Please semi-protect my user page User:TheGeneralUser

Hey Osiris :) Can you please semi-protect my user page as there are always threats of vandalism and also as it is a user request within own user space. I have already got it semi-protected on English Wikipedia because of this concern! As you know prevention is better than cure ;). Regards. TheGeneralUser (talk) 21:56, 1 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

 Done. Osiris (talk) 03:16, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your help Osiris! TheGeneralUser (talk) 19:43, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Mother Teresa

I didn't think we needed to mention her Nobel Peace prize twice (it's mentioned at the top with a link to the Peace prize). The second mention, the one I tried to remove, links to the Nobel Prizes page itself and has a dead ref. link to CNN. I removed that and the link rot tag because I thought the tag was about the CNN.com "page not found" error. I certainly agree that it's a notable fact. — This unsigned comment was added by 172.162.4.204 (talk • changes) on 12:22, 2 June 2012‎.

Fox News Channel

I received a vandalism warning on my talk page from GolbinBot4 after changing the article for Fox News Channel (I added sources and details that were not there before). I would like you to take a look at my changes and remove the warning (if you can) if you agree that I did not vandalize the page. Thank you! — This unsigned comment was added by 172.162.4.204 (talk • changes) on 12:46, 2 June 2012‎.

Comment appreciated

I didn't thank you for the comment you left with this thank-you box, but I really appreciated it. :) --Auntof6 (talk) 07:36, 3 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback

Hello sir. Wen i get "autoconfirmed", can i get the rights then? --Simeondahl (talk) 18:06, 3 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I guess so. I'm a bit worried, though, when you make reverts like this one. I'd personally like to see you in action here for a bit longer. Osiris (talk) 16:12, 4 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ups, sorry. My mestake, i will wate a bit longer to show :) Okay? --Simeondahl (talk) 16:23, 4 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That'd be great. Thank you, Simeon. Osiris (talk) 16:27, 4 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sir. With the frew edits i have (49 ), can i get "patroller", so i can patrol the edits that i am checking? I can wate with the "Rollback", until you are sure. I can wathe if you want me to, but it wut be nice to have. --Simeondahl (talk) 12:38, 6 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Patroller is only given to regulars so usually takes a few thousand edits to get to and some time spent on the wiki so people get to know you. -DJSasso (talk) 12:47, 6 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Djsasso. I still have the experience to have that persission. I have a lot of edits 3,218 on Danish, 916 English. All of then is almost only removeing of vandalism. I how to patroll, i know how rollback works, i know how a site shut lock like and not. But i will wate, but the sonner o get them, sonner i can get to work. --Simeondahl (talk) 12:56, 6 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
What you have done on another wiki doesn't matter. You basically start from scratch on each new wiki. We here on the wiki don't know what your article creating ability is or if you are trustworthy so you have to be here for a good amount of time so the community here gets to know you. -DJSasso (talk) 14:18, 6 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Can i at least get Rollback sir? --Simeondahl (talk) 14:26, 6 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Done, no big deal. Definitely can't flag you as patrolled since we don't know what your content work is like (how well you write articles). Osiris (talk) 06:44, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Minnie Mouse

Sorry for my lack of attention.Érico msg 23:37, 3 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Heh, no worries! The vandalism was amusing enough that I didn't mind reading it twice Osiris (talk) 23:40, 3 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I did not expect this of Miney ....! Érico msg 23:44, 3 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup

I am glad you have found a few more of those edits to clean up. The IP 108.17.36.47 did a lot of editing over the last couple of days. Many of the edits are well entrenched in the page histories, and inspite of reverting hundreds, there is probably much more if we look closely. Peterdownunder (talk) 05:37, 5 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think that's the lot. It was well-spotted by you. Osiris (talk) 05:41, 5 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nudity vs. porn

Note results like this (devoirs is French for "homework") or this. Regards. --Jayen466 (talk) 11:25, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Jayen, but it's irrelevant what the inquirer referred to, the same answer applies. Osiris (talk) 11:34, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Just FYI, "homework" isn't the only meaning of "devoirs". It can also mean duties or tasks. --Auntof6 (talk) 12:39, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Just challenging the public-relations myth that we are only talking about nudity, and not porn. We are talking about hardcore, dog-on-nun sex and women-drinking-their-urine, porn. Right? --Jayen466 (talk) 12:45, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I'm not sure that "we" were talking about anything. If you have a better response for the inquiry, please post it. I don't mean to be rude, but I have more important things to be doing than speculating about what kind of pornographic material the IP was referring to, since the same answer applies. Osiris (talk) 22:46, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Just in case you were wondering, the original poster (User_talk:99.67.54.165) of the question on Wikipedia_talk:Schools posted a recent video of the post "Does Wikipedia have a porn problem? Patroller

Hello. Now i have createt 5 new pages, so you can see i know how to work. I can make more, but the supposed was to show you. If they are okay, then you know that I know how a article shut look. --Simeondahl (talk) 16:23, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Another one to userfy, like you did with Gaedok? Gaedok, by the way, was moved back, before it was ready, IMO. --Auntof6 (talk) 14:36, 11 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hm. In fact it looks like it was moved back without a single edit to it. Why don't I just propose that they be deleted? Osiris (talk) 20:29, 11 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Now at RFD. Thanks for letting me know. Osiris (talk) 20:44, 11 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yw. Did you mean to includes both articles? I only see the older one listed on the discussion page. --Auntof6 (talk) 20:53, 11 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oops, yep. Fixed. Osiris (talk) 21:07, 11 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Mambo?

I give up; where did you mean Mambo (dance) to redirect to? :) --Auntof6 (talk) 04:27, 12 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Eh, not even sure myself... Osiris (talk) 04:35, 12 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A big all-around thank you

I really appreciated your help today as all of the TMD students got their feet wet with Simple English Wikipedia. They are pretty good students, and I will work with them weekly through the end of July. I hope they produce some good stuff in the end. They are very busy, so I doubt many of them will continue as editors after the course is over, but they are enjoying the experience so far. I hope they leave with a new appreciation for wikis and open culture. ELTted (talk) 09:06, 12 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You're very welcome, though I didn't really do much (you cleaned everything up yourself). It's incredibly valuable for us to have an experienced editor teaching and coordinating new users, whether they continue or not, so the praise really belongs to you alone. If you need anything else just let me know. Osiris (talk) 10:29, 12 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Tireless Contributor! :D

The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
Hi, Osiris! Your helpful contributions just seem to have no end. @_@ I admire you for it! You really make more edits a day than one user can do in a month! ._. One user = me... Anyway, I just wanted to present you a barnstar for your great, great work!!! (You deserve a lot of exclamation points. And italics. :P) Bella tête-à-tête 11:26, 12 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Bella! Hehe, yes I have a little too much spare time on my hands. Many thanks for the praise. Osiris (talk) 11:31, 12 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Also a great thank you from me! Great work! --weltforce (talk) 14:05, 12 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Your work is really amazing! Thanks in advance! --weltforce (talk) 11:33, 14 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Weltforce! You're very kind. :) Osiris (talk) 14:19, 14 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yōmei Seamount

Notice that Ōjin Seamount is north of the "bend" in the chain

This change was probably a mistake:

  • diff Yōmei Seamount‎; 04:04 . . (+36)‎ . . ‎Osiris ... (added Category:Geography of Hawaii using HotCat)

Please reconsider; or point me towards a cite which supports this change. --Horeki (talk) 04:26, 14 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Changes at Jingū Seamount‎ and Ōjin Seamount are also questioned, yes? --Horeki (talk) 04:29, 14 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
In the map above, the Emperor Seamounts are north of the "V" in the chain. Do you see what I mean? --Horeki (talk) 04:34, 14 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Erm, yes. I do now. Sorry, undoing myself in a moment. Osiris (talk) 04:36, 14 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Thanks for letting me know. Osiris (talk) 04:38, 14 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps I caused this problem with a misleading image? The same image was posted in the upper right corner of articles about peaks in the Hawaiian-Emperor chain. I regret the inconvenience I caused.

Please take a look at the new image here, for example. As you can see, this topographical image of the seafloor is a non-default size; but the larger size is probably necessary. --Horeki (talk) 17:39, 14 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

My mistake just came from a lack of knowledge on the subject. The map wasn't labelled (the new one is much better) and seeing the name "Hawaiian" led me to believe it was in the Hawaiian Islands. If you're looking to prevent future confusion, maybe by being more specific- describing them as being one of the "Emperor Seamounts"- might be clearer? Osiris (talk) 00:12, 15 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Croatian Liberation Movement

Please, stop distorting my original version and misinterpreting the sources. Do job where you are qualified fully. --71.191.23.46 (talk) 11:55, 17 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you can give me specific examples of where the sources have been misrepresented, I can fix it. As far as I can see, both Eptalon and myself have represented the sources quite well. Kindly, Osiris (talk) 12:27, 17 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A little "gotcha" I just noticed

Take a look at this change I just made. I think it's you who has changed some template names to use lower-case. When you do that, could you check to be sure any categories and interwikis are still in effect? (Either that, or remove the #ifeq altogether if it doesn't need to be there.) Thanks! --Auntof6 (talk) 16:13, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, wow that was well-spotted. Thanks for that and I'll remember to check it in the future. Osiris (talk) 01:41, 19 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, thanks for the wonderful welcome. I am currently trying to read all the policies of simple wiki and try my hand at editing, I wanted to ask, are there stuff like Manual of Styles, that is there in English wiki?? --Debastein (talk) 18:39, 22 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Are you looking for Wikipedia:Manual of Style? --weltforce (talk) 23:53, 22 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

Thank you for the welcome. --Arsenalkid700 (talk) 03:03, 23 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Its cool. I made the article before reading the guidelines. Restoring it is not necessary. I will start from scratch. Cheers. --Arsenalkid700 (talk) 04:28, 23 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Twinkle Tagging

twinkletag for Simple English Wikipedia
ported into TW tab

Hello Osiris, you know to add maintenance tags to articles with Twinkle? Well, the English Wikipedia Twinkle has got that feature. But I could detect it here, so I copied and rewritten some Code, and now it's working. What do you think about that tool? --weltforce (talk) 02:07, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Where's the script? Osiris (talk) 02:35, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm using twinkletag on my javascript page through User:PiRSquared17/friendlytag.js, I think. Is yours much different? There's also User:Message From Xenu/twinkletag.js, which I know from it being in pretty much every maintenance category... Anyway, are you looking to enable the script as a preference for users? Osiris (talk) 02:50, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It's not much different. But I ported the tool into the "TW"-Tab, see the picture right please. I'm trying to port all en's Twinkle tools to here. Hehe --weltforce (talk) 10:31, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh yes, and I updated styles on User:LightForce/morebits.js. I think I can present some results very soon ^^ --weltforce (talk) 10:50, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please see Wikipedia talk:Twinkle/Archive 1#New modules. Thank you! --weltforce (talk) 12:45, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Do we have to do more than just enable the gadget for these changes to work? --Auntof6 (talk) 19:10, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You only need to change a little bit here ;) --weltforce (talk) 19:21, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm suspicious that this user is a sockpuppet of en:User:BrandonSkyPimenta; he has two sockpuppets blocked on this wiki.--Jasper Deng (talk) 03:32, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'll send you an email in a moment. Osiris (talk) 03:38, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Whoops

Yeah I edited an old revision on that page instead of the current one. Good catch. -DJSasso (talk) 13:41, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Twinkle

Good news! I've successfully added friendlytalkback.js to Simple English Wikipedia's Twinkle! It gives you the ability to add talkback templates to user talk pages! Feel free to test it on my talk page, Osiris! --weltforce (talk) 22:11, 26 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Do we use talkback here much? When I was new here, I was advised not to bother because people keep track of pages where they've left messages. --Auntof6 (talk) 01:19, 27 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Cool. I don't really use talkback, I use whisperback sometimes. Can you please abbreviate the button to "tb" or something similar? The buttons are falling off my tiny screen. Also, with the uw- tagger, I know that "notify" is probably more suitable but most of us are used to seeing "warn" so it might be an easier transition if you kept it the same as the old script. Osiris (talk) 06:11, 27 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your suggestion! I think I will integrate some radio buttons to let the user decide wether to use {{Talkback}}, {{Talkbacktiny}} oder {{Whisperback}}. I have now changed "Talkback" into "TB" and "Notify" into "Warn". I also responded to your message here. Thanks again! --weltforce (talk) 00:38, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yute

I see what you have done. That is enough, I think, if you believe that there is a reason for a "Yute" page to exist at all. BobShair (talk) 02:51, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

IEP 2.0 proposal

I regret that I couldn't join you in agreeing to the IEP 2.0 proposal. If we re-visit this in future, maybe it will play out differently.

As the IEP 2.0 discussion winds down, it may be timely to contrast and compare an SEWP pilot program in Japan.

I mentioned it here, but two sentences may have been overlooked in the wall of words:

"... a very different kind of strategy has marked the development of a pilot SEWP program at Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU) here and here. Strategic planning and context-building here and here were quite distinct from the IEP 2.0 proposal."

I hope we can find ways to build on things that seem to be going well. --Horeki (talk) 19:43, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I expect that the discussion will be reinvigorated in about a month or so after the volunteers have established themselves as editors familiar with how simplewiki operates. I believe there were a couple of programs in Japan in the past (before my time). I'm not familiar with JALT or the links you've given me though. Are they related to Gotanda's project? Osiris (talk) 05:41, 30 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, we'll see. FYI, Gotanda mentioned JALT here. --Horeki (talk) 17:21, 30 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, thanks for that. We'll have to see what develops with JALT, but looks promising from what I can see. Osiris (talk) 02:40, 1 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Osiris deleting my page was a real low i mean honestly we own our image's what is going on? doe's any1 have a life on here with all this deleting energy let's delete world hunger, racism ,this recession etc etc etc i am being as civil as possible so please stop this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Anthonybex (talkcontribs) 16:06, 30 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, but I'm assuming you don't own the paintings or works of art. You need permission from the artists to reuse photographs of their work, because they are classified as derivative works. For legal reasons, we cannot accept the images without this permission. Osiris (talk) 16:14, 30 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
