articles are about nouns - things or ideas, or the names of people or places.”

That is why I removed the links from the Ivana Trump article because New York City, New York, United States are all well known. I was and am pretty sure that somewhere it said not to do that. Also, why did you remove the time they responded to her residence from the article? It was properly cited. All other articles we attempt to give an approximate time of death (from what I can see).

All of this is just my curiosity as maybe I missed something. Thanks! PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? 10:48, 15 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I usually like linking places even if they're known out of convenience to our readers who wishes to read more about them and plus I'd like to assume not everyone knows these places or wishes to learn more about them. Plus I also don't see the harm in linking it :) TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 10:50, 15 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi I am wondering why you removed a key piece of information who also stated she was found dead on arrival on the staircase in her home from the article? This was stated by the Office of the Medical Examiner and shows why she would have 'blunt impact injuries to the torso' and then also you changed the sentence that she fell from her staircase, when she did not, she fell on her staircase and that is where she was found upon arrival. Thanks. PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? 18:06, 16 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

A lot of agencies reported the death and it was first reported by TMZ. I do not trust them for obvious reasons. I had posted the information because I was watching CNN when they stated he was alive. Nancy Pelosi Taiwan visit‎

@Vumury: I have no idea what your talking about, I was literally trying to improve the article to avoid deletion. Side note, you shouldn't be removing the deletion notice from an article you created, this decision is usually up to either the deletion nominator or another admin. TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 05:37, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I try my best to prevent articles from getting deleted here. @Auntof6: Added my reason on the article's talk page. TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 06:17, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@TDKR Chicago 101: Thanks. Since you did not create the article, you can remove the QD template if you think the article is simple enough.
For the record, I don't think anyone was saying that this topic wasn't worth having an article. The only issues were that 1) the original version wasn't simplified enough and 2) the article creator was removing the QD template. I did not proceed with deleting the article because I was trying to explain this to all involved. I'm glad it seems to have been worked out. -- Auntof6 (talk) 06:21, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Auntof6: I didn't mean "topic wasn't worth having an article", what I meant was that the article doesn't deserve to be deleted (despite it being warranted at first since it was a copy and paste), that's why I tried fixing it. TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 06:23, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
99% of Simple Wikipedia articles are translations of en.wiki, what is the difference with this one? and another stop being so aggressive with the novice user many will not be interested in Wikipedias like this if they continue like this. Vumury (talk) 06:27, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If you're translating from en.wiki then you should add attribution to the article's talk page like I did here [1]. Even then, some simplification is done like replacing complex words with some simple ones. TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 06:29, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The one who template the article disappeared and didn't give any reasons why I wanted to delete it and well, thank you anyway, you were the most helpful and I'm sorry, English isn't very strong, I'm from Hong Kong and I'm very worried about what might happen in Taiwan. Greetings!--Vumury (talk) 06:33, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, its good to reach out to other users for help/understanding and I hope you continue your contributions here! TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 06:36, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Vumury: Yes, many articles here are based on enwiki articles. When that happens, the person who creates the article is supposed to make sure the English here is simple enough. The issue with this one was that the text here was not simplified at first. This is Simple English Wikipedia, and articles are supposed to be in simple English. That's why Gotanda put the QD template on it.
I'm not saying we have no other articles that aren't simplified. Sometimes we don't catch them, but that doesn't mean it's okay for them to be unsimplified. I chose not to delete this article anyway, but the creator of an article is not allowed to remove a QD template. -- Auntof6 (talk) 06:37, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Well, if it were for that detail, the automatic deletion template would not have a place here, as far as I understand that template is used if the article is not encyclopedic, it does not have references, it doesn't have a really believable structure, it's promotional, it's advertising, it's low quality anyway, but the Pelosi's visit to Asia is more than announced. It is not erasing to erase, it is necessary to give explanations and concrete.--Vumury (talk) 06:53, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

New pages of just few sentences

Hi @TDKR Chicago 101, I'm TTP1233. I just wanted to know that new articles (based on small cities in US) is created with just one or two line by User:104.243.171.241. Is it allowed to keep those articles as I could see all those article are written in this manner as follows, <Name of the city> is a town in <Name of County>, <Name of the state>, United States.? No other info I could see in those articles. Best DRC (User:TTP1233) (talk . e-mail . contrib) 06:24, 15 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi TTP1233! Those article are pretty short and without any sources. I feel that they can be nominated for deletion, but to 104.243.171.241's defense, I have seen several articles about towns/cities that are like that (doesn't justify it). I feel that maybe important the infoboxes from enwiki to these articles might make the article stronger. TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 06:26, 15 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) @TTP1233: We typically do not delete articles of that type. Of course it would be better to have more info, but the single sentence is enough to establish notability even without references because cities, towns, etc. are considered inherently notable. -- Auntof6 (talk) 06:43, 15 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
