A request on helping a new page

Hello Farien,

You recently placed a deletion request on the page I'm creating Josephs Quartzy (musician).

Can you please help me take a look at it and see if it contains required sources and it meets all the requirements please?..I think if not you can help me improve it because I'm really trying to make a great article?

Best Regards, (Wlovere (talk) 13:11, 2 May 2021 (UTC))[reply]

@Wlovere: Well, not that long ago (only a month ago) there was a request for deletion, see here. I don't think that he would have become more notable since then, and we should probably respect the consensus at the request for deletion by having the page deleted. Best regards, --Ferien (talk) 13:14, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

First I assure you to respect your decision and it's true I saw the deleted page but the editor could do was adding any link he found on his way, this entity was notable a way back and you can go and prove it all by yourself on the notability links I provided I think I made a great catch on lots of them and I gave all 17 if there's any unwanted link can be removed by you the admins. Wlovere (talk) 13:27, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Wlovere: At the RfD, it was decided that Josephs Quartzy was not notable. We should respect the consensus there and delete the page. Best regards, --Ferien (talk) 13:32, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I understand I'll be waiting for either responses from you and other admins(Wlovere (talk) 13:41, 2 May 2021 (UTC))[reply]

Just so you know I am not an admin. --Ferien (talk) 13:43, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Any idea

Do you have any idea about this: https://en.everybodywiki.com/Everybodywiki_bios_and_free_wiki_for_everybody Can I use my same user account in everybody wiki? Seems something strange from the general wiki world! Haoreima (talk) 18:35, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Haoreima: You'd have to register an everybodywiki account and then it can be used in all the othe everybodywiki wikis. However, this is not a Wikimedia project. Regards, --Ferien (talk) 18:38, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Barktwain77: When pages are moved, a redirect is left from the old page name to the new. I requested the redirect for deletion and the article you made is not affected. Best regards, --Ferien (talk) 18:51, 3 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How are my contributions so far?

As stated on my user page, I am trying to gain community trust on Enwiki and I want to do the right thing. So I wonder how my contributions have been so far? Thank you! SoyokoAnis - talk 21:40, 3 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@SoyokoAnis: You have been a pretty good editor here so far, helping with creating articles and fixing typos. One thing though: you'll noticed I reverted your edit on FBG Duck as you removed the RfD. Please do not remove the RfD until it is closed. Thanks, and happy editing! --Ferien (talk) 14:54, 4 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

LAST WARNING DO NOT PUT QD TEMPLATES ON ANY MORE Pages — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:444:201:9E70:1C28:36AE:D4E0:705A (talkcontribs) 14:11, 4 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You didn't use an actual warning template. And QD templates are supposed to go on those pages. SoyokoAnis - talk 14:44, 4 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@2601:444:201:9E70:1C28:36AE:D4E0:705A: I am not sure what you're referring to. I accidentally rollbacked your edit adding a QD as mobile Wikipedia is a pain to use. Also, why did you sign as a different IP? I'm not sure what benefit this can give you... --Ferien (talk) 14:57, 4 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
In case you didn't know, there's an option that makes you confirm that you want to do a rollback. In your preferences/settings, it's on the gadgets tab, Browsing gadgets section, labelled "Require confirmation before performing rollback on mobile devices". It's very helpful for working on mobile devices — guess how I know! --Auntof6 (talk) 21:03, 4 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I thought I enabled that... but I didn't, lol... Thanks for reminding me! :) --Ferien (talk) 21:05, 4 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A request

Hello Pal! en:Puya Meithaba ( Burning of Puya ) (equivalent of simple:Puya Mei Thaba) is about to get deleted. It has actually broken some wiki guidelines, it's created by User:Luwanglinux. Could you please advise him in good faith what's right and what's wrong? You can even perform tps in the discussion page of en:Talk:History of Manipur. Actually, good references are available in this very simple English equivalent article. Haoreima (talk) 08:24, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) @Haoreima: You might not know, but "tps" stands for "talk page stalker". It refers to times when someone leaves a message on a user talk page, but a different person answers it. It's what I'm doing right now; you left a message on Ferien's talk page, but I am making a comment on it even though you didn't ask me and this isn't my talk page. Using the {{tps}} template is a way of saying that I know I'm possibly being a little rude by responding to a message that was left for someone else on someone else's talk page. Therefore, tps doesn't apply to article talk pages (like the one you mentioned above), because anyone is entitled to comment on those. --Auntof6 (talk) 11:40, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Auntof6: Learning the fact for the first time from you, thank you, Auntof6! Well, there's an active discussion going on. In fact, a war is being fought in the article's talk page. And I wish a peaceful end through understanding. Haoreima (talk) 12:22, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Haoreima: Luwanglinux seems to have already been advised and unfortunately, he has been blocked over there for a week for edit warring. And, as I don't really know what was going on over there, it probably isn't best for me to step in. Regards, --Ferien (talk) 15:25, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Haoreima: And besides what Ferien said, since you are blocked on enwiki, you aren't supposed to be asking people to do things there. Ferien could get into trouble for doing things there for you. --Auntof6 (talk) 16:51, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Haoreima Thank for your concern but its ok I will follow wikipedia procedure and do whatever is good for that article after one week , I am able to read Ray Sohini journal about Manipur through jstor too Luwanglinux (talk) 18:14, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Ferien: Apologies to you if my plan turns out to be a trouble for your user account's reputation as Auntof6 said. But, my real intention is just for the betterment of wikipedia articles and wikipedia users. Haoreima (talk) 03:06, 7 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of The Speedy Deletion Tag Request

Hello Ferien, I respect your decision entirely but please do not delete this article as I am an online freelancer and I am being paid to write this article on Simple Wikipedia. I hope you understand me and thank you for your help in advance.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 2605:6440:4002:0:0:0:0:2F6A (talkcontribs) 16:50, 8 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@2605:6440:4002:0:0:0:0:2F6A: so you are making me think that requesting the article for deletion definitely was a good idea. See conflicts of interest. If you have one, it's best not to edit the article. The article sounds really promotional, which is why I requested it for deletion. --Ferien (talk) 16:57, 8 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Ferien (talk), I tried my best to keep the article neutral by excluding all the superlative adjectives, adding as much neutral words as possible and only keeping facts which I could verify. I also did not add any boasting words such as 'best of the best' and etc to keep the tone formative. It would be appreciated by me if you could please delete the speedy deletion request. Thank you for understanding my point of view.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 2605:6440:3002:0:0:0:2:14B (talkcontribs) 17:20, 8 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there!

Hey there! I decided to WP:DENY removing the vandalism that is on WP:VIP as edit warring isn’t the best idea. CoolGuyRonnie Talk 16:25, 10 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

One of the key parts of WP:DENY is Do not talk about them on your user page but I just simplify that to Do not talk about them unless it's really important. --Ferien (talk) 16:54, 10 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Loading two Wikipedia tabs (recent changes and editing this talk page) uses about 850MB of RAM. So 768MB should just about load a webpage. And also, I'd guess you'd be using the mobile version which is lighter than the desktop version I believe. --Ferien (talk) 20:25, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Vandal talk pages

I don't think I have any policy or guideline to base this on, other then maybe WP:DENY, but it might save you some headache to just not revert already blocked ips vandalizing their own talk pages. An admin will most likely eventually revoke talk page access, and they're not harming any content. Reverting them might just egg them on. Im not saying to stop outright, just something to think about. Might be better to just let them run out of steam on their own page until an admin gets to them. --Gordonrox24 | Talk 19:57, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, apologies, I stopped reverting a few minutes ago. With this editor I generally revert a few times and then stop. Sometimes they revert as soon as I revert, sometimes they don't revert at all. --Ferien (talk) 20:02, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Please see my response at User talk:Eptalon/Archive 20#Urgent. PotsdamLamb (talk) 20:05, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Still, I think WP:DENY applies. They are trying to disrupt the project and have been for many years. --Ferien (talk) 20:07, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes which is why they only got a final warning so it was in place for me to ask for the block :) PotsdamLamb (talk) 20:09, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
But just so you know for future, this editor is WMF-banned. No warnings are required; you can ask stewards for a global lock/block right away when seeing this particular editor. --Ferien (talk) 20:11, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
FYI - Eptalon did revoke TP access; also Ferien, the IP did not create any content. He just vandalized a crapload of pages that I was able to revert all of them I believe including others talk pages. PotsdamLamb (talk) 20:08, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Thank you for creating Category:Establishments in Austria by year. However, we normally need at least three pages in a category before it is created. Because categories are a way to group together similar articles, there is no need to create a new category for just one or two articles. If you think there might be more pages to add to the new category, please add them now. Thank you. Auntof6 (talk) 04:17, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It is annoying when we lose a constructive contributor, but they were blocked for socking which they have not denied. I think they know that this is not allowed. --Ferien (talk) 15:25, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) What do you mean "know that this is not allowed"? Darubrub (Let me know) 15:26, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Lights and freedom reverted vandalism on a pretty regular basis and they must have seen the WP:SOCK page at least once. I meant they knew that this is not allowed not know. --Ferien (talk) 15:30, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

RIP Lights and freedom (19 January 2020 - 20 May 2021) C4Bomb2024 Talk 16:22, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) What happens to their Wikiproject now? --Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 20:14, 22 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I assume it will just continue as normal. I don't think there's any need to move it, the WikiProject can continue. WikiProjects are about collaboration and there don't have to be "leaders". --Ferien2 (talk) 20:18, 22 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I think it's the same too. My Wikiprojects, I allow anyone to change what they want. :-) Though I've seen a Wikiproject where they ask you to not touch some things, would that cause a problem, but depending on the situation, I don't think it does in that particular situation I've seen --Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 22:21, 22 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I think the wikiproject can continue on without Lights and freedom "leading". We can continue it there like we continue relatively active wikiprojects where the creator has retired :) --Ferien2 (talk) 08:45, 23 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yo

Hello, Ferien. You have a new email! Please check it at your convenience.
You can take off this notice at any time by removing the {{You've got mail}} or {{YGM}} template.
@PotsdamLamb: Sorry there will be a bit of a delay with this as I can’t currently access my mail. --Ferien2 (talk) 18:12, 22 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Archives

I think your archives are broken! PotsdamLamb (talk) 19:46, 22 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@PotsdamLamb: They seem to work but I think they are getting rather big. Maybe I will reconsider my archive system some time again at the end of the year. --Ferien2 (talk) 19:51, 22 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If you look at my page, User_talk:PotsdamLamb it may help you as I noticed you are missing some coding you should have there. :) --PotsdamLamb (talk) 19:58, 22 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, as in the automatic archiving. I have disabled that on purpose, I archive it all at the end of the month. --Ferien2 (talk) 20:00, 22 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Auto is better and you can set it to a different number, I have mine at three. Your page says three as well :) PotsdamLamb (talk) 20:26, 22 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I prefer archiving it at the end of the month though, I like my talk page having several topics there. I feel like it is more inviting for someone leaving a message. Thanks for trying to help though :) --Ferien2 (talk) 21:17, 22 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Chenzw

Hi there. I don’t know why Chenzw isn’t editing here now for like 2 months. C4Bomb2024 Talk 19:36, 23 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@C4Bomb2024: As another example, Lofty abyss hasn't edited in nearly 3.
It's perfectly normal and acceptable for someone, even an administrator, to stop editing here for a couple of months or more. After all, everyone here is a volunteer. No-one is under any obligation to edit here. --Ferien (talk) 19:46, 23 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Vaccine

Hello pal! Are you vaccinated for COVID-19? For me, I have done today. It's too late but I am lucky because in my country, the government is unable to provide it sufficiently to public. Many lives from my locality are claimed, so suddenly worried about you. Haoreima (talk) 15:45, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Haoreima: I am under 18 so I am not, at least currently, being vaccinated for COVID-19. However, most of the British population have now received a vaccination, I believe over 60,000,000 now. --Ferien (talk) 15:49, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
How old are you? I am 19. Haoreima (talk) 15:51, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Haoreima: I don't really see a need to reveal my age on Wikipedia. I am here to build an encyclopedia after all and so I prefer giving as little information about myself as possible here.
However, regarding the vaccine, it looks like under 18s may be able to get a vaccine sometime late this year if this research suggests that it is safe for them to have the jab: https://www.lbc.co.uk/news/explained/will-children-get-a-covid-19-vaccine/ --Ferien (talk) 16:00, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

warnings

How come we're not sending warnings to long-term abusers on Simple English Wikipedia? Angela Kate Maureen 19:45, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Tropical Storm Angela: Mainly because I find it makes things worse and also this particular editor is WMF-banned and they have been warned multiple times over the 15 years since he created his account. If you want the LTA page it's w:WP:LTA/GRP. --Ferien (talk) 19:47, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I almost wonder if it would be useful to have a template saying something like "this IP is a long-term abuser; no warnings are needed, and may be blocked on sight" -- or equivalent. That way people unfamiliar with the person wouldn't waste time leaving warnings. Optional parameters in the template would include putting a link to an LTA page. Antandrus (talk) 19:49, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I might make it in userspace sometime as I am having to explain to quite a few people. --Ferien (talk) 19:50, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Another possibility of course is just writing a single line -- "This is w:WP:LTA/GRP; block this IP asap". Or something. But a template would save five seconds I suppose. Antandrus (talk) 19:51, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've just made one: User:Ferien/Warnings/Banned. Feel free to change it if you want. I don't have much knowledge on templates but I think this is ok. --Ferien (talk) 20:12, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
How can editors tell whether or not a Simple English Wikipedia editor is a longterm abuser? Angela Kate Maureen 20:15, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Behaviour is the main way you can tell. I'll send you some diffs via email of this particular LTA. And there aren't many long-term abusers around simple, only a few. --Ferien (talk) 20:19, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Assistance

Hello Ferien, I saw you assisted with a vandalism problem on Verdis. There is an angry user requesting removal of the article on Talk:Verdis, can this possibly be responded to? I am still new to Wikipedia. From the research I've looked at, the user is continuously getting in conflicts on English Wikipedia and Dutch Wikipedia, and is largely biased. He claims rtl.hr and telex.hu are not large enough sources. What's your thoughts? BrodieMan201 (talk) 00:20, 26 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @BrodieMan201: There was a consensus on the English Wikipedia to delete the article, see here and so we could start an RfD (Request for Deletion) if that user thinks that the "Free Republic of Verdis" doesn't deserve an article here. --Ferien (talk) 05:48, 26 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The consensus was resolved to switch Verdis back to a redirect on English Wikipedia. This user seems to continuously be angry and causing conflicts claiming that the micronation is a hoax since it was founded by a kid, but micronations aren't meant to be taken seriously anyway. 180.150.39.49 (talk) 06:08, 26 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. Shouldn't be removed just because of an old man's bias and disagreement about a state's views. BrodieMan201 (talk) 06:10, 26 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@BrodieMan201: Actually, the page is currently deleted with no redirect, and protected with create protected (only admins can create it). There has obviously been a lot of recreations despite the consensus. --Ferien (talk) 06:14, 26 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I just took a look and from what I can see in logs, the redirect was accepted before the most recent deletion but was deleted upon the page's creators block for something. BrodieMan201 (talk) 06:40, 26 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@BrodieMan201: The most recent XFD's consensus was to delete. I have asked The Banner whether an RfD here would be appropriate. --Ferien (talk) 18:21, 26 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Dude

I was just playing with the templates. Again, give me a freaking chance to reverse it and stop jumping on top of everything the moment I do it. It’s starting to get annoying. PotsdamLamb (talk) 07:28, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Playing with the templates is doing an editing test and tests shouldn't be made on recently active IPs who are blocked. It still gives them the notification on their talk page and it also may confuse them that testing is done on their talk page. For testing, as you know, you can use the sandbox or warn an IP that cannot edit, like the one on the VIP header. You don't need to do it on an active IP address, that's just testing editing which as you know, should not be outside of the sandbox. --Ferien (talk) 10:26, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wikibreak header

"28 April to 4 May" did you mean "28 May to 4 June"? Darubrub (Let me know) 14:38, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, oops lol, I was too tired. Thanks! --Ferien (talk) 14:39, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

Thank you for the warm welcome! I will have to get used to the absence of RedWarn, but with Twinkle, I will manage! Hockeycatcat (talk) 05:18, 28 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Hockeycatcat: No problem for the welcome, I have seen you around on enwiki. Some users have copied RedWarn from enwiki (as an example, see User:JJPMaster/RedWarn.js) However, I find Twinkle is all that's really necessary over here. Kind regards, --Ferien (talk) 17:16, 28 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

WP:Deny

While I do understand the concept, it has been stated over and over that warnings need to be present for an admin to take action. This is a direct quote for an ip user who was vandalizing Canada

“Warned user. Please leave warnings before reporting here. Auntof6 (talk) 05:33, 30 May 2021 (UTC)”

Not everyone knows all the tell tell signs of these people but generally their talk pages should not be cleared out especially with warnings as when/if they come back, we have the instant reference and do not need to shuffle through their contribution history to see what happened. I AGF roll backed your blanking of the IP talk page. Thanks! PotsdamLamb (talk) 10:16, 30 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@PotsdamLamb: When someone says "I like vandalism!" or "I want a block" on many talk pages, it's quite obvious that they are looking to be blocked or to cause harm. This has been going on for over 12 years. The warnings are designed to stop the user, not to become a way of counting reverts. Also this user is banned by the community and they're evading their ban so they can be blocked without warning.
Warnings are not required anyway, they are just preferred. See this part of the Wikipedia:Blocks and bans policy: However, administrators can block a user at any time if they are abusing Wikipedia on purpose or going against other policies. Going on user talk pages and saying "I like vandalism!" is clearly abusing Wikipedia on purpose.
And finally, I know that looking at user talk warnings is easier than looking a little at users' contributions but administrators should be checking reports pretty thoroughly before taking action. Regards, --Ferien (talk) 14:26, 30 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I am aware of all of that, but I am looking at from the user standpoint, not the admin standpoint or what admins should and should not be doing. Since IPs will be eventually unblocked (for the most part) the warnings should stay on the page, so that way there is the history. Now if the user wipes the page, that is a different story, as they don't get pages anyways. This is my opinion. PotsdamLamb (talk) 15:36, 30 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@PotsdamLamb: Sure, I understand if the user, instead of the IP, wipes the page then it is a little different. Although, the IPs don't need to even see those old warnings for the history as it is designed for the person vandalising not everyone on the IP. On enwiki, editors sometimes go through and replace ancient talk page messages with {{OW}} as they don't need to be seen anymore. I just blank them as there's no need for the warnings to be there and it is just giving the vandal the attention they want. I should probably replace them with {{OW}} instead, for transparency/history... Regards, --Ferien (talk) 15:46, 30 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I think that would work better. :) BTW, you added that box to the RfD. I created the minimum necessary to tag the users as we didn't have them. :) PotsdamLamb (talk) 15:48, 30 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@PotsdamLamb: I added it because it had got three keep !votes with basically no reason. A keep !vote with explanation would be much more helpful than a keep !vote with none... Regards, :) --Ferien (talk) 16:10, 30 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Empty cleanup categories

Just thought I would let you know those pages QD themselves when they are emptied. You don't need to put a tag on them. -Djsasso (talk) 17:04, 31 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Djsasso: Actually, they don't seem to go into quick deletion requests automatically even though they are empty, although it may be an issue on my side. --Ferien (talk) 17:06, 31 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It is almost definitely caching on your side. Though it could also be the job queue hadn't put them there yet. I regularly delete them from the cat so I know they usually work. -Djsasso (talk) 17:07, 31 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oh ok, I was just noticing categories from a few years ago that had the deletion request on them still. Although, it could be the case that the categories were cleared relatively recently. Putting the QD tag seems to put them in CAT:QD immediately after but the automatic one doesn't, at least for me anyway... --Ferien (talk) 17:10, 31 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
