RfD nomination of Rape culture[change source]

An editor has requested deletion of Rape culture, an article you created. We appreciate your changes, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article meets Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Please comment on the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2013/Rape culture and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also change the article during the discussion to address the nominator's concerns. But you should not remove the requests for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you very much. Rus793 (talk) 19:56, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Shiningroad. I have moved Rape culture to your userspace, at User:Shiningroad/Rape culture. Please take note of the comments in the deletion discussion; and, if you still want to publish this article, make improvements accordingly. When you think it is ready, lodge a request for it to be moved back (at either Wikipedia:Deletion review or Wikipedia:Simple talk) and it will be re-published once it is approved. If you don't want the page anymore, just add {{qd|u1}} to the page and an administrator will delete it. Best regards, Osiris (talk) 11:03, 12 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Citing sources[change source]

In the RfD discussion you mentioned finding sourcing to be confusing. I can help with that if you like. On my talk page go to Tools (left panel) click 'Email this user.' Any emails to me will show the email address you used when you got your account here so make sure that's the one you want to use. I'd be happy to work with you on source citations and I've tutored other users before. I can also help with the research part too. I'm a more recent editor here but I've been a content editor at another wiki for over seven years. Either offer is just that, an offer. Take me up on it or say no thank you, either is fine. VE issues[change source]

Hi Shiningroad. It looks like VisualEditor might be causing you to overlook some things when editing. Sometimes you leave a letter on its own at the beginning of a link (like s[[Seafood|eafood]] here and Z[[zimbabwean|imbabwean]] here). Thought you might want to know about it. Barnstar[change source]

Barnstar Congratulations: You have been given a Barnstar!

Thanks for your good work on getting articles created! You could be a patroller one day if you're not already. --~ curtaintoad ~~ talk ~ 11:23, 8 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

About this edit: it doesn't look good to leave gaps in the list like that. Please try to make that kind of list complete when you add to it instead of picking and choosing which items to add. --Auntof6 (talk) 00:33, 9 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Articles about people[change source]

I appreciate you thanking me for editing the articles you created about people! I'd like to help you get some of the needed things into those articles yourself. The main thing I notice is that they need a defaultsort and more categories. A while back, I wrote something at User:Auntof6/What_to_put_in_a_biographical_article#Categories on how to figure out the categories for these articles. Please take a look at that and let me know if you have any questions. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 20:10, 9 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback[change source]

Hi Shiningroad. I flagged your account with the rollback feature. I'm not sure whether you're familiar with it, but it will help you to revert vandalism much more easily. There aren't any options, just one click and it undoes all changes made by a single user in a row. You can test it out here if you like. Just note that you should only ever use it with obvious vandalism. For any good-faith contributions, you'll have to use the undo button. Osiris (talk) 23:44, 14 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

New articles[change source]

Hello again, Shiningroad. Thank you for all for these 'thank' messages you're sending me. It is nice to know that my time and energy is being appreciated. I do these things, though, in the hope that the author will eventually pick it up themselves and I will no longer have to do it for them. If you check back on the edits I've made, you'll see that most of them are roughly the same thing over and over. Things like using the sort key magic word so that the biographical pages get sorted in the category by surname, adding links to explain non-simple words where appropriate, adding a stub tag on short pages, and calling for references on WP:BLPs (which is required by policy). If you need any help with any of these things, please let me know. Regards, Osiris (talk) 02:25, 19 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

They're looking pretty good! Osiris (talk) 09:19, 24 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

David Sedaris[change source]

You might not have known, but when you mention certain things about living people, you have to have a reference. You can read about this at en:Wikipedia:Categorization/Ethnicity, gender, religion and sexuality. One of those things is sexual preference. I removed the section about David Sedaris' sexual preference because you didn't include a reference. If you want to put that info back, be sure to include a reference. Actually, all BLPs (biographies of living people) should have at least one reference anyway, so it would be great if you add some even if you don't put back the info I removed. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions about this. --Auntof6 (talk) 23:36, 26 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Like Auntof6 mentioned, all BLPs should have at least one reference. You're still creating BLPs without any sources. Could you fix this, please? If you need a place to start, have a look at last month's list and look for the ones you created. Regards, Osiris (talk) 06:35, 2 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Jane Goldman and Emily Jane White are two new ones that each need a reference. Osiris (talk) 06:46, 8 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A Little Tip[change source]

Thanks for creating all of those articles, but I would suggest you link the one that are on En Wikipedia as well to the one on this wiki. You can do that my under the languages section just click add languages, and then in the wikiprefix type en then in the next box the title of the article on En Wikipedia. As such allows people and users to view both articles without searching them on the various languages. --Clarkcj12 (talk) 16:58, 2 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I know, I just wanted to say nice work and a good breadth of topics in your created pages.:) fr33kman 04:07, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I agree -- you're creating some good articles! How would you like to take the next step and make sure they're all wikified and stuff? You could add links (some of them had no links at all), more categories (such as categories for exactly where people are from, if we have the category for their birthplace), and include an infobox and/or an image. If you're basing the articles on enwiki articles, you could keep the infoboxes/images from there. Also, if you're basing articles on enwiki articles, be sure to give attribution. Let me know if you'd like more info on any of this! --Auntof6 (talk) 00:35, 24 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Category:American transgender people[change source]

Hi, Shiningroad. Just to let you know, we had an RfD to delete this kind of category, where subsets of LGBT people (gay men, lesbians, etc.) were categorized by nationality. The RfD passed, so this category has been deleted. All the entries in it were moved to Category:American LGBT people and, where needed, to Category:Transgender and transsexual people. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions about this. --Auntof6 (talk) 09:13, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Talk:Harry_Potter_(film)[change source]

Re Talk:Harry_Potter_(film) you asked for someone to delete the page - can I remind you of {{QD}} and {{RfD}} I only noticed by patrolling but you'd seen it before. Remember to also warn the user. Thanks, Kennedy (talk) 14:49, 12 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sheila Jeffreys[change source]

Will you please add something to this article to show why Ms. Jeffreys is notable? Right now, it just says some things she did that anyone could do without becoming notable. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 22:48, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A couple more that don't show notability[change source]

Courtney Barnett and Catharine Macaulay don't say why their subjects are notable. Even if a person is notable and there are references in the article about them, you still need to say something about why they are notable or the article could get deleted. Please add something to both of these articles and keep this in mind when you create more articles. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 17:42, 17 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I see that you added info to these, but they still need more. The article on Macaulay doesn't say anything about why her book was important (anyone can write a book), or her political activities that brought her to public notice. The article on Barnett doesn't say anything about the reception her music has gotten or awards she has won or been nominated for. The notability guideline for musicians might help you figure out what to include. Let me know if you have any questions about this. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 23:19, 17 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hole discography[change source]

Hi! Just a note of gratitude for creating "Live Through This". ツ My most favourite album. And for "Pretty on the Inside also. I added a bit of markup to make the titles in italics so they will wikilink to their mentions in other articles. Happy editing! Fylbecatulous talk 17:02, 20 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for being one of Wikipedia's top medical contributors![change source]

please help translate this message into the local language
The Cure Award
In 2013 you were one of the top 300 medical editors across any language of Wikipedia. Thank you so much for helping bring free, complete, accurate, up-to-date medical information to the public. We really appreciate you and the vital work you do!

We are wondering about the educational background of our top medical editors. Would you please complete a quick 5-question survey? (please only fill this out if you received the award)

Thanks again :) --Ocaasi, Doc James and the team at Wiki Project Med Foundation

Thank you for creating this article. As I mentioned above, at User talk:Shiningroad#David Sedaris, when you say what a living person's sexual preference is, you must include a reference for it. In addition, all articles about living people need references. The article has been tagged for being a BLP without references. I have removed the mention of Palmer's sexual preference because there is no reference for that. Please add a reference to this article. If you want to put back the mention of her sexual preference, you must have a reference that specifically mentions it. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 09:56, 26 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

RfD nomination of Suicide of Amanda Todd[change source]

I reverted your good faith edit to Jeremy Corbyn for the reason is it a BLP. Sensitive or controversial statements have to be removed if not accompanied by a reliable source citation. Add a high quality source and you can replace the statement. Thanks User:Rus793 (talk) 15:46, 24 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Helping with a research project in Simplification[change source]

Hello Shiningroad,

I'm reaching out to you because I am working on a research project on simplification and am looking to collaborate with domain experts.

A quick introduction: I am a researcher interested in text simplification and am working towards publishing a resource in text simplification based on Simple Wikipedia (quite a rich encyclopedia). We believe this resource, which we will make public, could be valuable to educate and increasing awareness of text simplification.

Some colleagues and I are looking to collaborate with domain experts in the creation of the resource. We've secured some budget for our research project, so there's the possibility to remunerate a few experts that would work with us.

I do not mean to spam you, so feel free to disregard/delete if you feel this is inappropriate (and I apologize). On the other hand, if you are interested, please feel free to reach out, either directly on Wikipedia or by email (phillab@berkeley.edu) and I would be happy to tell you more.

Thank you, and sorry again if you feel this is inappropriate,

Philippe Laban
