WikiProject Weather

Thank you for creating WikiProject Weather! Would you like me to add this to WP:WikiProject? InfernoGaming46 (IG46) (talk / changes) 19:36, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

For sure! I'm use to WikiProjects on the normal English Wikipedia, but searching was bugged I guess because it never pulled up the WP:WikiProjects tab. Could the page be moved under a WikiProject page? Elijahandskip (talk) 19:38, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Here on simplewiki we have WikiProjects on userspaces. I was going to add your WikiProject to the list on WP:Wikiproject. InfernoGaming46 (IG46) (talk / changes) 19:40, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'd also like to inquire about the name and scope of the WikiProject. It is named Project Weather but from what it says now it only covers tornadoes. Will this be expanded in the future or should it be renamed to WikiProject Tornadoes? InfernoGaming46 (IG46) (talk / changes) 19:43, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes it will. I only had time to go through and list all the tornado articles for the present time, but later today, I'll go through the tropical cyclone lists and add them to it as well. Elijahandskip (talk) 19:59, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, I'll go ahead and add it to the list at WP:WikiProject. InfernoGaming46 (IG46) (talk / changes) 20:00, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

December 2023

Hello, WeatherWriter! Here at Simple English Wikipedia we use the section heading "Related pages" instead of English Wikipedia's "See also", which you used in "Blow Yamla and ChrisWx and WeatherWriter and EPIC up with drone strikes". This makes it simpler and easier to read. Please remember to use "Related pages" in articles that you create in the future. Thank you for your help! MathXplore (talk) 23:37, 30 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@MathXplore@MathXplore
Why the difference?
Partly just curious, but also having a story to it will help me remember.
Irtapil (talk) 15:32, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Irtapil, At Simple Wikipedia, we prefer "Related pages" over "See also" since it's simpler; We don't usually use those complex English Wikipedia terms here. Similarly, we use "Other websites" instead of "External links" to keep things easy to understand. – Cyber.Eyes2005Talk 15:43, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

January 2024

Hello, WeatherWriter! Here at Simple English Wikipedia, we use the section heading "Other websites" instead of English Wikipedia's "External links", which you used in "List of F5 and EF5 tornadoes". This makes it simpler and easier to read. Please remember to use "Other websites" in pages that you create in the future. Thank you for your help! MathXplore (talk) 14:04, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@MathXplore@MathXplore
That one makes sense, but it might be hard to remember.
Are any other sections different? (most of the articles I've seen here are stubs)
Is there a template of standard sections somewhere?

Quick deletion of Arleigh Burke-class destroyer

The page you wrote, Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, has been selected for quick deletion. If you think this page should be kept, please add {{wait}} below the line {{QD}} and say why on the talk page. If the page is already gone, but you think this was an error, you can ask for it to be undeleted. You can find more information about the reason here. Creating Talk pages

Hello and welcome to Simple Wikipedia, WeatherWriter! I noticed that you created several talk pages just to add a talk header {{talk page}}. Here at Simple English Wikipedia, we don't do that. You don't have to create talk pages only to place a talk header. Please see WP:TALK#CREATE. Thanks, and happy editing! :) – Cyber.Eyes2005Talk 16:18, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Complexity

Red Sea Crisis is far to complex. For example, look at this sentence, "The conflict began on 19 October 2023, when Yemen's Houthi movement, a group backed by Iran, initiated a series of attacks, targeting Southern Israel and the ships in the Red Sea it claimed were linked to Israel." Note how many phrases and clauses there are. We use simple subject verb object sentences here. Also, throughout the article, note complex vocabulary where simple words would do; initiate--start, amid--during. Remove passives and use active verb forms. It is good to cover all of these events, but the language should be simple. Thanks, --Gotanda (talk) 00:32, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Gotanda: I just worked to remove some of the complexity words. Can you do a re-assessment on the article? Thanks, WeatherWriter (talk) 01:21, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
To be honest, I stopped at the first sentence. Look at it and break down the sentence. Try simple, subject verb object sentences. Try not to use phrases and relative clauses, especially in combination. --Gotanda (talk) 06:23, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
How? Do I need to make that lead like 10 sentences? I guess I will since a simplistic sentence apparently is still to complex. One moment. WeatherWriter (talk) 06:25, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. I just broke the lead into a ton of small sentences. If you would be willing to help work with me, I would really appreciate if you could take a look at it again. WeatherWriter (talk) 06:29, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Simple sentences are better. Thanks. It would be a good idea to revisit your earlier articles and do likewise. It takes time to write simply. But, it can be a good writing practice. It is the point of this wiki. Readers can always find out more on EnWP if they want complex writing. --Gotanda (talk) 22:06, 21 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Topics

Does simple have the contentious topics enforcement?

Or is it independent?

Irtapil (talk) 12:03, 30 January 2024 (UTC) Irtapil (talk) 12:03, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Irtapil. Contentious topics are not in place here. WeatherWriter (talk) 13:58, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

User Space

Could I / Should I / How do I copy my very unsimple user space pages here?

Irtapil (talk) 12:04, 30 January 2024 (UTC) Irtapil (talk) 12:04, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Copy and paste would work. But, some of the templates (user boxes) may not actually copy/paste, if they have not been created over here. Your user page is fairly long, so a lot of the stuff may not actually “copy” over (i.e. not exist yet here). WeatherWriter (talk) 14:00, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@WeatherWriter Not so much for my profile, that's just a mess of me playing, I meant all my drafts and notes. Like the alt version of list of engagements. Which if I ever bother putting it here will be "events"... But events in what? English Wikipedia's name warpedtty, but Arabic and Hebrew wiki are both unusual.
