Greetings -- thank you for the welcome. I'm a long-time (10+ years) contributor at en: and may edit here from time to time. I'll look around a bit to see what the 'house style' is first, i.e before inadvertently burying something formerly comprehensible under a heap of pompous polysyllabicity. All the best, Antandrus (talk) 20:16, 31 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This should be in meta wiki? Nigos (talk · contribs) 12:46, 7 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, hi. I think I am starting to understand what is going on. There are two deranged editors ("Wikinger" and "Projects"/GRP) and one is partly copying the other's style. Yeah, will probably need page protection. Thanks -- Antandrus (talk) 14:02, 7 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

a question

[change source]

i see from your userpage that you edit on enwiki more than here. do you only edit here to take care of that one guy and make article edits on the side? or do you mainly focus on article edits. i am not trying to accuse you of anything i just ask to collect some data and possibly nominate an active editor for admin. Computer Fizz (talk) 19:57, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Honestly -- I probably started here by chasing various vandals -- this one guy (the "George Reeves Person", banned by the WMF) has been harassing us for more than 13 years (!!!) and I guess I'm an unintended "specialist" in dealing with him. I haven't done too many article edits on simple; I'm not really sure what the appropriate level of "simplicity" needs to be. I'm mainly an article creator on en: and an administrator there, but I don't do as much as I used to. Thanks for helping out with that. (He loves to make all-caps threats, but -- they're just like a dog barking through the neighbor's fence.) Antandrus (talk) 20:02, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The I. P

[change source]

HiAntandrus, the allegations this IP is making are quite heavy, to the extent of rape. Shouldn't you make a police report on cyber bullying? --DJ ( - ) 20:47, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Just a heads up: I have rolled back this page to before george posted and manually restored this post. Just thought i should say incase it now makes this inapplicable. Computer Fizz (talk) 20:53, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
thanks Computer Fizz -- (here's my original response to Razor) -- Yeah -- the police need to know. He lives in Chicago. He spent almost three years in jail for exactly this, but clearly hasn't learned. He uses a service to mask his IP.
I've done a bit of research on him. Had to, back when he first started making threats. Don't want to say too much publicly, but -- it's just a matter of time until he's back in Cook County jail. Antandrus (talk) 20:55, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, just one other thing -- he projects in the most literal way -- accusations he makes of others are, almost without exception, and in disturbing detail, things he is actually doing himself. Including the literal wording of legal charges. Anyway enough. :) Have to do some other things today. Cheers, Antandrus (talk) 20:57, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@RazorTheDJ: That person had made the same allegations on my talk page on commons against another admin, although it has been suppressed from the page history. Nigos (talk · contribs) 11:20, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Just to clarify... is that person Wikinger? Nigos (talk · contribs) 11:30, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Nigos: I think he was called Ljupco something. but i read that page and a lot of the abuse matches in very big detail so maybe i'm wrong. Computer Fizz (talk) 13:07, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I think Wikinger and Ljupco are the same person, although a globally banned user usually "helps" him out. Nigos (talk · contribs) 13:13, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The George Reeves Person (this guy we are talking about) lives in Chicago; as far as I know Wikinger lives in Poland. They're different. Wikinger copycats GRP sometimes (he copies and pastes previous GRP rants so they look genuine). They have different obsessions. See the LTA page on Wikinger (that you linked above). I am thinking of starting a new LTA page on the GRP, just so I can link it rather than explaining anew each time. Antandrus (talk) 14:19, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

┌──────────────────────────┘
Does GRP have a "primary" username? Computer Fizz (talk) 15:44, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Yep - he's this guy. We've usually called him the "George Reeves Person" but he has gone by lots of different names over the years - Gogi, Goran, George, Freddy, Vesa, BoxingWear, Ljupco, Jan, ... He pretends to be a lot of different people, members of a "chess club", and he's been weirdly consistent with these names going all the way back to 2005. When he harasses people over the phone (he will do that if he gets your number) he even imitates their voices. Antandrus (talk) 15:55, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
So this guy is just but a wannabee?🤣.We should totally suppress this idle guy,Simplewiki is not a haven of crooks, it's a relatively happy community. Mockery, blocks from the admins will be a good way to silence him even though not entirely --DJ ( - ) 17:57, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
He will never be a good editor. Just won't happen. I'm thinking that just blocking, reverting, ignoring is the way forward. I have tried engaging with him recently, trying to talk to him, but it isn't working.
Indeed -- this is a relatively happy community -- keep it that way :) Antandrus (talk) 18:03, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
i haven't been interacting with him at all just reverting, and it seems to be working for the most part. he kept telling me to "check my email", and, i got his email i just didn't reply. Computer Fizz (talk) 18:56, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Check outthis, now he claims he is (us). I think its more of a mental issue. It looks like he has a legion of hooligans in his brain --DJ ( - ) 23:12, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Lol.
"Legion of hooligans in his brain" is maybe the most perfect phrase I have seen -- ever -- to describe his mental illness. I feel for him; I do. He suffers. I wish he would get help, but I don't think he has the means. What he writes describes, with uncanny accuracy, what he does to others, and has done since early 2006.
I have some of his court records, and know a lot more than I am letting on here. Peace and happiness, and may simplewiki continue to be a welcoming place. Antandrus (talk) 23:27, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@RazorTheDJ: I removed his comments on your talk page. Just ignore his rants, as he's WMF-banned anyway. Nigos (talk · contribs) 23:36, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I don’t think he would waste money to annoy users over the phone, especially if they live outside the US. Why would he spend 1 dollar a minute to annoy users for 10 minutes? Nigos (talk · contribs) 00:15, 24 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

┌──────────────────────────┘
he totally would though. Computer Fizz (talk) 01:01, 25 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I only know of him doing that with people in the US (probably shouldn't name them...) That's how I got the first break in figuring out who he was; he left his phone number unblocked once, and the person he was harassing gave me details. Antandrus (talk) 01:09, 25 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

password reset

[change source]

Has anyone else getting password reset emails from his IP addresses? Also, is he actually trying to hijack our accounts or just sending them to be annoying? Computer Fizz (talk) 02:46, 19 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, he does that all the time. He does both -- to be annoying, and he also tries to guess people's passwords.
Ljupco, if you are reading this, you haven't sent me a password reset yet today. I told you to do it every day. No exceptions. You know the rules, now get to it. Antandrus (talk) 02:50, 19 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I've only gotten two so far. Maybe i'm lucky.
I am gonna add a fabricator to prevent ips who are blocked from sending password resets. Computer Fizz (talk) 03:02, 19 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That's a really bad idea. Vermont (talk) 03:46, 19 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yea, me too. He has been sending password resets from IP addresses in Poland, Bhutan, and many other countries. Probably a VPN. Preventing blocked IPs from sending password resets is useless as the IPs sending them may not have even edited, so they haven’t been blocked. Nigos (talk · contribs) 06:42, 19 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
After having reverted his edits, I can also confirm that I've received password resets from strange IP addresses. Reception123 (talk) 06:44, 19 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that won’t stop unless there is an official order to prevent him from doing that. Nigos (talk · contribs) 06:45, 19 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Same here, twice.  — FR 06:46, 19 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Computer Fizz, This already happens. MediaWiki already disallows Password reset requests from blocked IP addresses. GRP used another different IP address to send the password reset request.  — FR 07:15, 19 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I"m a little worried this person is going to harm someone IRL. He's outta control. Antandrus (talk) 13:41, 19 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
He's also sending me the ip reset mails, he's junk and a mental retard,, stupid guy--DJ ( - ) 21:28, 20 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Don't call others that... Nigos (talk · contribs) 09:28, 21 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

did you ever made that project page about grp?

[change source]

i want to link exam to it. Laptop Fizz (talk) 00:48, 22 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't done it, yet -- kind of on the fence, between WP:DENY and being able to alert other people to what this person's problem is. Antandrus (talk) 00:52, 22 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
if you want to honor WP:DENY why do you keep leaving messages on his talk page then? either way, i think the project page is important for other editors to know. Laptop Fizz (talk) 00:56, 22 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
You are correct: I need to stop doing that. I keep saying I will, ... it's just so damn tempting. So.... I will stop stop stop stop. :) Antandrus (talk) 01:06, 22 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Antandrus: so did you make up your mind about it? if not, i'm probably going to makeit. Computer Fizz (talk) 22:32, 10 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I've been hedging. Probably should write it up, since he's clearly not stopping. notice who deleted it in 2006. But a lot of time has gone by. It should be worded carefully, with advice for how to handle this, ... person. Antandrus (talk) 23:40, 10 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Ooh i see even jimbo has gotten involved with this nonsensery. Well i have been needing to link at certain places, so hopefully it could be sometime within the next week please? it'd also be good to use the talk page for such discussion about grp. Computer Fizz (talk) 23:59, 10 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yup, I think it's time. Talking about it now here. I think in the cases where we have a truly volcanic spew of fuckwittery we need a central place we can link. Antandrus (talk) 00:55, 11 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

┌───────────────────────┘
Can it be on the simple english wikipedia? Computer Fizz (talk) 02:32, 11 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Don't know -- are there LTA pages here? I just started a draft in my userspace on en. I'm going to need to link to it from all over Wikimedia, so I'd rather keep it on a project where I'm an administrator. But I would think you could copy it over. Antandrus (talk) 02:45, 11 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I would strongly suggest that ignoring is the best policy, the more time and effort we spend the better it is for him, having a page about his actions is just a trophy. Simply delete, and block on sight.--Peterdownunder (talk) 05:57, 11 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
There aren't currently LTA pages here. But if there's enough of a reason for it, maybe it's time to makesome. simple won't stay small forever.
And about thatpeter, while RBI is a good strategy forinteraction with him, there's gotta be a reason en makesthem. I disagree it's a bad idea to make it, I've needed to postit several times. Computer Fizz (talk) 06:48, 11 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
User:Vermont/Reports. Steriev isn't on there for DENY reasons. Vermont (talk) 11:12, 11 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Personally I find making them usually causes the editors to end up doing more vandalism. GRP is a bit of a different case as he is nutty. But in general prior to Vermont creating pages we generally didn't create them here because we found doing so caused the editors to stick around and vandalize more here whereas if we just RBI'd they would return to the en.wiki and focus on that. -DJSasso (talk) 11:23, 11 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Good points, everybody. Thanks. Holding off for now. Antandrus (talk) 13:56, 11 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

WIKInger

[change source]

Are they an LTA, or is it just a trick by Wikinger? Nigos (talk · contribs) 06:33, 25 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure I know what you mean - Wikinger is this guy. He lives in Poland; he's the one who vandalizes Jimbo's pages and babbles about Greek letters. But he also pretends to be the George Reeves guy. GRP (George Reeves guy, Projects, George, Ljupco, Gogi, Jan, all the other things he calls himself and we call him) lives in the US, and seems to think that we are trolling him with all the Wikinger copycatting. Antandrus (talk) 13:40, 25 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I meant that there’s an account on the German Wikipedia called WIKInger, and Wikinger keeps on linking their user page when they (Wikinger) tries to annoy us. Nigos (talk · contribs) 22:22, 25 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Oh! I don't know. Doesn't really look like him, e.g. this stuff. Antandrus (talk) 22:27, 25 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. But is the guy spamming us on the German Wikipedia (on your talk page) also him? They tried to annoy me by putting racist words on my (already) user page there. Is it also him? Nigos (talk · contribs) 12:31, 27 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That is Wikinger - quite sure. Antandrus (talk) 13:49, 27 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Nigos (talk · contribs) 00:29, 28 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
He reverted his own edit for some reason and antandrus just added a new line? Computer Fizz (talk) 20:26, 14 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't want him to have the most recent edit - then everyone wastes their time investigating - adding a useless space is the easiest way to make a null edit that I know. Antandrus (talk) 20:31, 14 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Come to think of it, that's a good feature request for Mediawiki - allow rollback to leave a null edit in such cases. Antandrus (talk) 20:33, 14 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

┌──────────────────────────┘
yea sometimes i end up screaming ARG WHY I CANT ROLLBACK THIS EDIT and oh , it's null. although i do wonder if there'd be like 30 nulls stacked up on top of each other. Computer Fizz (talk) 20:34, 14 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

can i nominate you for admin

[change source]

you need it Computer Fizz (talk) 20:16, 3 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I would need to do more actual work here, rather than just vandalism reverts .. but thanks.
If I start doing some serious article work, then I'd probably take you up on that :) Antandrus (talk) 20:18, 3 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I kinda disagree because vandalism damage control is kind of an admin's main job...but I guess you're the target so I can't really argue on that. let me know if you change your mind though Computer Fizz (talk) 20:20, 3 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

That’s GRP... Using his account on some other wiki, he said that he hated it. Nigos (talk · contribs) 23:33, 12 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Removing your edit

[change source]

Sorry I reverted your edit to Talk:Dog fighting. I put it back now. RPBG 💬 🖊 17:16, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

No worries! I was kind of laughing. This reminds me of a comedy routine. Ljupco even put back the correct version inadvertently. Antandrus (talk) 17:17, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds funny. I think I should be awarded for removing the vandalism. Not boasting about it but...you know. RPBG 💬 🖊 17:20, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I wish we'd be paid by edit. Can you imagine? Regular vandals, a dollar for a removal. WMF-banned users, five dollars. Convicted felons, ten. Etc. :) Antandrus (talk) 17:21, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Are you going to take care of it after your recent diff? Darubrub (Let me know) 17:32, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have admin tools here - I think we need to wait for someone who does to show up. (Does this wiki have enough admins? Not sure.) Antandrus (talk) 17:33, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Although edit warring is not the best idea. Have a look at Special:RecentChanges, Talk:Dog fighting is kind of filling it up. And he has been using the same IP the entire time. Pinging involved @RPBG and Darubrub:. He will probably end up reverting until it's protected or deleted so reverting it now or in a few minutes will just end up in your edit being reverted - but reverting it now will just fill up recent changes, as he will revert immediately after. --Ferien (talk) 17:51, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Ferien: Ok then. I just like helping out with the vandalism, even though edit warring isn’t a good idea. RPBG 💬 🖊 17:54, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Ferien: Ok then. None of the admins are online now so now what? Darubrub (Let me know) 17:54, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Darubrub: We just wait for the admins to come online. They can block the IP involved, delete the pages or do whatever action they feel necessary. --Ferien (talk) 17:59, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

George Reeves

[change source]

I have semi-protected George Reeves. However, please note that your reverts on the page constituted an edit war. I decided not to block any of the users involved at this point, but you may end up being blocked if you do the same again. If a case like this comes up again, just stop reverting, warn the user(s), and report at VIP after sufficient warnings. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 02:25, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Reverting edits by a user banned by the Wikimedia Foundation -- from editing on all Wikimedia projects -- is an edit war? Seriously?
He's banned for multiple reasons, including inserting his original research and rather crazy theories into articles, but also for years and years of unceasing harassment of our volunteers. He does not stop, and will not stop until he is back in jail again for his stalking. Antandrus (talk) 02:30, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thinking about this some more, I am wondering -- when a project (in this case Simple) has no administrators around, is it more damaging to 1) leave the article in a vandalized state, or 2) flood recent changes (and article history) with reverts? On enwiki, I'm an admin so I just block this guy and protect the article. I can understand not wanting 2). But it goes against my instinct as a long-term Wikipedian to allow 1). -- But is there a way to get intervention if no admins are around? Does Simple allow global sysops? @Vermont:, do you know? I had noticed in the past that often Simple has no admins active, and vandals often get reverted dozens of times before anything happens. Antandrus (talk) 03:10, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I believe the idea of global sysops here has been declined in the past. Sometimes people have asked stewards to intervene. I'm not sure I agree that the changes were vandalism, though, if we're talking about the changes related to Reeves' death. Some may not agree with them, but neither version had any sources. In addition, enwiki has the same information that the IPs were adding, and it's sourced. --Auntof6 (talk) 03:39, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Auntof6: Note that GRP will often add links to doxxing and harassment sites in edit summaries or page content, and these need oversight. They will also add Wikipedia diffs as "references", which should be reverted anyway. For example, this edit summary should be suppressed. MarioGom (talk) 07:40, 20 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
To be honest, I don't care if he goes onto another site and then pastes links there, but he sometimes pasts links even within WMF projects. SHB2000 (talk) 08:54, 20 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

To clarify: Antandrus, we do not allow global sysops to take actions on this project. With medium to large content projects, it's very easy for a global sysop to accidentally do more harm than good. And I am speaking as a global sysop. The lack of active administrators can be fixed; we have a relatively new batch of active editors, a handful of which I would love to nominate for adminship, if they would accept. And Auntof6, you have recognized in the past that you have a difficult time identifying long-term vandals. The editor Antandrus was reverting is the longest-term vandal and harasser we have here, and is banned by the WMF. The validity of the changes are independent of their author. Best, Vermont (talk) 14:50, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Classical music articles

Hello! As you have done a lot of work on classical music articles in the English Wikipedia, I hope that you can lend me a hand with editing the classical music articles here. I have a few projects I'm working on. I've been drafting an article for J.A. Hasse, and I'm having trouble trying to make sense his travels, as he travelled a lot. I'm also thinking of expanding the articles about the Benda brothers. Thanks in advance :) — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 12:42, 17 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there Fehufanga. Maybe one way I can help is to review an article after you have drafted it. Let me know any time you have one ready. If you have specific questions about anything (like Hasse's travels) I may be able to help clarify. -- I have not done a lot of writing on Simple: to be honest it's unclear to me just how to balance the desire for simple words versus precision, since all those lovely non-simple words in English exist in order to enhance precision. But I'm willing to help. :) Antandrus (talk) 18:00, 17 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Just quickly reviewing your draft of Hasse, I think you are doing an excellent job. Your writing is clear and easy to read. I like the short-sentences approach to "simple English"; that may be easier for an English-language learner to navigate than, say, long sentences with overly simple words. Antandrus (talk) 18:03, 17 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! I decided to trim out the minutiæ about his travels. It's the back-and-forth between Venice, Naples and Dresden that makes it all confusing. I don't think it'd be that useful anyway to write something like "He went to Venice in 1730, then to Dresden in 1731. Then he went to Vienna a few times. ..."
On a slightly unrelated note, how would you explain what musical temperament is? I thought I knew what a temperament is, but I can't really describe it in simple terms... I don't think it's really a simple concept I suppose, though we do have articles about much more complex subjects. — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 14:53, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello! Seems that I have strayed a bit from my original goal there, and I still haven't finished the Hasse draft. Instead, I have made an attempt to expand Signore Melante's article. Here is my draft - User:Fehufanga/Sandbox4. I appreciate your comments! — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 11:48, 29 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Georg Philipp Telemann

[change source]

Hello! Sorry for bothering you again, especially if you've seen the message above. I've decided to expand Telemann's article. Do you have any suggestions for the Music and Legacy section? I'm quite stumped on writing about his instrumental music. Also, do you know where else I can look for Telemann literature? Zohn's book is quite comprehensive but I don't want to rely exclusively on it. — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 13:22, 10 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ah yes, no worries! -- sorry I haven't gotten to look yet at your other article -- will do that soon. Regarding Telemann, you can start with the references for the enwiki article. If you live near a good research library, of course you can go there (that's how I wrote many of the Renaissance composer articles on enwiki -- I got a library card and checked books out). It's a challenging job, because some aspects of an article on a composer will be extremely difficult to render in "simple" English -- the concepts are not always simple. Particularly the Music section. Biographical and legacy stuff should be easier. Antandrus (talk) 14:41, 10 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No worries too! There are surprisingly few books about Telemann in English, or maybe I'm just not looking at the right places. If it weren't for the ridiculous shipping costs, I'd have bought the German books from Amazon. I should still try visiting a library, maybe I'll find something.
Writing about his music is quite difficult, I'd probably have written a much longer paragraph in complex English. — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 00:47, 11 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Nice job so far! Your "simple" English style reads well. Obviously there's a lot to say about the music -- as much as you want. Such an astonishingly prolific composer; it seemed like he could compose literally as fast as his hand could move. Antandrus (talk) 03:29, 12 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the copyedits! I've found some more sources from the Internet Archive, one about his instrumental music. Maybe I can write something off that. His prolificity is really amazing, and I thought that Bach's four cycles were a lot. And for that prolificity he was also criticized... — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 07:13, 12 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, no worries. Please delete it. When that particular deranged stalker is on a tear sometimes I start a talk page for his open proxy IP with '.' - for reasons I won't explain where he can see - but it is helpful in fighting his disruption. Antandrus (talk) 01:55, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

That LTA

[change source]

Thank you for fighting all of that disruption, but do not constantly revert his edits as you might become one of his targets. – 64andtim (talk) 05:26, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I know. I already am one of his targets - the primary one, I think, because he blames me for his misery. He's been harassing me since 2006. I wish he'd get medical help. He spent three years in jail for stalking and harassment (2015-2018; a judge, a school administrator, and someone else) and it was the most lovely quiet time on Wikimedia projects. Unfortunately he didn't learn much from the experience, and also unfortunately our usual tools like 'DENY' don't work with someone with a profound mental illness. Antandrus (talk) 15:55, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Who is GRP I keep seeing him and reporting the ips but he doesn't stop. 84Swagahh (talk) 19:07, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This guy. He's been doing this literally since 2006 (see above). He's mentally ill, and thinks we are the ones harassing and stalking him. If he sends you email do not reply; he will use your email address for further harassment. Antandrus (talk) 19:11, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
He's been doing this since 2006? That is 18 years now! 😲 84Swagahh (talk) 19:23, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Lol I didn't even realize 2006 happened 18 years ago. You make me feel old now, and I’m in my mid 20s 😕. Imagine what he could’ve done during alllll that time if he seeked help, just wasting it on pointless rants and harassment which will get him nowhere. Don’t be like him, kids. XXBlackburnXx (talk) 19:54, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also, don't be like Blue Barette Bam, kiddies. They're probably much worse than GRP. – 64andtim 🤔 (problem?) 17:04, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Who's that? Is it the ip using shock image vandalism or someone else. 84Swagahh (talk) 17:15, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Funny thing about that guy (GRP) - he just can't help himself; he's compelled to carry on his campaign of abuse and harassment, possibly by voices in his head that he cannot control. Mental illness is tragic. I find that having a dark sense of humor is helpful, for those who have to deal with it. He won't stop until he's in jail again, and since he also stalks and harasses people in meatspace, i.e. Chicago, that's inevitable. I feel sorry for the guy, honestly. Antandrus (talk) 17:34, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Somebody -- see m:User:Leonidlednev/LTAs/BBB. – 64andtim 🤔 (problem?) 03:53, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ohh - that person. I've seen that one on RCs on enwiki. They're the nasty transphobe I would see around the holidays. Didn't realize they had a case page, but makes sense. Thanks - Antandrus (talk) 04:13, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
He got globally blocked from WikiMedia Foundation yesterday. 84Swagahh (talk) 17:04, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Good. If only banning halfwits would actually get them to leave. Antandrus (talk) 17:23, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You added it however you didn’t remove the vandalism that occurred prior that’s why your edit got reverted. Nothing you did was wrong. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 19:22, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks - I miss stuff sometimes :) Antandrus (talk) 20:18, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. Just always look at the history or the source first before you save. Doing a preview before saving will help you a lot. Its a habit I got into a long time ago to check for any errors I may have introduced or were brought in while working on something. Thanks - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 20:20, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

LTA GRP

[change source]

Do you think there is a point in reporting the IPs which GRP uses to Wikipedia:Vandalism in progress anymore? He keeps switching IP addresses so rapidly that reporting them would create much more work for the admins to do here. He just won't stop... it's been 15 years, almost close to 20, and he's still on Wikipedia despite being foundation-banned. TheWikiCyclone (talk) 04:27, 13 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @TheWikiCyclone: - probably not, the IPs anyway. I report accounts to m:SRG. I think we should globally block all IPs because eventually he'll run out, but that would require a steward or global sysop watching all the time. - Regarding the length of time: yes, he's mentally ill, and probably thinks he's carrying on a war with us for his very survival, or something, likely with voices in his head. I can't say much publicly but we're working on putting a permanent end to it. Sad case, actually. Antandrus (talk) 05:08, 13 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If I remember correctly, he has been arrested a couple of times for harassment and stalking, both online and in-person. I genuinely feel so sorry for him and wished that he would get help. But no, he's been doing this for way too long – yelling at users and screaming incoherent nonsense; pretending to be in a "war" with Wikipedia; making attack pages on other websites about the users who revert his edits (and also long-time editors on Wikipedia who most likely haven't even interacted with him), and much more. In fact, he has been on Wikipedia for much longer than how much my friends have lived on this Earth for their entire lives. TheWikiCyclone (talk) 05:25, 13 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Lua errors

[change source]

Hi, Antandrus. I noticed that you are trying to remove lua errors. I just wanted to let you know that hundreds of pages have the same "-- babies on wheels" issue, so there's no use in going through all the issues manually. The issue is in "package.lua:80", but I have no idea where that can be found. Cheers, Hockeycatcat (talk) (changes) 14:56, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks - yeah, I know - I've been looking for the module too but haven't found it yet. It seems to get invoked when someone uses a template with a lower case rather than upper case initial, e.g. Template:for instead of Template:For. Template:Redirect has some clues, but damn, why don't pages at least have a link to modules they use? Curiously a bunch of these have been fixed already so someone else must be working on it. @MathXplore:, do you have an idea how to fix this? Antandrus (talk) 15:17, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, actually I was waiting for information from others. I think your guess about {{redirect}} is right. MathXplore (talk) 15:19, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have tried running multiple searches myself while on vandalism patrol, the closest I got was by clicking on the red text, that brings up a pop-up with various modules, but I could not find anything in there. It seems like there should be a "Package" namespace or something, but that doesn't exist either. In any case, when this gets found, it needs to be indeffed. Maybe we should get some outside help from sysops who work with these modules a lot. Hockeycatcat (talk) (changes) 15:23, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Bible is showing this message now, but if I change to use the legacy parser, the error goes away. However, if I edit that page and immediately hit preview, no error shows. Is it possible that when using the new parser that it expects template names to be case correct in some places? But then there's Bryophyte#Life_cycle where switching parsers didn't help and the template call in the source looks to be correct for case. Frustrating... Possible there's some server-level caching causing some of this to live around so long? Ravensfire (talk) 19:50, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's a caching problem. Adding ?action=purge to the end of the url (e.g. https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bible?action=purge) and clicking the magic button will solve this. - XXBlackburnXx (talk) 19:54, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Caching ... the solution to many performance problems and the cause of many WTF?!@&* problems. Ravensfire (talk) 20:03, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wow. Thanks all. I was frustrated because "preview" never showed it, nor was I able to make the problem occur in my sandbox when I created an identical article. I don't think I've ever seen a vandalism before that I couldn't fix. Antandrus (talk) 20:37, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Is there a way to purge the entire website? It would be tedious to go through thousands of affected pages. Hockeycatcat (talk) (changes) 22:35, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Are you good with Python? :) - I imagine one could write a script to search for "babies on wheels" or something, open each page, append ?action=purge to the URL, refresh, move to next page. I did about fifty of them but then decided there had to be a better way. Related question for anyone watching - how often are pages stored in the cache updated? Only when there is a change to the page? Antandrus (talk) 23:08, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Category:Pages_with_script_errors had over 900 entries yesterday and is down to a handful now, so someone either handled the cache clearing or the cache with the bad template expired / refreshed. I'm a developer working on a system that has three different cache levels (and that's just in my applications), so I'm irked I didn't think of this earlier when I couldn't find that text from an insource: search. Ravensfire (talk) 13:27, 25 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I want to know: how are you doing? It's definitely been a very hot and humid summer for me, as always - I went on a vacation to the Gulf Coast earlier this month. Read quite a lot of Wikipedia articles while I was on vacation, especially about weather, a topic that I'm specifically interested in. Cyclonical (talk) 08:08, 18 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there - doing great. I enjoy the Gulf Coast myself. Wish I could get their seafood out here on the west coast. Antandrus (talk) 05:02, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Glad to see you are doing well. I'm doing just as well, although my mental health has deteriorated over the years with anxiety and such. Indeed, there are places around the west coast that sell Cajun-style seafood, but really, having it near the heart of Louisiana just really is the best in my opinion. Nothing better than having food from where it originated. Cyclonical (talk) 06:14, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
