Why did you nominate my page for speedy deletion 173.66.190.105 (talk) 19:51, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Which page are you referring to? Bobherry Talk My Changes 19:53, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

RfD nomination of Template:Spam blanked[change source]

An editor has requested deletion of Template:Spam blanked, a page you created. We appreciate your changes, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article meets Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Please comment on the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2023/Template:Spam blanked and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also change the article during the discussion to address the nominator's concerns. But you should not remove the requests for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you very much. --Ferien (talk) 19:24, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Firstly,[change source]

We don't use templates against the regular users here. If you want to explain something to me, talk to me on my talk page, don't use templates. Secondly, nothing I have ever contributed here has been directly copied and pasted from enwiki. I use them as a template and simplfy. Sometimes that may mean an entire article is simplfyied sometimes only a few words. I see the page is still up so your QD didn't work and it's not at RfD either. I've been here long time, please treat me with some respect and assume good faith, fr33kman 23:26, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Being helpful[change source]

Is it helpful to add general tags to long pages? I'll answer that one: no, it's not helpful. Many pages could be improved. For example, Yellowstone National Park has taken a lot of work to get it where it is. There are two types of problem. One is that many users have not been there! It's quite hard to describe a geographic feature which is almost unique. The other is that published government sources are quite inadequate (that may be deliberate, of course).

What I'm saying is that drive-by flagging is not a help in improving articles. What can be helpful is identifying where improvements are specifically needed, and ideas and sources for that improvement.

That particular page is a good example of the limits of print as a communication system. It would be so much easier if we could combine the text with a film.

Macdonald-ross (talk) 08:03, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This is already a good article and was already reviewed by many users. I don't know why you think it needs more sources or copyediting, but you can explain the problems on the talk page. Kk.urban (talk) 15:15, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am sorry but I noticed grammar errors in it as well as unsourced sections. I know very well what a good article is. Bobherry Talk My Changes 15:51, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Bob. Just FYI, I fixed the setup of this page that you created. The maintenance categories for pages needing to be simplified are set up a little differently from the other maintenance categories. You can look at what I changed to see how they are done. I usually copy the setup from a previous one to get it right. -- Auntof6 (talk) 03:26, 1 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

DYK queues[change source]

Please move hooks from the holding area to Queue 7, not Queue 1. Queue 1 is the last queue before the main page, so moving new hooks there causes them to cut in line. QuicoleJR (talk) 17:13, 2 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Queue 2 is currently the next in line Queue 1 was recently moved to the main page so it must go through every queue before getting to Queue 1 again. Queue 1 won't be on the Main page for several months. @QuicoleJR: DYK is updated on the 1st and 16th by a bot. Because of this Queue 1 was empty and ready for new hooks in holding. Every T:DYK/Q is currently populated. Bobherry Talk My Changes 17:20, 2 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think you are misunderstanding how DYK works. I think you are thinking that Queue 1 always posts to the Main Page and then Queue 2 becomes queue 1 and so on. That is not how it works. Each queue has its own list and each time it updates it advanced forward. Queue 1 was just used and 2 will on the 16th then 3 on the 1st and so on. There is also rules about how the queue's should look. For example we don't want to much politics or to many things about the same country. Bobherry Talk My Changes 17:25, 2 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I misunderstood it. QuicoleJR (talk) 17:28, 2 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Fr33kman: Aye. I think the person could have just woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Something could have happened to them irl that we don't know about. They have 40 edits here and 150 on the enwiki. The account itself is over two years old. It's not like they are a new editor and it's their first day on Wikipedia. Bobherry Talk My Changes 22:16, 4 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly. I've always told other people and admins to remember that there is a real person on the other end of their keyboard, not an evil robot. I treat everyone with respect even if they insult me. 166.2.28.39[change source]

Cc @Fr33kman: I'm not convinced that 166.2.28.39 is an open proxy. Just because IPChecker says that IPQualityScore says that the IP belongs to the USDA, which it thinks is a proxy, doesn't necessarily make it so. It's more likely a shared IP used by the US government. This block is unnecessary in my opinion. — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 23:40, 14 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It is one I was iffy about. ProxyChecker show it as a VPN and Proxy but at the same time whois is returning it to the US Forest Service. However I have never seen a federal gov IP come back as a proxy which I thought was odd and possibly made up. Bobherry Talk My Changes 23:45, 14 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
https://ipinfo.io/AS4152/166.2.0.0/15-166.2.28.0/23 Bobherry Talk My Changes 23:49, 14 November 2023 (UTC) I would be okay with removing the block as I am not sure about it but like I said I have never seen a US Gov IP return as a VPN or a Proxy. Bobherry Talk My Changes 23:49, 14 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's not common, but it does happen. IPChecker is only one tool, and it doesn't tell you everything. There are other tools that you can use such as bullseye and stalktoy. When the results are not convincing, you should do more research instead of jumping to report the IP. Most of the time I'd just ignore unconvincing IPChecker results, especially if the edits are not abusive, if there's no abusive history from the address, and no other wiki blocks the IP for being an open proxy.
On other occasions IPChecker fails to identify obvious open proxies or compromised computers. — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 23:57, 14 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Got it. Thanks! Bobherry Talk My Changes 00:00, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for responding so late. I've done some checking on this IP address and I think you're right that it is more likely a shared IP address. I have removed the block. fr33kman 05:03, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
