HAPPY NEW YEAR

Hello Friend! Have a happy new year🎉🎊🎇! :) Haoreima (talk) 03:32, 1 January 2022 (UTC) Thank you, Haoreima, you too! Darkfrog24 (talk) 03:34, 1 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Simplify

Thanks for your comments and understanding. I have tried to simplify the articles. Please take a look at the changes and make suggestions (or make changes if you like) Wellington Bay (talk) 20:05, 2 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I looked at the Roy B article. I think it still needs a lot more work. Writing in simple English is really hard to do and I don't think it's a surprise that your first few tries aren't working. I find it much, much easier to write articles from scratch than to translate them from en.wiki.
I think you should ask these articles to be moved to your userspace so you can keep working on them. Being blocked from en.wiki suuuuuuuucks but Simple can be very satisfying once you learn how things work here and if you take it seriously. Darkfrog24 (talk) 20:10, 2 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
How do I move articles to userspace? Wellington Bay (talk) 20:17, 2 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You can just copy and paste their content into new pages in your userspace. Or you can ask an admin to do it for you. That second way preserves all the page history. Darkfrog24 (talk) 20:27, 2 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
EDIT: I've never actually tried to do this, buuuuut. YOu could hit "more" at the top right of the page, click on "Move," change the "main" at the left to "user" and see what happens. Darkfrog24 (talk) 20:29, 2 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Right, I should be able to do it once autoconfirmed in a few days. I see you have been blocked from WP as well. It's discouraging you haven't been allowed back after 6 months via the standard offer I was going to try that but in the end I thought it would be too stressful and I thought I could sock without being noticed. I hope you're able to get yourself unbanned - or move on. Wellington Bay (talk) 20:50, 2 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The standard offer only works for simple cases in which the admins can clearly state exactly what the person is being blocked for. My case is very, very complicated, involving a false complaint, and getting the admins to say flat-out what they think I did wrong is not easy. Alas, Wikipedia is so ubiquitous that there is nowhere else to go. Darkfrog24 (talk) 21:36, 2 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sentō promotion

Darkfrog24, I know you have the best of intentions, but the Sentō article was not really ready. I should have returned to point out the many issues to be resolved before it was promoted. I think that promotion was an error. Admins are overworked and do not have tome to check everything. I had stopped commenting because I thought this, like most noms, had gone stale and would drop off. Please see the edit history and talk page. There is a lot of work to do. See also, my comments to BRPever. BBC Travel and CNN Travel are not authoritative here. BBC and CNN maybe. Travel, not. If I can write for CNN Travel without any fact checking (which I have done) it is not authoritative. Stripes is not the best source. Jakpost lyfestyle about saunas is accessible, but not really about sento. Why not use major press outlets? I have removed most of the problems. I know that seems kind of harsh, and I am sorry for that, but if you want to get this into shape, you will need to do the research. --Gotanda (talk) 00:46, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Gotanda, why address me as an individual about this? You saw a problem in Sento, so you went and fixed it, and you commented about it on the article's talk page. I guess it might make sense for something like "I can't tell which source this fact is from. You posted it, so do you remember?" If you know of better sources than the news articles and books Frontfrog and I used, by all means, provide links to them. Finding good sources for that article was difficult, and it would be a big help. If you don't happen to see any other sources that aren't paywalled, well there you go. But if you removed anything you truly believe to be problematic and the article still has lots of good content, then the problem with Sento might be over. If you believe in good faith that Sento should be demoted, there's a procedure for that too.
But you bring up something else that might be very important: That CNN Travel and BBC Travel don't fact check their articles and therefore aren't RS. If so, then those sources should be listed "use with caution" or even "don't use." En.wiki has a list of en:WP:Depreciated sources and en:WP:Blacklisted sources. The list en:Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Perennial_sources#Sources lists BBC and CNN but not their Travel subpages. It's my understanding that, here on SEWP, we follow en.wiki's lead unless we have an affirmative reason not to.
There is a big difference between one editor saying "That source is no good" and "Here's a link to an official or semiofficial page where that source was evaluated and formally found to be no good, with reasons given."
In short, if you think there are subsets of CNN and BBC that aren't reliable, the community should discuss it. Darkfrog24 (talk) 01:12, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, maybe I have mixed up my frogs and should have contacted Frontfrog. Just wanted to let you know in case you still wanted to work on it. --Gotanda (talk) 02:23, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oh we both worked on it! This was a two-frog project, ha ha! No article can be promoted to Good if only one person made big changes to it. Anyway, I went through all your talk page sections and found the exact places in each source that had the information you questioned. Please take another look and see if you still think the material is not sourced.
One very helpful thing you could do is to say why you think the material is wrong, why you think a source isn't good enough, etc. etc. Darkfrog24 (talk) 02:26, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

roma on montenegro

Hello, I have a question, why is the under the source dead link? if i click ond the source, they open it and works. Can you explain why then dead links is there ? What does it mean?

--Nalanidil (talk) 22:44, 9 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm glad you asked. I'd been wondering whether to talk to you. The answer is that they were all dead links this morning: [2] I fixed all four but forgot to remove two of the {{deadlink}} tags. Nice catch.
The URLs in the article looked functional but weren't. If you click that link, do you see where there's a little space in one url after "roma-" and another after "rights-journal"?[3] Those spaces stop the links from working. I was able to figure out where the main websites were and figure out what the titles were so I could search for the real articles, and I happened to succeed. I was also willing to take the time to go to those websites and run searches. If no one had wanted to bother, this article could have been deleted for not having sources.
What I'd wondered about asking you is, next time you start an article, could you please format the whole source instead of just putting an URL? Put the title and the publication and the date and the access-date (that's the date you read the source; no one else can add that for you, heh heh). That way, even if the url breaks or goes bad over time, it's possible for someone else to find the source later. See? I did it right here: [4]Darkfrog24 (talk) 23:03, 9 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, thanky you for helping, but this is allways a problem, I didnt know exactly how i must do that witht the date etc.

--Nalanidil (talk) 23:12, 9 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedias are famous for their taking time to learn. Try this:

<ref name=[ANY NAME]>{{cite web

|url=

|title=

|author=

|publisher=[put the name of the website or newspaper here]

|date=

|accessdate=}}</ref>

That one oughtta work for most sources. If it's a journal you can add "|doi=" or "pages=x-y" or whatever, but just those items up there are enough. Darkfrog24 (talk) 23:56, 9 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

A synopsis

Good morning Darkfrog! I have written a synopsis of the Khamba Thoibi in User:Haoreima/Folklore. According to my preparations, I just need to copy and paste the texts from my user-space to the main article. I think the texts are simple enough. Could you please thoroughly read the synopsis and point out words that need to be simplified if found? Thanks! Haoreima (talk) 02:14, 16 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

About Khuman Khamba

Good afternoon Darkfrog24! The article Khuman Khamba is about the hero of the epic Khamba Thoibi. He's like Odysseus of Odyssey. How shall we proceed? Haoreima (talk) 11:29, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It's very difficult to state if he's a legendary or historical. Because there are claims of his existence in the 13-14th century AD. Besides, though he's present in the epic poem, there's less mythical elements in the story except "god came to his dream and suggest to do this and that". So, he might be a true person though deified in literature. Haoreima (talk) 11:42, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It sounds like the thing to do is to say that the sources are mixed on whether or not he was real. If one source says he was real and another says he was just a legend, then say that. Likethe article on Ragnar the VIking. Could have been four different real guys. Darkfrog24 (talk) 13:41, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have updated the article. Haoreima (talk) 14:13, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Please review this one too. :-) Haoreima (talk) 13:58, 4 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I'll do it right now. But let's talk about something. You're the only contestant in this contest. You've already produced a few articles with positive scores. You're going to win unles someone else comes in. Darkfrog24 (talk) 14:06, 4 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hee Hee :-) Haoreima (talk) 15:21, 4 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Darkfrog! Could you suggest me how to better simplify the first paragraph of User:Haoreima/Shopkeeping Goddesses? Haoreima (talk) 14:32, 12 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have one more thing, "These goddesses are known for shopkeeping market for different shops". I want to use the word "Selling". How shall I insert it? How shall we modify the sentence? Haoreima (talk) 14:40, 12 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
This sentence doesn't actually work either way. You have to add more information. "The women are selling" doesn't work. "The women are selling apples" does. Darkfrog24 (talk) 14:45, 12 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The goddesses are selling many types of articles. Each goddess has her specific selling items which I wrote in the "List" Section. Since we can't mention every articles in the first introduction, we have to sum up like "goddesses are known for selling things of many kinds". Does it sound ok? Haoreima (talk) 14:49, 12 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Not really. Why say the sentence at all, then?Darkfrog24 (talk) 15:18, 12 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I don't understand what do you mean? Haoreima (talk) 15:38, 12 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It seems redundant (saying the same thing twice) to the other things in the article. Let's continue this at its own talk page. Darkfrog24 (talk) 23:04, 12 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Simplification of a passage

“O Tampha, your measure reaches the sky; an everlasting radiance marks your presence; you are the source of all living beings… both birth and death are your handiwork, you are the repository of all wealth; you can unravel the mystery of human souls and keep both the earth and the heaven jointly linked; you give shelter to the souls of living beings, keep them as beads are strung together; you are the highest of all goddesses and the most munificent in bestowing blessings… both the striped tiger and the white horse are your chargers; you can gallop on tall grass tops without even leaving a trace… you are born of the noblest royal family, are unmindful of your brothers and parents as disposed to doing only what pleases you… you are the very embodiment of beauty but still indulge in constant baths at every fount and embellish your tender body, use all the fruits of the Langmāi Hills as unguents, always neatly comb your tresses of hair, skitter lightly with your drapery loosely hung on your full blossomed body; your teeth are like pearls, your lips are as red as the wild tayāl in the bamboo grove; your fingers are soft as those of a neonate; your name is Panthoipi as no parents or brothers can exercise control over you; you appropriated the name by yourself ere anyone confers it on you; you have an unfettered soul, nowhere can you keep yourself confined, you have as many appearances as you please to change your abode… you lord over the vast empty vault, took your birth with the flash of lightning… you are the receptacle of all knowledge… no opponent can confront you in the stricken field, you shine more than the glories of all divine beings put together… you emerged with the flash of summer lightning before dewdrops got condensed in the sky, before sound itself could be audible and before the azure welkin could yet cover its vast expanse… you are effulgent in the open sky like one thousand suns… all the divine beings emanate from you… the wide universe is your creation… you take fancy more to lively frolics that engaging your intelligence… you pervade all the directions…”

How shall we do this? It's for goddess Panthoibi! Haoreima (talk) 12:26, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'll answer on the talk page. Darkfrog24 (talk) 13:26, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Darkfrog! I used your readability mechanism once you showed me. According to it, Konthoujam Tampha Lairembi is in the "fairly easy to read" status. Haoreima (talk) 04:35, 28 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Is it? I will look at it again. Darkfrog24 (talk) 11:39, 28 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Please re-review for Khuman Pokpa (simplified recently), Helloi (simplified recently) & Konthoujam Tampha Lairembi (readability issue I informed you last time). --Haoreima (talk) 09:18, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure it counts if you improved the article after March 31, but I'll ask. Darkfrog24 (talk) 11:31, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, please ask. But in the past 2 editathons I participated (one was an editathon where you were also a jury, hope you remember), juries ask participants to develop it again and again until the end of judgement period (one month later of the contest timing/submission timing) I develop it and it was accepted. --Haoreima (talk) 11:35, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds relevant. Here's the post if you want to contribute: [5]
The big issue is getting Fountain to recognize that I want to change something. Darkfrog24 (talk) 11:37, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, @Haoreima:, they said no to changes made after March 31. Can you point me to the articles you improved before that? I'll look at those again. Darkfrog24 (talk) 19:15, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
For the article Helloi, I simplified yesterday. But I have also developed many before the contest ends. Please review using the article's edit history. For Khuman Pokpa, I simplified a little more yesterday but I have already simplified much enough before too (during the contest period ends) and for Konthoujam Tampha Lairembi, it's our misunderstanding of the simplicity of the article. Khuman Khamba was also developed before the contest ends. This very article's only problem was that it has a long plot. Does it affect in accepting the article? I found Laikhurembi already simplified before the timing but it's in an unaccepted article as of now. Besides these, I saw 6 articles remaining to be judged. --Haoreima (talk) 01:38, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Darkfrog! I still have a doubt. By "improved" of "articles created or improved before March 31", does it refer to only "expansion or addition of contents only" (As the rules highlighted only these). As Simple English Wikipedia's simplification process of articles is really unique from all other Wikipedias, is it different from that term "improved"? Could you please ask this explicitly once again? I just want to get clarified. Because in the last 2 editathons, unaccepted articles got re-accepted after the editathon ends but a timing before the final declaration of the results. I hope you remember you even once asked me to improve the articles before a few days prior to the declaration of results in the last editathon "WikiLoves Women South Asia"! --Haoreima (talk) 01:33, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I remember. I will abide by the meta-organizers' decision about whether later improvements count. In the meantime, I will go to Khuman Khamba and look at its last revision as of March 31. For certain, improvements made before April do count. Darkfrog24 (talk) 02:06, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I notice you seem agitated about this. Is it because you think you're going to lose the contest, come in second to that person who put up all those articles at the last minute? Well you are not going to come in second. Right now, it is impossible for you to come in anything but first, even if all that person's unjudged articles are perfect and none of your remaining unjudged articles are. You have a lower percentage of judge-yes articles but you made so many that you are still the winner by a wide margin. You outworked the competition. Darkfrog24 (talk) 02:56, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No buddy! You misunderstood me! 😁 I am not selfish like that! 😆 You might have seen I have simplified two articles (one each for the other contestants) just to make their unaccepted articles get accepted. I improved article Sarangi created by Aishik Rehman & article Didda created by SyrusXX. It's because I love them. I am trying to improve their scores too at the same time I want improvement of mine though. I am not too narrow minded. I know who score how much! I am only just trying to improve my scores. To me, it's not a competition, it's a joy of helping my brothers and sisters in improving the articles on Wikipedia platform. Thanks! :-) 😜 --03:10, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ha ha! I suspected as much! Your hard work deserves the win, though. Darkfrog24 (talk) 03:12, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Now, come back to judge the article Konthoujam Tampha Lairembi! Hee hee! :-) --Haoreima (talk) 03:13, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oh but my brain is tired! Darkfrog24 (talk) 03:14, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Take rest. Come back when you got fresh. :-) 😁😁☺ --Haoreima (talk) 03:26, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

For now, yes. The community here has been good to me. But there is no denying that if you want to write things that other people will read, En.wiki is first among wikis. My plan for the time being is to use Simple as a framework for things to do on en.wiki as I rebuild my reputation there. Darkfrog24 (talk) 20:13, 11 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, on Pacific swift, you cited a reference named "Amph", but that reference doesn't exist. Do you know what the reference was supposed to be? (I know this was a while ago, so you may not remember.) Lights and freedom (talk) 00:28, 19 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I do remember. It was for "AmphibiaWeb." Most of the animal articles I create are about frogs, and AmphibiaWeb lists their conservation status. That tag was simply left over from when I copied the infobox and format. Darkfrog24 (talk) 00:31, 19 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

"Litoria" castanea

Do you see a reason that the genus of "Litoria" castanea should be in quotes? Somebody moved it to that title on enwiki, because as they said "species currently incertae sedis within Pelodryadidae". Djsasso moved the simplewiki page to that title, and then the quotes were removed from the enwiki page. Lights and freedom (talk) 06:50, 5 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The scientists are always changing their minds about this sort of thing, and yes, quotes are the way to express "we don't know which genus right now." When I started writing frog articles for SEWP, I often chose the common name just because the scientists had changed the Latin name so much. But it sounds like the en.wiki colleague who moved LC to incertae sedis either didn't have a source or otherwise jumped the gun. I'll look into it. Darkfrog24 (talk) 12:07, 5 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Looked into it. ASW slapped on the quotes in 2016. We're good. Darkfrog24 (talk) 13:36, 5 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to organize Feminism and Folklore 2023

Please help translate to your language

Dear Darkfrog24/Archives/2022,

Christmas Greetings and a Happy New Year 2023,

You are humbly invited to organize the Feminism and Folklore 2023 writing competition from February 1, 2023, to March 31, 2023. This year, Feminism and Folklore will focus on feminism, women's issues, and gender-focused topics for the project, with a Wiki Loves Folklore gender gap focus and a folk culture theme on Wikipedia.

You can help Wikipedia's coverage of folklore from your area by writing or improving articles about things like folk festivals, folk dances, folk music, women and queer folklore figures, folk game athletes, women in mythology, women warriors in folklore, witches and witch hunting, fairy tales, and more. Users can help create new articles, expand or translate from a list of suggested articles.

Organisers are requested to work on the following action items to sign up their communities for the project:

  1. Create a page for the contest on the local wiki.
  2. Set up a fountain tool or dashboard.

@Haoreima, Operator873, and Eptalon: Merry Christmas, usual suspects! What do you guys think of this? Darkfrog24 (talk) 13:32, 24 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

In very short terms: What can we lose? - If we participate, it increases our visibility. Even if the articles we make are very bad, someone might see them. They might even think that they are very bad and make them better. When they do this, we have another editor. So, yes. And Merry Christmas. Eptalon (talk) 13:58, 24 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for late reply! I was a little busy yesterday and today regarding celebrations. Well, this year, I will like to participate both as a jury (but I will not judge my self created articles; another jury will judge my article) as well as a contestant. Because it was what I did in Meitei wikipedia last year where another jury judged mine. I want to experience it here too! I hope Darkfrog, you will be our judge this year too! :-) Haoreima (talk) 15:26, 25 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
