Biographical articles

Hi, and thanks for your new biographical articles. June Foray is one of my favorite voice actors.

I notice that you have the {{BLP unsourced}} tag on quite a few of your new articles. Did you know that all biographies of living people are supposed to have references? You can read about the policy at en:WP:BLPPROD. While we don't usually delete unsourced biographies here, the concerns are the same. You can help by including references in your articles. When you base an article on an English Wikipedia article that already has references, keep the references in the text that you copy here. Thanks! --Auntof6 (talk) 05:11, 29 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi TDKR. Just a reminder about this. Lars Emil Johansen, Kuupik Kleist, Abdelmalek Sellal, Jigme Thinley and Tshering Tobgay each need a reference. Thanks, Osiris (talk) 04:25, 16 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I see that there are dozens of these... Osiris (talk) 04:30, 16 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Fixing is under the works :) --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 04:32, 16 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks. Personally, I find these sort of two-sentence stubs pretty useless. Like Lars Emil Johansen and Zafer Önen contain almost no useful information. The one on Önen, particularly, doesn't even say why he was notable. Which makes it liable for quick deletion. Osiris (talk) 04:44, 16 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Should I continue tagging? Those were just the first few I came across, but it looks like you've created dozens of them without sources. I can list them here if you'd like. You can also go back and see them on Special:NewPages. Osiris (talk) 04:50, 16 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Um, which ever reason you think seem to be the best. Sadly I can't do it right now because of school. First thing on my list tomorrow. Good night. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 04:52, 16 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I undid your edit to this article. If you indicate a living person's religion, even by a category, there should be a reference for it. --Auntof6 (talk) 12:02, 6 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Batman articles

It's fun to see all your new Batman articles. Before you create any more, though, please be sure they meet notability guidelines. Not everything in the Bat-verse needs a separate article. --Auntof6 (talk) 03:37, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please give me an example, thanks - TDKR Chicago 101.
Start by reading Wikipedia:Notability. That gives general notability guidelines. After you read that, reply here, on your talk page, with any questions you have. It's sometimes better to group fictional characters into one article, something like List of Percy Jackson and the Olympians characters or List of characters in The Sarah Jane Adventures, especially if there isn't a lot to say about each one. If you do that, then you pretty much only have to think about whether the main subject is notable, not each character. Let me know if you have questions.
By the way, please keep conversations on talk pages on the page where they started. I'm moving this back to your talk page, so you can reply there. --Auntof6 (talk) 04:24, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Looking through their articles I am seeing very notable characters and decently written stubs. Are there some that you are in particular concerned about?. The ones I saw by skimming through his contributations are all very notable comic/movie characters. -DJSasso (talk) 12:41, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

New categories

Hi. Two categories that you created each have only two entries. Those categories are Category:Mexican historians and Category:Mexican historians. You probably didn't know that we want at least three entries in a category. Do you plan to put more pages in these categories? --Auntof6 (talk) 04:23, 8 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your input requested on octogenarian and nonogenarian categories

I have asked Jim Michael about the need for these categories. Since you created some of them, please see the discussion on his talk page and add your comments. --Auntof6 (talk) 01:52, 13 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Categories should have at least 3 entries

Please stop creating categories that have only one or two entries. When you create a category, it should have at least three entries. This has been explained to you before (see above). If you have any questions, please let me know. --Auntof6 (talk) 04:17, 26 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello? Are you seeing this message? Your new categories Category:Holocaust survivors and Category:Romanian-Americans each have only two entries. Please be sure you have at least three entries before creating a category. --Auntof6 (talk) 22:45, 2 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Einstein

Thanks for your interest in the Einstein article. As you may have noticed, there are some people who dislike the article pretty intensely. As is frequently the case, criticism is easier to provide than the work needed to remedy problems. I've noticed that lots of the vocabulary in the original sections is far more advanced than needed (e.g., "the dawn of," "on the verge of," etc. instead of "at the start of"). Finding simpler ways to say things, changing passive constructions into active constructions, etc., can be time consuming, but these articles are intended for readers whose first language may not be English. RfD nomination of Category:US Independent Party politicians

An editor has requested deletion of Category:US Independent Party politicians, an article you created. We appreciate your changes, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article meets Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Please comment on the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2013/Category:US Independent Party politicians and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also change the article during the discussion to address the nominator's concerns. But you should not remove the requests for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you very much. Auntof6 (talk) 23:25, 11 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The Editor's Barnstar
After all of the incessant nagging you had to endure from me when you first started here, you sure as hell deserve some recognition for the way your new articles are looking now. The quality has improved dramatically, and you haven't slowed down in the slightest! Amazing! Osiris (talk) 01:46, 16 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I have to concur with the statements made by all these other users (though I've not been on long enough nor am I experienced enough to nag at you). Natalie Portman

A couple of questions:

  1. Do you have a source for Portman being a naturalized US citizen? Her mother was American, so she might have that citizenship from her.
  2. BuzzFeed doesn't look like a very reliable source. The link says the people listed are "Democrats or known liberals". Can you find a better source for political affiliations? --Auntof6 (talk) 09:24, 25 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Not only Portman

Actually, I see that you're using this as a source for many articles. For something like this, we should have better sources than entertainment sites. Please stop adding political parties until you can find a better source. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 09:33, 25 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A quick goodbye to Rebert (talk) by TDKR Chicago 101

Every time when I would check movie reviews I would always look at his reviews only. Very sad that such a great man would die from such a painful disease. One of the greatest movie critics that this world will ever see. He's in a better place now. Goodbye Mr. Ebert and I give your career "two thumbs up". R.I.P. Roger Ebert (1942-2013). --TDKR Chicago 101, 8 April 2013, 22:50 (UTC).

I didn't notice this at the time, but the English Wikipedia appears to have come to the tentative conclusion that Rebert (talkchanges) was in fact the man himself -- en:Wikipedia:Deceased Wikipedians/2013. Osiris (talk) 07:10, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Some more notes

Hey again! I hope you are well! :) I noticed that you're getting really active on many other wikis now! I don't know where you find the time...

I was just looking through all the new pages on the wiki from the last week or so. Normally I don't bother with yours anymore because they don't need much correction - but another editor asked me to have a quick look at the particular way in which you write about marriages. I looked at a few of your new articles from the past three days, and there were four that had mentions of marriages. The first three each had one sentence that did not make sense:

  • Chris Cooper: "He was married to Marianne Leone since 1983."
  • Angélica Rivera: "Then she was married to Enrique Peña Nieto since 2010."
  • Tom Atkins: "Then he was married to Janice Atkins since 1986."

They didn't make sense because the use of "was" makes it seem like they're not married anymore. In the fourth article, César Évora, you phrased it perfectly: "Évora is currently married to Vivian Domínguez".

So if you replace "was" with something of the present tense (like "is currently" or even "has been"), then it works okay. Osiris (talk) 14:11, 14 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I see the notices from the other user. I agree with them in the first notice, where they want you to write: Smith has been married to Mary Jones since 1977. That's the best form. Osiris (talk) 17:36, 14 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
What the other user says in the second notice is also correct, when they say... "If the two people are still married:
Do not say: John is married to Mary since 1960.
Say: John has been married to Mary since 1960."

movies by actor categories

Hi, TDKR. When you create a category like Category:Movies starring John Ratzenberger, please include a DEFAULTSORT, just like in an article about the person. Thanks! --Auntof6 (talk) 23:08, 2 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Did you have a source for adding Category:People from Madrid to this article? All I see, in the simple and the enwiki articles, is that he died there. That does indicate that he was from there. --Auntof6 (talk) 07:23, 11 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Another reminder -- at least three entries in new categories

Please remember that you need at three entries for each new category. The category Category:People from Tuscumbia, Alabama, which you recently created, has only two entries. I see that it was created with the "popcat" tag, which indicates that this was not an oversight. You have been told about this requirement at least twice before. Please do not create categories until there are at least three entries for them. --Auntof6 (talk) 02:30, 15 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Categories "by xxx"

Thanks for the new category, Category:People from Illinois by city. This kind of category ("x by y") is called a "parent category". When you create a parent category (one of my favorite things to do!), please note the following:

  • Use a sort key starting with a space for the appropriate category. For example, this new category was in Category:People from Illinois. The sort key for that could be either just a space, or " city" (a space followed by the word "city"). The sort key should never be the entire name of the category.
  • Add the template {{parent category}} to the top of the the category page.
  • Where possible, include one of the categories shown at Category:Categories by topic.

Thanks, and feel free to let me know if you have any questions. --Auntof6 (talk) 20:58, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Actor categories

In a few of your articles about actors, I've seen you add categories for types of work that don't seem to apply. For example, in Ben Johnson, you included categories for voice, stage, and radio work. When you use those categories, please be sure that the person actually did that type of work. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 19:24, 2 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your Chicago stub template

You might not have known, but here on Simple English Wikipedia we require new stub types to be approved before they are created. I have redirected your new template to Template:US-stub. Please do not create new stub types, stub templates, or stub categories without having them discussed and approved at Wikipedia talk:Simple Stub Project. Thank you. --Auntof6 (talk) 01:48, 4 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please use shorter sentences

Hi, TDKR. Your articles have been looking pretty good lately! One thing I still see is that your sentences need to be shortened. A few of us have mentioned this to you before. Here are some examples of what I'm talking about, using sentences from your recent article Thomas E. Donilon.

  • Sentence from article: "Thomas E. "Tom" Donilon (born May 14, 1955) is the National Security Advisor in the Obama Administration, and has had a career as a U.S. political advisor, government official and lawyer."
Simplified with shorter sentences: Thomas E. "Tom" Donilon (born May 14, 1955) is the National Security Advisor in the Obama Administration. He has had a career as a U.S. political advisor, government official and lawyer.
  • Sentence from article: Previously, he served together with diplomat Wendy Sherman as Agency Review Team Lead for the State Department in the Obama transition, and as Deputy to National Security Advisor James Jones early in the Obama administration.
Simplified with shorter sentences: Previously, he served together with diplomat Wendy Sherman as Agency Review Team Lead for the State Department in the Obama transition. He was also Deputy to National Security Advisor James Jones early in the Obama administration.

For people with lower English skills, it's helpful if the sentences are short so they can read and try to understand a little bit at a time. That's why we want the sentences shorter. It's not just about using simple words. Please keep this in mind. Thanks! --Auntof6 (talk) 05:13, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Another good thing that you can do is you can make more sentences and make them longer; however, the sentences have to be simple for reading. Thanks. curtaintoad | chat me! 05:17, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Are you saying to make sentences longer? The sentences should be shorter. Shorter sentences are simpler to read. That's the whole point of what I wrote. --Auntof6 (talk) 05:31, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Are you sure you know how to add a signature (your username, followed by date and time)? Sometimes it seems that you might not really know: [3] [4] [5]

The correct way to add a signature is to type ~~~~. It consists of 4 special characters called tildes. Alternatively, click the signature icon: or . --Chenzw  Talk  03:10, 8 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sort keys and DEFAULTSORT

I have corrected the sorting for category Category:People from Lewiston, Maine that you created. Please look at it to see what I did. First, a category like that does not need a DEFAULTSORT, so I removed it. In any case, the sort key on the only category kept it from being used. However, the value you specified in the DEFAULTSORT was OK for Category:People from Maine, so I changed the sort key on that category. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 05:50, 11 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

DYK

Just because there are no (or few) hooks on the DYK page it does not mean that you have to flood it with nominations. We still have four queues to get through (around a month's worth of updates!) so there is no rush. Please also remember that the three hook limit remains even though the categories have gone (Although that limit does seem fairly arbitrary, in fairness.). Please try to spread out new nominations over - at least - a few days, as approved hooks cannot be moved to a queue for at least three days either. Gandolfini

I left some comments on the article's talk page. Let's keep the conversation there.

By the very, I notice that your talk page is getting long. Did you know there is a bot that will archive things from user talk pages based on limits you specify? It doesn't just delete things, it moves them to subpages so you can still look at them later. Let me know if you'd like me to help set that up for your talk page. --Auntof6 (talk) 22:39, 22 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like that please. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 23:00, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
OK. The way you do it is to put a template on your talk page, with parameters to tell the archiving bot how to manage the archiving. The archiving bot archives whole sections based on the last date and time in each section. The main things you need to decide are:
  • How long (in hours or days) sections should stay on your talk page after the last post in them
  • How you want your talk pages archives organized: you can have a new archive page created every time the archive runs, or each subpage can have a month's worth or a year's worth or data or something like that.
  • What you want your archive pages to be named: each new one can have a counter in the name, or you can put the year and/or the month in the name.
There are other things you can specify, but I think those are the basic ones. The template to use is User:MiszaBot/config. It gives some examples and info about the other options. You can also look at the pages that link there for more examples, but you probably don't want to exactly copy someone else's example exactly because it will have their user name in it. If that gives you enough info to set this up yourself, then go for it! If you want help figuring out exactly what to put on your talk page, then answer the questions above and let me know. --Auntof6 (talk) 00:38, 6 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please simplify when bringing articles from enwiki

The three articles you recently created about South African politicians still had the original complex text from the enwiki articles. When you bring an article from enwiki (or anywhere else), it is not enough to just remove parts of it. You also need to simplify the language in the parts that are left. I have requested QD for those articles. If you want to simplify them, add the {{wait}} tag and go ahead. --Auntof6 (talk) 22:05, 29 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

movies and TV program articles

Hi, TDKR. I have some minor notes about your recent articles about American movies and television series

Linking to "American"

You linked "American" to "Americans", like this:

[[Americans|American]]

That should really be linked like this:

[[United States|American]]

The article Americans is about American people, not other things that are American.

Establishment/disestablishment categories

You added establishment and disestablishment categories to TV series articles. Those don't apply to television series. For the year a series starts, you can add a category like Category:1987 television series. (We should probably changed that to something like Category:1987 television series debuts.) We don't have categories for the year a series ended. If you want to create them, you could follow enwiki's lead and call them something like Category:2010 television series endings. If you would like to tackle this, let me know if you want some help.

DEFAULTSORT/sort keys

When you specify a defaultsort, please note the following:

  • If the article title begins with the word a, an, or the, move that word to the end of the sort key.
  • If the article title has a qualifier, leave that out of the sort key. An example of a qualifier is the word "movie" in parentheses in The Conjuring (movie).

As an example, the defaultsort for the movie I just mentioned would be written like this:

{{DEFAULTSORT:Conjuring, The}}

Titles in italics

Please be sure to put movie and TV program titles in italics in the text of the article, every place they are mentioned. You're doing a good job of remembering to include the {{italictitle}} template, but that just makes the title appear in italics at the top of the page. It also needs to be in italics in the article text.

Thanks, and feel free to let me know if you have any questions. --Auntof6 (talk) 06:34, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Mandela

Hi mate. The article looks pretty good, but it needs copy-editing. I noticed a few spelling mistakes and missing words, so proof-reading the article and fixing any mistakes you find would be helpful for later. There are also a fair number of terms in there that need linking to either what is already an article (like nationalist and democratic socialist) or what should be an article (like Thembu and Xhosa). Don't be afraid to have a few red links for the moment – most complex terms will need linking. You may also need to look at the referencing: for example, there is cited a 'Sampson 2011' in shorthand footnoting, but there is no matching reference. You took it from the English Wikipedia, I'm assuming. When you click the link on 'Sampson 2011' on there, it takes you to a detailed reference. There are also some dead links. I haven't read it through fully, but will do so during this week when I have some time. Let me know if you have any questions about anything I've said here. Regards, Osiris (talk) 21:19, 11 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Mandela comments from Auntof6

Like Osiris said, it needs some copy editing for grammar and spelling. There are also some incomplete sentences. If you have access to word processing software like Word, try putting the text into it to see where it flags grammatical errors. It won't find them all, but it should help. Wikipedia:How to write Simple English pages can also help.

A lot of the sentences could be shorter. Each sentence should be about one thing. One way to spot sentences that can be shorter is to look for sentences that have more than one clause. That includes many sentences that have "but" or "however" in the middle. Sentences like that can usually be split into two or more sentences. This can also include many, but not all, sentences that have "and" in the middle. If the "and" is for a list, then it would not apply. If it's for two different statements, then it could. Some things that could be shorter are:

  • Several of the bulleted items in the "Honors" section, because some of them mention more than one award
  • The second sentence in the "Movie portrayals" section

Here are a few specific places that could be simplified:

  • "Anti-apartheid activity" section, first sentence: One or more words are missing at the beginning.
  • "Early life" section, first sentence:
Mandela was born in 18 July 1918 at Mvezo, a village in Umtata (now Mthatha), capital of the Transkei region of South Africa next to Mbashe River.
It should be "in" Mvezo, not "at". It should be "on 18 July", not "in". You also don't need so much description of the village. If readers want to know more about the village, they can go to that article. It would be enough to say "Mandela was born on 18 July 1918 in Mvezo, Umtata, South Africa.".
  • "Presidency" section, second sentence:
Soon afterwards, Mandela's inauguration took place in Pretoria on 10 May 1994.
First, it would be better to say "his" instead of "Mandela's", because he is already mentioned by name in the sentence just before this one. Also, it's not necessary to say "soon afterwards", because the reader can see that the dates were close. Last, "was" is simpler than "took place".

I'm not giving you every place that could be improved, because I'd rather help you learn how to recognize those places yourself. Look at the notes you've been given, and try to find other places in the article that have similar issues. After you address some of these, reply here with any questions you have. --Auntof6 (talk) 22:13, 11 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Well I'm not sure how to copy-edit. Oregonian was kind enough to simplify the meaning, but I don't know the areas I need to work on. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 00:23, 14 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it requires a understanding grasp of English grammar and style. People can point out areas that need copy editing, even tell you some specifics, but if you don't have a feel for it, you might not be able to do it yourself. I'll take a look when I have more time. --Auntof6 (talk) 02:37, 14 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Oregonian2012

I've retired. I'm 63, the survivor of two heart attacks, a disabled and decorated Vietnam vet, and a former government worker. I'm mentally ill and suicidal. My doctors, psychiatrists, social workers, case workers, family and friends have urged me to do something like Simple English. I can do it in my wheelchair and have had hours of fun. However, I do not have the patience for the high school mentality of this place. I get the idea from Auntof6 that part of our job here is to "mother" the high schoolers. To"nuture" them. Forget it. That's not me. I've seen too much horror. I'm used to adult behavior and company. There are a few good people here. People who are wise and competent. However, most of those "center stage" here are sticking their incompetent two cents into everything and are nothing more than boring high schoolers. I'm not used to hanging out with youngsters, game-playing mothers, and clerks like you, Auntof6, and Goblin. They give me the creeps. I've retired. I'm not coming back. Oregonian2012 (talk) 00:43, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Aside from the fact that I'm nearly 21 and at University and not solely a clerk, I think you've missed the point. There's no need to retire, and there's no need to 'mother' anyone. However, we are accommodating to everyone, and we have rules and policies in place for good reason. It's disappointing that you've decided to leave, but I think I'm probably wasting my words if I try and persuade you otherwise, so I'm going to leave it at that. I will be removing individual people from the categories that do not include a cause of death, and deleting categories that end up without enough entries. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 08:54, 21 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Samuel Barber and Adagio for Strings

Thanks for these two new articles. Unfortunately, the one about the composer was text from English Wikipedia that had not been simplified, so the article has been deleted. The article on Adagio for Strings has been simplified somewhat, but still needs more simplifying. Please take care of that. Here are some specific notes that might help:

  • Sentences are too long
  • Specific words and phrases that could be simplified include "choral arrangement" and "can be heard"

Although simplification should NOT be done in quotes, the text in the quote of the Adagio article is complex and our readers could have trouble understanding it. You might want to either leave the quote out or paraphrase instead of quoting.

Feel free to ask if you have any questions. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 08:09, 20 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A boy doesn't fly the gay flag if he's not "looking". TDKR Chicago 101, I honestly think you are too immature for this project. You're creating a lot of tiresome work for others. Poor Auntof6, she has to review almost everything you post. I saw the business about Samuel Barber and the Adagio for strings. I couldn't believe it. You don't learn from the experience and wisdom of others trying to help you. You make the same mistakes over and over. I can't believe you are flying the gay flag from your user page. I can't believe you have told stranger danger that you live in Chicago, youre name is Lenin, and you're a teenager! Don't you know perverts and child molesters prowl around sites like this looking for foolish teens like you? They know your name, your age, where you live, and your sexuality. Believe me, a determined pervert with child sexual torture and murder on his or her mind will find you with just the little personal information you've posted. You lack the maturity to perceive the danger you are putting yourself in and others, such as loved ones at home and this project. You need a mentor, a guide, someone to protect your best interests when making decisions. There are some here who are leading you astray. Avoid them. Contact a good admin and ask for a trustworthy mentor. Good luck! Oregonian2012 (talk) 22:57, 20 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Tagging recent deaths

Please stop putting the {{recent death}} tag on all articles of people who died recently. It isn't needed in every case. The documentation for that template explains this. Please take a look at the articles in Category:Recent deaths and take some or all of the tags off -- all but one of the articles there had the tag placed by you. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 03:05, 22 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You're continuing to use the recent death tag too much. Please stop. Please look at the template documentation for more information. --Auntof6 (talk) 03:34, 5 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry. I'm just going to add them when there's no exact cause of death, place, or id date is disputed. Sounds good? --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 14:25, 5 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Almost. Read the documentation again. I don't think any brand new article should need it. How about if you don't use it at all unless you see people disagreeing about one of those things on here -- not in the press, but here. --Auntof6 (talk) 18:21, 5 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The tag wasn't needed on Joan Fontaine, and probably wasn't needed on the other articles currently in Category:Recent deaths. Since you don't have a good feel for when to use the tag and when not to, I'd rather see you not use it at all than leave us a cleanup task. --Auntof6 (talk) 07:05, 19 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I added the tag on Peter O'Toole because his cause of death was unclear and there were some debates on the date of his death. Same went for Ronnie Biggs his death cause was unclear. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 22:42, 19 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I can sort of understand that, but the tag is only supposed to be used when a lot of people are making conflicting edits about a death. I don't see that with any of these. If you consistently removed these tags after a day or two, I wouldn't be as concerned, but they stay on quite a bit longer. Please read the documentation on the template, as I asked you to do before. If it doesn't make sense to you, let me know -- maybe it needs simplifying or something. --Auntof6 (talk) 00:46, 20 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You deserve this

The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
I know you already have four of these, but you deserve another one. You're one of the Simple English Wikipedia's most prolific editors to articlespace, and it's astounding the number of articles you've created. Keep up the great work! TCN7JM 02:19, 23 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sentence clauses

Hi TDKR! I hope everything is going well. One tip for keeping articles simple is to try and reduce the amount of clauses in each sentence. A simple sentence has only one clause. See my edit here for a simple example. My edit here turned compound sentences into simple sentences, and my edit here turned complex-compound sentences into simple sentences.

Also, do you remember this, where we were talking about the right place for a stub tag to go? It should go at the very end, after the categories. Also, try to add double line breaks to separate the stub message from the actual article text, unless there is an object to divide them already (like a navigational box or something). Osiris (talk) 05:58, 26 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the advice. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 03:38, 27 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Unitarians

I see that you created Category:Unitarians. It is not good to put people in a religion category without some mention of their religion in the text, so please try to do more than just add the category to the articles. Also, if you mention the person's religion in an article, please try to include a reference for it. That's a requirement for biographies of living people, but a good practice for all biographies. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 08:36, 30 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry. I saw in the Unitarianism article it had some people listed there and I got the names there. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 08:42, 30 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I see. I still don't think it's good to just add a religion category to the articles with no mention in the text. Categorizing by religion can be tricky. Please see what you can do about references for this -- the enwiki article en:List of Unitarians, Universalists, and Unitarian Universalists seems to have a reference for each person, so maybe you could copy it from there. --Auntof6 (talk) 09:00, 30 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
First thing tomorrow, it's getting late up here in Chicago. Good night. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 09:04, 30 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good, thanks! --Auntof6 (talk) 09:26, 30 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This is a good article, but I think you need to reword the first sentence. "A movie long enough to be considered a movie" doesn't make sense. I'm not sure what it should say, but it needs to be changed. Just letting you know! --Auntof6 (talk) 03:29, 5 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Relative time references

Please avoid using words like "currently" in articles. For example, in Aleqa Hammond, it says "Currently the leader of the Siumut party". That kind of statement can become obsolete. Instead, you could say something like "became the leader of the Siumut party in 2009". I know the word "currently" was in the enwiki article, but we can fix it when we bring articles here. You can see en:WP:RELTIME for more info on this kind of thing. Thanks! --Auntof6 (talk) 04:44, 11 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Time-related statements

I was looking at some of the recent biographical articles you created, and I see statements such as "Luc-Adolphe Tiao (born 1954) is the Prime minister of Burkina Faso." With facts that will change with time (he will eventually be succeeded by someone else), it's better to state them differently. For example, in the article I just quoted, it would be better to say something like "he became Prime Minister of Burkina Faso on..." and give the date that he entered office. (In fact, it's better to start with a more generic statement, such as "John Doe is a British politician", and then give specifics about current and past offices.) The reason for this is so that the text doesn't go out of date. There is a guideline that explains this at en:WP:RELTIME. Please take this into account with any future articles you create, and go back and adjust the ones you already created. Thanks! --Auntof6 (talk) 01:27, 14 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I forgot I had already posted on the related topic above. Just be aware that this issue isn't just about specific words. --Auntof6 (talk)
Such as? Just to be clear before I screw up again. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 01:41, 14 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The guideline I linked to explains it. It might help to remember that these are encyclopedia articles, not news stories. They are meant to be read many times over the years, not to be read once and then be thrown away like a newspaper or magazine. --Auntof6 (talk) 02:01, 14 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
So the last part, you're saying I should add an Infobox or expand the articles? --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 02:03, 14 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't think I was saying that, although an infobox is usually good. What "last part" are you referring to? --Auntof6 (talk) 02:19, 14 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
This one -> "They are meant to be read many times over the years, not to be read once and then be thrown away like a newspaper or magazine", oh and I'm adding infoboxes with an other websites section maybe references. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 02:24, 14 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
What I meant by that is that, as much as possible, articles should be worded so that the things in them remain true. A statement like "John Doe is the mayor of Pleasantville" remains true only until John Doe leaves office -- somebody would have to change the article at that time. We want as few things as possible that we have to change in the future. --Auntof6 (talk) 02:33, 14 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

List

Here is the list. I won't tag them because it would be good to just get them fixed and I'd rather not add 30 pages to this month's clean up category.

It's possible that I missed some. You can check them for yourself here. If you need any help, let me know. Regards, Osiris (talk) 05:08, 16 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for following up on this. :) Osiris (talk) 03:45, 17 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

DYK

I put Heft and Big Ben in the DYK queue. Wilder and Gorbachev have been on the nomination page for quite a while. I'd say it's time to queue them as well. Kauffner (talk) 10:13, 21 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
