Administrator / Bureaucrat / Checkuser / Oversighter

There are many kinds of special permissions that users can be granted. These include:

  • Rollbacker is a user who can quickly revert changes by other users. See Wikipedia:Rollback feature.
  • Flood is a very short-term permission that a user can get from any administrator to make lots of small edits in a row. When using the flood permission, a user’s edits will be hidden from Special:RecentChanges.
  • Patroller is a user who can review new pages that other users make by marking them "patrolled". Any pages a patroller makes do not have to be reviewed by others.
  • Administrator (also called an "admin" or "sysop") is a user who can delete and protect pages and block users. Admins can also grant the rollback, flood and patroller permissions.
  • Bureaucrat (also called a "crat") is a user who can grant and revoke the admin and bot permissions.
  • Checkuser is a user who can see private information about editors (for example, their IP addresses).
  • Oversight is a user who can hide private information from everyone except other oversighters, stewards and founders.
  • Transwiki importer is a user who has use of the import tool to move pages here from other projects. This is not to be confused with importer, who can upload XML files using the import tool. Importer is not granted on this wiki.
  • Uploader is a user who can upload files locally on this wiki. This permission is granted temporarily and will be removed once the task is complete.

Adding a new request

You must be an active member of Simple English Wikipedia, preferably with some experience in reverting vandalism.

Rollback must never be used to revert in edit wars, or to remove good-faith changes. Use the undo feature for this, and give a reason. Rollback does not let you give a reason when reverting. It must only be used to revert bad changes. It can and will be revoked if misused.

Requests for the temporary (short-term) flood permission should be made on an administrator’s talk page, on the #wikipedia-simple connect irc channel, or at the Administrators' noticeboard.

Requests for temporary (short-term) file upload permissions should be made on the Administrators' noticeboard. An administrator should be notified once the uploads are done so that the permission can be removed.

Please read the Criteria for administratorship before nominating another user or yourself, to make sure the nominated user meets the criteria for becoming an administrator. You may want to look at the archives first so you can see why other people’s requests have succeeded or failed.

Administrator tools are there to better help the community. They do not make certain users better than others. To nominate a candidate for adminship, please follow these instructions:

  1. In the input box below, replace USERNAME with the username of the person you are nominating for adminship.
  2. Complete the fields given to you.
  3. Once the user has accepted, add {{Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/<insert name of person nominated>}} underneath the Current requests for adminship heading below, at the very top of the list.
  4. Optional: Add {{rfa-notice}} to the candidate's userpage.

Notes: This is not the place to get "constructive feedback from others", if you want feedback from others in a less formal environment, please see Editor Review. If a candidate is successful, an administrator or bureaucrat should add them to MediaWiki:Gadget-HighlightAdmins.js.

Bureaucrat, Checkuser, or Oversight

For the bureaucrat, checkuser, or oversight permission, a user first needs to be an administrator. There are special requirements at Criteria for administratorship for these users.

Current requests for rollback

User:Tulsi Bhagat

Hello there! Previously, I've requested for rollback permission on 9 Dec. 2015, and didn't succeed. At that time, i was new and inexperienced but i have worked here for a while now. Using TW is bit uneasy for me due to slow internet connectivity. I believe, this permission will make my work easier & more convenient. My changes: I am checking new pages and changes, tagging inappropriate pages for QD and reverting vandalism and/or unhelpful changes. I am patroller, rollbacker @commons and also rollbacker @enwiki. Please see Special:CentralAuth/Tulsi Bhagat. Kind regards, — Tulsi Bhagat (contribs | talk) 09:04, 28 April 2019 (UTC)
Done Good reverts. Good faith activity. Operator873talkconnect 02:12, 29 April 2019 (UTC)

I'd like rollback to make reverting easier. I currently have rollback rights on the English wikipedia, and have been active here for a while (>300 edits). I leave warnings for users, and know when to use Twinkle to mark edits as vandalism (and candidates for using rollback) and when to use the normal or good-faith undo functions. • Support --Eihel (talk) 07:36, 8 April 2019 (UTC)
Thanks, Eihel, but just so you know, this is not a vote like requests for adminship. --Auntof6 (talk) 09:32, 8 April 2019 (UTC)
I know (it's marked in title). My approach is deliberate, Auntof6. --Eihel (talk) 09:45, 8 April 2019 (UTC)
If you are aware then please don't do it. -DJSasso (talk) 13:34, 8 April 2019 (UTC)
Done No issues, although I'm remembering (jokingly) how you dropped my CVUA course on enwiki right before the final exam...Thanks, Vermont (talk) 16:51, 8 April 2019 (UTC)
@Vermont: Oh my god I completely forgot about that. Do you want me to take it? --DannyS712 (talk) 17:55, 8 April 2019 (UTC)
@DannyS712: No need; you'd obviously pass. Vermont (talk) 18:00, 8 April 2019 (UTC)

I am requesting access to the rollback feature to assist me in anti-vandal cases where the user or IP has made multiple vandalism edits in a row. I have been very active in anti-vandalism work and it is the main thing I do here. I have read and understood WP:RBK and I know how to tell the difference between bad faith vandalism and good faith contributions. Examknowtalk 21:31, 21 May 2019 (UTC)
Done --Peterdownunder (talk) 21:35, 21 May 2019 (UTC)

The rollback feature would help me undo vandalism way more quickly. I understand WP:ROLLBACK and I have the rollback feature on the English Wikipedia.
You've engaged in a recent spree of anti-vandalism activities, and have experience reverting in the English Wikipedia. Hoping that you intend to keep helping out in the absence of our antivandalism bot, I'm granting you rollback permissions. Vermont (talk) 13:33, 25 June 2019 (UTC)

I would like to participate in vandal fighting here and the rollback right would make the task simpler. I have rollback rights on commons. 大诺史 (talk) 15:52, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
@大诺史: while I would be inclined to support based on your global contribs, I don't see a single undo made here on simple wikipedia. Can I suggest spending some time patrolling without rollback (twinkle / undo)? --DannyS712 (talk) 15:54, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
@DannyS712: There's twinkle here?!?! 大诺史 (talk) 15:55, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
Yes, and I am hoping to update it, but in its current form it still supports the normal AGF/normal/vandalism undos and warnings (and a few other things) --DannyS712 (talk) 15:56, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
@DannyS712: Alright, thank you. I'll prolly come back in a month or 2. 大诺史 (talk) 15:57, 13 July 2019 (UTC)

@大诺史: DannyS712 is not an admin and cannot decide whether you get rollback. @DannyS712: Non-admin comment is not really needed here and can in fact confuse things. If you must comment, please make it clear that your comments are just comments and are not to be taken as approval or denial.--Auntof6 (talk) 20:16, 13 July 2019 (UTC)

@Auntof6: sorry, I didn't realize it was unclear. I am not an admin, I just wanted to offer a suggestion. Apologies for the confusion. --DannyS712 (talk) 20:17, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
@Auntof6: Although I have little to not edits related to rollback/undo here, I do hope that you can assign me the right as I really do want to help out in vandal fighting and by having this right, it will be easier. 大诺史 (talk) 01:32, 14 July 2019 (UTC)

I'm going to go ahead and close this as X mark.svg Not done. You have no experience in antivandalism/rollback work here,(save for a handful of undos where you didn't warn the users) no userpage, few edits, and no experience on this project prior to you making this request. I'm glad that DannyS712 voiced his concerns, as everyone should have the opportunity to, although it would be optimal if non-admins noted that they were not administrators when commenting on permissions requests. Thank you for volunteering, Vermont (talk) 02:48, 14 July 2019 (UTC)

Current requests for patroller

I generally patrol new pages and tag quick-deletion-eligible pages for deletion, and it would help to be able to mark them as patrolled if there aren't any issues. I am a patroller on enwiki and commons. Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 05:39, 28 June 2019 (UTC)
I haven't had the chance to look through your edits yet but have you created many pages here yet? We use the patroller tag here somewhat differently than It has the same functions as but for us the main purpose is to auto mark peoples creations as patrolled so others don't have to patrol them. As such we tend not to give it out until we can see editors know how to write in Simple English and create articles here to our structure as opposed to how does it. I only ask because I hadn't yet seen you create any pages but I haven't had the time to look through your edits yet to find some examples. So this isn't a comment one way or the other about your request. (and I know I just imported a bunch for you to simplify so I know you intend to) -DJSasso (talk) 11:37, 28 June 2019 (UTC)
To be simple, the patroller here comes with autopatrol while en doesn't have, so it's best you can list some of your articles to see can it be autopatrolled. Reliable user for sure IMO. --Cohaf (talk) 13:09, 28 June 2019 (UTC)
So far, I've only made Suzan DelBene, but am planning to continue writing articles on all of the current members of the house, and then the senate. If you want to wait a bit, I understand. Thanks --DannyS712 (talk) 15:39, 28 June 2019 (UTC)
I had done some copyedit to make it simplier, hope the meaning is still there DannyS712 (Do revert if I screwed up, sorry). Overall I will say it's a nice piece of work. Just a question, did you translate from enwp, attribution should be given if you do (will translate is not enough). I added the attribution just in case. Thanks. --Cohaf (talk) 15:59, 28 June 2019 (UTC)
It was so long ago that I don't remember, but probably - thanks for adding that. For the rest of the representatives though I'm getting them imported and then simplifying, so that won't be an issue. Anyway, thanks for catching that --DannyS712 (talk) 16:06, 28 June 2019 (UTC)
I see, that's great. --Cohaf (talk) 16:10, 28 June 2019 (UTC)
