Barnstar[change source]

The Teamwork Barnstar
For Albacore for his work as part of the "Did You Know" team. This small group of editors make suggestions, check the facts, offer improvements, and make sure there are always new DYK hooks to go onto the main page. Keep up the good work. Peterdownunder (talk) 12:10, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Reporting vandalism[change source]

Thanks for reporting the vandalism. However, generally, it's not necessary to report it unless they vandalize after receiving a "final" warning. Nonetheless, I thank you for being vigilant about patrolling recent changes - it's important around here! Kansan (talk) 20:30, 5 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your last edit to sulfur hexafluoride was refactored because nonreactive and nontoxic are two different concepts. --Chemicalinterest (talk) 21:18, 9 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Now I see. It is extraordinarily nonreactive, though. Lithium is about the only thing that reacts. --Chemicalinterest (talk) 21:24, 9 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

See also vs. Related pages vs. Other pages[change source]

Arsenic bacterium[change source]

I've redirected GFAJ-1 to the new page Halomonadaceae. I had not known about your page, and Eptalon had asked me on my talk page to do something about the NASA discovery.

Anyway, the change is because 1. as per enWP title, and 2. My version is more substantial. I realise this may be annoying, but no offence was intended. Something had to be done quickly, because this will get into all the papers, and kids will look it up.

Let's leave it for this week, and look up the Science paper next week. Longer term, we can think about the title; I'm not really happy with either of ours! In principle, as long as we find the right redirects, kids will be able to find it.

Hey, Albacore! :) I was wondering if you could comment on the article I proposed for GA, Knut (polar bear). Hi Albacore,

You really got into the details on those references. I guess that is the next thing I have to learn around here. I do appreciate your objection to Komodo Dragon moving to GA, but I hope it is OK. I notice that on that article and on many others you are really trying to keep the GA and VGA standards high. Albacore, Thanks for catching my error. I just wanted to let you know I am not a total airhead. I stuck a temporary reflist in the March section to check and clean-up some citations. I forgot to remove it before I save my changes. When I looked and to save version, I saw the error. I tied to correct the error, but you beat me to it. Warkany syndrome[change source]

That's the third time the article's been created as vandalism. Could you SALT it to at least autoconfirmed? Purplebackpack89≈≈≈≈ 01:31, 5 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Given that the syndrome exists (as 1 and 2) and we have an article on one of them I think either a disambig (with 1 red and 1 blue link) like EN does or just a redirect to Warkany syndrome 2 would be better. James (T C) 02:06, 5 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Jean Balukas[change source]

Hi, I've given the article a pretty thorough copy edit and simplification. I think it is now stronger, but there are now a bunch of red links. I'm getting to those as I can, but would you take another look? One other issue is that some of the quotations are quite long and not all that simple. I'm thinking of just paraphrasing them to avoid difficult vocabulary. Any thoughts? Thanks, Gotanda (talk) 03:01, 7 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm trying to fix the refs as you indicated, but before I go any further, can you check the two I did so far? If they are now done correctly, I'll try to keep going. I just don't want to waste time "fixing" a bunch of them the wrong way so that they then need to be fixed again. Refs 38 and 39. Diff here. Thanks, Gotanda (talk) 02:03, 8 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good, though I would note to add a |publisher= for newspapers where appropriate. Albacore (talk · changes) 15:30, 8 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You offered a full copyedit upon request, this is said request. Unless, of course, you no longer feel it necessary, in which case could you comment again at WP:PAD with your updated feelings. The Rambling Man (talk) 18:13, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

More PAD? Please give us a chance to catch up[change source]

Hi Albacore,

I know that keeping the quality of articles up is important, but I just can't keep up with all of the recent PADs. It seems only a few editors are interested in try to keep them. At this rate, we won't have any GAs or VGAs left. Could I ask you to please hold off on any more PADs until we at least finish Jean Balukas? I've been slowly but surely filling in the red links, and it is almost there. Maybe one PAD at a time and then we can actually concentrate and fix them? The articles have been hanging around for a long time in this condition anyway. An extra week probably won't hurt too much.

Just a friendly request.

Thanks, Gotanda (talk) 08:31, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'll propose one PAD at a time, so that both articles will have a better chance of being fixed. Albacore (talk · changes) 17:31, 17 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Convert template[change source]

Hi Albacore, I was working through your comments on Saturn (planet) and have a question. You say not to overlink terms like km, but the convert template puts the links in automatically. Is there a way to turn that bit off? --Peterdownunder (talk) 14:56, 19 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ahh, turn the lk= off, clever, I always wondered what that did. --Peterdownunder (talk) 15:30, 19 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, just wanted to mention that I've (finally) got round to responding to the comments that were left regarding the closure at the Jean Balukas PAD - apologies for my delay! Just wanted to let you know in case you'd given up all hope - I've been really busy IRL, not ignoring them! Cheers, Goblin 10:04, 23 June 2011 (UTC) I ♥ Jersey![reply]

I think BG's closing was inopportune, since three editors were working actively on it. We should do one of these things: a) revert the closing; b) re-propose as GA; c) propose as VGA. Macdonald-ross (talk) 14:02, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'd leave the closure alone, and, since the article easily passes GA criteria, I'd propose it as a VGA, where it shouldn't run into much difficulty. I agree the closure was inappropriate. Albacore (talk · changes) 17:52, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
As I've said elsewhere, there was no support for promotion. Now then, that's done and dusted, get on with it, renominate it for GA or VGA and make damned sure you get a bunch of interested people (which it looks like you have) to weigh in, deal with issues and support promotion. Easy. If you (or your comrades) don't like the way things work, make a community-wide stance and get a consensus to change things. This is, after all, a Wiki! The Rambling Man (talk) 18:41, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Saturn has now been renominated for a VGA, please support it. And thanks for the teamwork to get it done. --Peterdownunder (talk) 07:25, 4 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please look at Jean Balukas?[change source]

I finally got through all the small details long after the PAD closed. I hope that Jean Balukas can get back to GA status. The wiki could always use more GAs and VGAs. Your feedback would be helpful as the person who nominated it for demotion. If you have time. Thanks, Gotanda (talk) 23:26, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Re my signature[change source]

In response to this, Pmlineditor is right, that image was for that one edit. Second, the limit the software gives you for signatures in 255 characters, mine is 293. On my screen my sig is barely 3 lines, maybe you have a small screen? In short my signature in my opinion does not violate the length policy, but if you disagree feel free to ask around to see if others feel the same. In the meantime, I won't be changing it. Have a good day. CRRaysHead90 | We Believe! 14:24, 21 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Also we do have a sig policy here. CRRaysHead90 | We Believe! 16:36, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Which is probably why he commented...yours is 4 lines long...way too long. Which is why we suggest signatures be kept under 255 characters. (not just for technical reasons) -DJSasso (talk) 16:39, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The policy also allows you to go over a little, also it's only 3 on my screen. I've cut the fat on my sig and it's down to 278, only 13 over. The thing that pushes it over is the link to my contributions, which I use. So it's not gonna be able to get much smaller than that. CRRaysHead90 | We Believe! 16:59, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
This seems to be a case hair splitting. I see no real issue here, it's not like people moan at BG7 for his sig. fr33kman 22:22, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
BG's is actually a fair bit shorter than CRs. And many people do complain about his signature as well. -DJSasso (talk) 15:47, 27 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Other people exist; just because they have a sig possibly against our policy doesn't justify yours. Albacore (talk · changes) 20:38, 27 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
But see, that's the thing, my sig, doesn't violate policy. CRRaysHead90 | We Believe! 16:29, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
