Migration

I've had to browse through a few talk pages to get an idea of what needs to be done to get Twinkle migrated to Simple English Wikipedia. As such, I'd like to propose that the discussions are continued here so that a community effort can be put into this project. I've created a To Do list at the top of this talk page, please add a remove items from it as needed. Thanks! EhJJ (talk) 14:08, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey EhJJ,
I've actually been working on a version of Twinkle for a non-WMF site recently, and i've had some pretty good results. Therefore, i'm happy to help out with it here too if people can let me know what we have and what is needed.
Thanks,

Chenzw (talk · contribs) moved the page from enWP to here, so I took a quick look at his talk page. As far as I can tell, there are some technical problems to migrating Twinkle in addition to creating templates, etc. Hopefully other people who have worked on this will appear and we can get this project moving forward. I don't think we need Twinkle as much as it is needed on enWP, but it's a handy tool. EhJJ (talk) 16:23, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I was having a play earlier and the main thing that I see that needs doing is templates creating/changing and the interface simplifying. I'm going to download the next dump of the wiki and test my version locally and make changes etc locally, before releasing it as a beta version to the wiki. Thanks, Goblin 17:33, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Quick deletion

I have a mostly migrated version of twinkespeedy.js in my userspace User:EhJJ/twinklespeedy.js. It still needs some minor work and then extensive testing (particularly by an admin, as I do not have that ability). EhJJTALK 20:57, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

User:EhJJ/twinklespeedy.js should be renamed to User:EhJJ/twinklequick.js, don't you think? —Waterfox (talk) 18:18, 26 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Warn

I've updated the warn function to have all the warnings found on Template:User talk page warnings. It is also in my userspace at User:EhJJ/twinklewarn.js. Please test it out and let me know if it needs any changes. EhJJTALK 23:14, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tagging module for Twinkle

I've made a very basic tagging system for Twinkle. You can see it here: User:Message From Xenu/twinkletag.js. For my own use, but if you want to add it to the main modules, that's fine. Message from XENUsend a message! 03:20, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

testing space

We've had this on en.WP for a while, and I thought it would be handy over here as well. Since Twinkle and some other tools will only add warnings to user talk pages I have created User talk:Sandbox for user warnings as a place to test out things. So test away! Beeblebrox (talk) 03:41, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You can fool twinkle into warning on other pages, using Greasemonkey, or just by using javascript: URLs (bookmarklet method) or using the JS console (like Firebug) on any major non-IE browser. That account's talk page would be very useful for testing warnings, welcomes, etc. though. (I was just TASER-ing this) Thank you, πr2 (t • c) 17:54, 17 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Size

Hi, why is the Twinkle in Simple English so much smaller than in the normal English? Because in normal English, you can request page protection, nominate deletion instead of needing to CQD everything, propose deletion, unlink backlinks, and add maintenance tags to articles. Is there any way to get an Importer to move these features into the Simple English Twinkle, and just simplify the English used in it, would someone need to do it from scratch, or is it already being worked on? Orashmatash (tc) 20:46, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

RfD would require major changes, but still very possible to implement. Please tell me on my talk page if there is a problem with Twinkle. I didn't even know this page existed before... πr2 (t • c) 17:50, 17 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Is Twinkle sick?

For the last couple of hours, every time I try to use the warn or quick delete functions, it fails because Twinkle thinks the page doesn't exist. Anyone know what's up? --Auntof6 (talk) 04:55, 22 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there. I suggest replacing the {{Anon}} template that we have in the welcome section with {{Anon2}}. Anon2 is much more detailed and is a lot less boring. Thanks. --Orashmatash (talk) 19:44, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Update from 2011: Friendly and twinklexfd

I recently have modified Friendly for use in the Simple English Wikipedia (i.e., removed non-created templates and tried to add welcome messages here). (that needs more work) I also have ported twinklexfd (yesterday). It works correctly AFAIK. In order for it to tell users about the RfD, {{RfD-notice}} or something like that mustshould be made. How many people actually use Twinkle here? Should it be re-ported/forked from github (it has changed a lot)? A somewhat merged version of Twinkle and Friendly exists at User:PiRSquared17/twinkle.js. I might work on another module tomorrow (or today). πr2 (talk • changes) 19:11, 8 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Issue with Twinkle's QD list

When I use Twinkle for QD, it shows two lines for G3. One is for vandalism (that's the normal G3 reason) and one for "blatant hoax". I'm thinking the latter should be removed. --Auntof6 (talk) 05:28, 13 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Twinkle not working at all?

For the past two days, I've been noticing that Twinkle isn't working for me at all. None of the Twinkle tools appear at the top of a page. Is anyone else having this problem? If so, could it be fixed? This is the only Wikipedia I'm having this problem on. Lugia2453 (talk) 20:04, 25 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm seeing the same thing. Another thing I notice is that I'm not always seeing the buttons for bolding, linking, adding a signature, etc. when I edit a page. I don't know if these are related -- maybe something in the base software? The only thing I've heard that changed recently is that Wikidata phase 2 was implemented here. Maybe a coincidence, maybe not. --Auntof6 (talk) 21:16, 25 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, sorry for my long absence, I was really busy in real life. But I promise to have a look into it and fix it. Thank you :) --@intforce 21:20, 25 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Quick update, Twinkle somehow doesn't work when activated in the user settings panel. However, it does when when you add the line

mw.loader.load(['ext.gadget.Twinkle']);

into your personal .js page. I don't know how this issue is caused; it works the same way in enwiki and there are no problems. Because the Twinkle definition in MediaWiki:Gadgets-definition is the same, I cannot really offer a solution than to deactivate Twinkle in the settings and add the line to your JavaScript page. My apologies, I really have no clue where the problem is. --@intforce 21:53, 25 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I added that to User:Auntof6/monobook.js (I use the monobook skin), and it still isn't working. I believe I purged the cache just to be sure. I even closed my browser completely and restarted it, and it still wasn't working. --Auntof6 (talk) 06:18, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Twinkle down?

I have been trying to give warnings to a user, but nothing happens. It shows the box, but it stops. Also can't report to VIP for some reason. Glitch? --ABCDEFAD 21:28, 24 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently, it works on page tagging. What?--ABCDEFAD 21:40, 24 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I did a few tests and it appears that it's just a bit slow; wait a few seconds and it should work fine. -Mh7kJ (talk) 21:43, 24 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
There is a type of glitch that if a warning is reverted, then Twinkle gets confused and does not work correctly. I had a vandal reverting me and another editor yesterday here on an IP talk page: [[1]. Twinkle completely stalled and would not work right. It would not enter any warning except leveI one. I had to manually enter all the IP notices after the first, and some of the vandalism levels, as you can see from the history. Fylbecatulous talk 22:11, 24 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Twinkle is very much a use at your own risk item here. It isn't really fully supported or working here. -DJSasso (talk) 01:52, 30 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Other things it's no longer doing correctly:
  • If you select any warning level other than 1, it seems to hang up.
  • It doesn't let you select any options other than "General note".
--Auntof6 (talk) 17:11, 2 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Cool, now when I press something, lets say level 3, it shows level 1 instead of level 3 warning.WTF?--ABCDEFAD 20:52, 8 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, level 2 warning hangs up. Thought it might be that preferences need to be refreshed here every now and then, but reselecting them and restarting the browser both don't help. Sminthopsis84 (talk) 16:18, 9 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I changed the tw preferences to make the default level 2, and now the only thing it is showing is level 2 warnings, not level 1.--ABCDEFAD 13:07, 23 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I think we should have users put in the code because it puts admins in a better position to help deal with abuse (as admins can edit other's JS files). Opinions? Krett12 (talk) 22:28, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

That's not a very good idea. We want to make it easier for other editors to use Twinkle. It's more intuitive to just check a box in your own preferences as compared to inserting some code in your own JS (which some editors may not even understand). If there's abuse of Twinkle, the blocking policy will apply. Chenzw  Talk  01:20, 25 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

"product" in QD A4

Twinkle currently lists "People, groups, companies or websites" for A4 quick deletion, and the note mentions "a real person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content". However, the deletion policy refers to "people, groups, companies, products, services or websites". Notably, "products" is listed on the deletion policy but not in Twinkle. Could this be changed? Thanks, -- Irn (talk) 15:18, 13 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Where is the list that needs product added? When I use Twinkle, I see "product" included in the A4 option. Note: if possible, it would be good to refer to the policy page instead of duplicating information. --Auntof6 (talk) 15:30, 13 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That's strange. Mine shows as I quoted it above: "A4: People, groups, companies or websites that are not notable." When I hover over the little question mark, it says "An article about a real person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content that does not say why it is important." -- Irn (talk) 15:40, 13 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe you're invoking it differently. Can you post a screenshot? --Auntof6 (talk) 16:10, 13 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Screenshot. -- Irn (talk) 17:06, 13 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I don't think I've seen that screen before. Since I'm an admin here, though, I'd have little use for it here, and I don't work on other Wikipedias much these days. In any case, I don't know how to change those things. I recommend that you post at WP:Simple talk to ask for help and direct people to this conversation. It might help if you say (here) what skin you use and exactly how you invoke Twinkle. I imagine someone will be able to help. --Auntof6 (talk) 17:36, 13 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Would it be possible to blend {{welcome}} (for registered editors) with {{welcome-anon}} for IP editors who have made unhelpful edits, but may not be worthy of a warning? Grant proposal for creating a localised version of Twinkle

Hi all. I wanted to note that I have made a m:Rapid Grant proposal for improving Twinkle so that it is localisable. See m:Grants:Project/Rapid/SD0001/Twinkle localisation. It means it would be easier to set up Twinkle on a new wiki, and updates will automatically propagate to Twinkle installations on all wikis. Project-specific templates and logic would be customisable via sitewide configuration files. Feel free to drop any comments or community endorsements. Thanks! @Computer Fizz: Twinkle is very complicated. It would need to be heavily modified to work here if you were trying to copy it over. It is the reason we use a very old version, the version on en.wiki relies heavily on css and various other things that may or may not exist here that exist on en.wiki. It can't just be copied over. And I would note, its not just one file, there are many files to twinkle. -DJSasso (talk) 13:55, 6 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
