Ascension Island

Ascension Island is an island in the South Atlantic Ocean. It is about 1,600 km (990 mi) from the coast of Africa. It is a dependency of the British overseas territory of Saint Helena, which is 1.287 km (0.8 mi) to the southeast. The island is named after the day of its discovery, Ascension Day.
On the island is Wideawake Airfield, which run by the Royal Air Force and the United States Air Force.
