Request for Review[change source]

Hey, I'm RazorTheDJ we last had a chat around 2018, hope you're well. Please assist me patrol this article on the English Wikipedia Ghosty(producer). I'd really appreciate your assistance. Thank you so much and Cheers --AyoXR (What's Good? - My Contributions) 21:58, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi XR98, nice to talk to you again! Sorry, I don't patrol articles on the English Wikipedia very much anymore. Hopefully someone there can check it out, I recommend giving it some time. Best, Vermont 🐿️ (talk) 01:05, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the reply Vermont, it's just that the backlog on there is pretty crazy so I'd have really appreciate if you did that for me but it's fine I understand since it is my first proper article there I'm pretty excited to have it reviewed as soon as possible 😅 but all's good. Thanks! I've been using it for a few weeks now. I never really liked when I had one of those custom signatures, but a completely plain one seemed boring. Squirrel (well, actually a chipmunk but close enough) emoji it is. Vermont 🐿️ (talk) 20:54, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Restore[change source]

Hello, dear Vermont, where can I turn to restore this article? The person is very famous in Azerbaijan, so it seemed strange to me that the result ended with the deletion of this kind of article. Bəşir İmanov (talk) 17:40, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop trying to make that article. Vermont 🐿️ (talk) 17:46, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

IP Address[change source]

Hello, Vermont, I had a Wikipedia training session this past Friday and Saturdays were I introduced newbies to Wikipedia. However, most of them faced IP address block issues and just about three newbies could edit. Is it possible to give you a list of the newbie usernames to unblock them to let them start editing and prevent them from being uninterested in editing again? Thank You So Much.( Kaffzz 12: 55, UTC 30th June, 2022 )

Kaffzz, definitely, I can give global IPBE if they're affected by global blocks. Feel free to email me or paste it here. Best, Vermont 🐿️ (talk) 13:12, 30 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much,Vermont, kindly give me your email so I send you the list Kaffzz (talk) 15:48, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

please guide me[change source]

hello, good time, i wrote an article about ali tajdary, an iranian sports hero, actor and singer, but it was deleted twice, when it was deleted, his name was not in sherdog, but currently three of his matches are registered in sherdog. also, the champion jaguar has also become the champions of the world organization. now can this article be registered or not? if you think it is possible to remove ali tajdary from restrictions so that i can revive it, thank you. https://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Ali-Tajdary-368445 Razeasheghi (talk) 13:22, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Topics need significant coverage in multiple reliable, verifiable sources independent of the topic. I don't think that Ali Tajdary meets that notability threshold, and I would recommend you find a different topic to write about :-) Vermont 🐿️ (talk) 14:14, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

From evidence on English Wikipedia, the following seem to be User:Sinlu22:

I can't personally connect these to Sinlu22 via CU (that account is stale), but check out Special:Diff/7759605 and Special:Diff/7845366. You might want to check for more here. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 22:45, 28 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, seems Auntof6 got it. Vermont 🐿️ (talk) 16:30, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I only deleted the ones that PDL tagged. I think here he's asking for the rest of his pages to be deleted. -- Auntof6 (talk) 16:34, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ah. Any idea of a relatively simple way to do that? I could copy all of them into a userspace page and do a Twinkle D-Batch, but there's quite a lot of them. I'm also not sure if any, specifically his scripts, are in use by people. Vermont 🐿️ (talk) 16:46, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
AWB has a delete function that I think admins can use. I think I've used it before, but not recently. If it works, you'd just need to load the list of pages and click "Delete" for each one. I think.
Besides scripts, I see that some of his userboxes are used by others. I suppose those could be moved to template space. -- Auntof6 (talk) 16:56, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I copied all of the pages (apart from the scripts and userboxes, as some are indeed still in use) into my user sandbox and used D-batch. Now we have just got to think what to do with the remaining pages. --Ferien (talk) 19:01, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Self-block[change source]

I don't know if you were aware, but PotsdamLamb has locked himself out of his account (until 2030) using a script on User:PotsdamLamb/common.js (wikibreak enforcer), so it's unlikely he will come back. I'm only telling you this in case you didn't notice, not trying to get involved in a dispute. Lights and freedom (talk) 23:56, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the note. That's voluntary, however, and there are ways around it. The incivility necessitated a block. Vermont 🐿️ (talk) 16:30, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Request for a minute of your time[change source]

Hi Vermont,

Could you take a glance at [https://simple.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=2022_Russian_invasion_of_Ukraine&action=history this article's history] and confirm that that level of cross-wiki sourcing isn't sufficient? (And if so, how bad is it in practical terms - the user in question is currently the subject of a painfully complex unblock request over on en-wiki) Nosebagbear (talk) 22:42, 21 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Given the template on the talk page noting that it's a simplification of the enwiki article, and edit summaries saying the content is from the enwiki article, it seems fine to me imo. The simplifcation isn't great but at least there's an attempt. Vermont 🐿️ (talk) 02:05, 22 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Simplification with links[change source]

I recently tried to simplify this article by removintg the in text description and replacing it with a link https://simple.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Jichinsai&diff=8776236&oldid=8776213&diffmode=source

So instead of talking about a complicated task with bamboo it talks about making a Himorogi. Does that help make the article more simple or add complexity? Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (please tag me) 06:02, 17 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Immanuelle, it depends on how complex the article you're linking to is. However...I'd probably say "People set up a Himorogi at the space: they placed green bamboo..." This links to the article and provides a simple description of it.
The remainder of the paragraph is quite complex.

The ceremony is held in the presence of builders, designers, and clients.

"...in the presence of..." is not simple. It's better to reword the sentence to allow for simpler phrasing and structure: "When the ceremony is held, the builders, designers, and clients are often there."

A wooden platform is set up, and in the center is an altar on which offerings such as rice, sake, fish, vegetables, salt, and water are placed.

It's best to use active voice rather than passive. "In the ceremony, they set up a wooden platform. People place offerings, which are gifts (for the landlord deity?), on the center of the wooden platform. These offerings can be rice, sake, fish, vegetables, salt, and water."

In some cases, sand or salt from the beach near Ise Grand Shrine may be used.

Change to active voice. "In some cases, they use sand or salt from the beach near Ise Grand Shrine."

Five-colored silk banners, called Masakaki, representing the five elements of the universe, are also used. In the past, dragon pillars and arrows were set up to pray for safety during construction.

For the first sentence, it's best to move the verb away from the end; this helps people contextualize what the sentence is talking about, because the structure is unclear until the very end. For example: "They often use five-colored silk banners, called Masakaki. These banners represent the five elements of the universe."
For the second sentence, change to active voice, and move the important part of the sentence to the front: "In the past, to pray for safety during construction, people set up dragon pillars and arrows."
WP:HOW#Method provides useful step-by-step ways to simplify content. It's not always needed to cross-check with the word lists; once you do this a lot, it'll become easy to simplify content. It is, however, a learning curve. Best regards, Vermont 🐿️ (talk) 15:34, 17 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for blocking the user, their attacks were really getting under my skin. I assume they are the same LTA that has harassed me on En.wiki before after I reverted their vandalism. I was wondering if you could extend the block, given the severity of their behavior. In 31 hours, I don’t want my TP to be flooded with the same crap. Please understand, thanks! Illusion Flame (talk) 01:47, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm considering a longer and/or wider action given the range's block on the English Wikipedia. Not sure yet, as it is a wide range. If it does continue on this specific IP, I'd definitely block it for a longer period of time. Vermont 🐿️ (talk) 02:01, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay thanks, and I would recommend taking wider action, we can always unblock if necessary. Looking in their ENWIKI contributions, it looks like I reverted their vandalism and they vandalized the page titled “Illusion” It is now removed from public view, so it must have been bad. Illusion Flame (talk) 02:06, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You may also want to do some revision deleting, really their most recent edit to my talk. Illusion Flame (talk) 02:36, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
