Welcome

Hello! I am assuming you have come over from the English Wikipedia, so you are probably familiar with the way this wiki works. I hope you like it here and decide to stay. Here are a few links to help you adjust:

There is much to do here. For example, there are a lot of articles that do not exist yet, which you can bring over from the English Wikipedia and simplify. Do have a look around and see what you would like to do. Thank you for joining us, and you know how to contact me if you need help. Hiàn (talk) 21:35, 12 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Hiàn: your assumption is correct; thanks for the warm welcome --DannyS712 (talk) 21:37, 12 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Missing map

I noticed you tried to make it blank if the map was missing. It is actually preferable to have the error message so that we know we need to create it. If you see one missing and you don't want to create it yourself just let me know and I will create it. -DJSasso (talk) 16:53, 3 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Djsasso: will do, thanks. I don't remember where I saw the error, but I'll remember this in the future. --DannyS712 (talk) 17:51, 3 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I think I found the one you saw and fixed it. I have reverted back to an older version that had a fallback in it to continue working if it had the old system until I get all our templates converted. -DJSasso (talk) 17:53, 3 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Reverted my change

Hello! Why you reverted my change with Template:Infobox rocket? It is only in use with the Space Shuttle article. I am just defining the terms hard to the readers (eg. Height, Diameter, Mass etc.).

—Your's sincerely, Soumya-8974 (talk) 05:20, 4 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think those terms are "hard to the readers", and the point of a template is for it to be reused in other articles, even if its only used once currently. --DannyS712 (talk) 18:40, 4 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

vandalism and due diligence

Hi Danny, I don't know if you're having an off day or what but you restored a ton of vandalism by undoing my redirects, which were fixing garbage from an LTA and requesting deletion of clearly notable (Grammy or platinum certified) musical artists (en:Sevendust, en:Matchbook Romance, en:Method Man & Redman.) Please take more care when nominating things that are very clearly notable, even if the article needs work. Praxidicae (talk) 22:53, 4 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Praxidicae: sorry, I had a really stressful day and when I read the stubs I didn't do enough background research. But, I do believe that, in their current form, they do not have a claim of notability - I'll work on them to change that. Sorry, --DannyS712 (talk) 22:57, 4 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Common sense applies here, and then reverting my edit after that, which contained a very detailed explanation is a bit uncalled for. Just because the stubs don't explicitly state why something is notable, much like every other project, a 5 second search would have shown you that they are indeed notable and please look at the history of articles. I also find it helpful when evaluating articles outside of my home wiki to check the wikidata link on the side. If there are articles on numerous projects, there's a good chance they're notable.Praxidicae (talk) 23:01, 4 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Will do, sorry. --DannyS712 (talk) 23:02, 4 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
cc Macdonald-ross (talk · contribs). Those articles claimed notability and are easily notable subjects. Short articles don't constitute a lack of notability. They were LTA creations made into one-sentence stubs that can be formatted and expanded in time. There's an increasing problem of A4's being used for articles that are deemed to be not notable rather than those that don't have claims. However, these subjects all have significant articles on the English Wikipedia. Thanks, Vermont (talk) 23:50, 4 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I agree. Macdonald-ross (talk) 07:01, 5 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

twinkle redesign

Here are some mockups I made of possible GUI changes:

Do you like them, or any ideas? Or do you think they should be implemented Computer Fizz (talk) 09:25, 13 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Computer Fizz: both of those would be really hard to implement - the UI is based on morebits.js. But, I can update the functionality. --DannyS712 (talk) 22:07, 13 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I posted three images, so what do you mean by 'both'? Which one is the functionality? Computer Fizz (talk) 01:32, 14 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Computer Fizz: sorry, I'm tired. All 3 of those are UI based. By updating the functionality, I mean updating the current functions. Sorry --DannyS712 (talk) 01:35, 14 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
So are they not updatable without changing morebits? I wouldn't think they'd be since twinkle offers multiple kinds of dialogs already but if it is would it be possible to expand that? Computer Fizz (talk) 01:38, 14 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Computer Fizz: since I know nothing about how morebits works, the only way I could do that (that I can think of) is to fork the current enwiki version of twinkle, and adapt it to here. --DannyS712 (talk) 01:44, 14 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Computer Fizz The first one is sort of doable, the second one is impossible. The third one, may be possible depending on which skin you are using. Also, you could check out User:DannyS712/Quick-Undo which bypasses the Publish Changes page when performing a normal undo :)  — FR 06:40, 14 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Fr30799386: Why is the second one impossible? Seems like it's just the same as all other TW dialogs. Computer Fizz (talk) 11:49, 14 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Computer Fizz, The simple.wikipedia.org says dialog is a prompt dialog, one that is in built into the browser. Besides completely rebuilding the dialog from scratch (which would take non-trivial coding and probably not work as well the browser one for certain reasons) there is no way to modify that particular dialog.  — FR 15:29, 14 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@FR30799386: I just thought it would be simple enough to make since twinkle already has custom dialogs. but considering I couldn't even get an independent copy of Twinkle to run without errors, I'll take your word for it. Computer Fizz (talk) 18:29, 14 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah the part which I was saying would be hard/not worth changing is actually the UI. That is the part where we are very far apart from en.wiki. It is why I said we could probably patch in features if you wanted them but didn't mention UI. -DJSasso (talk) 15:35, 14 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Djsasso: So what about the shift click and the 'more' thing, would that be possible? Computer Fizz (talk) 18:29, 14 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

August (continued)

@DannyS712: I put two bugs with twinkle on ANI, but nobody replied. You want to try fixing them? Computer Fizz (talk) 01:32, 30 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, but...

...I was already fixing the page names. You need to give the page creator a little time to do that! --Auntof6 (talk) 04:47, 12 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Auntof6: sorry! I can look into fixing that part of TW, if you want. --DannyS712 (talk) 04:48, 12 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That would be great, if you are experienced with Twinkle code (I'm not). Another piece that could use fixing is that, when you RfD a template, it ignores the checkbox for adding noinclude tags around the RfD notice. --Auntof6 (talk) 04:51, 12 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Auntof6: I was looking into updating SEWP's version of twinkle - maybe I should just start from the current enwiki version, and adapt that. It might be easier --DannyS712 (talk) 04:52, 12 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Either way, you might want to discuss it first in a wider forum (like Simple talk). There have been issues in the past with maintaining our version. --Auntof6 (talk) 05:00, 12 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Question

Just a bit confused on why you reverted my change on Twenty-second Amendment to the United States Constitution. It says that it's in original text and not simple english, so I assumed that it was supposed to be changed to simple english? I probably misunderstood something, would really appreciate if you could take the time to explain. Thanks! AwesomestUser (talk) 01:37, 28 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Edit: @Computer Fizz: explained.

October 2019

Hello, DannyS712. When you revert a user's changes, like you did earlier, don't forget to leave the user a message on their talk page, especially when reverting vandalism or a test edit. You may find Template:User talk page warnings/table useful when doing this, to let them know that the change was considered inappropriate, and to direct them to the sandbox. Thank you. Examknowtalk 01:07, 2 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Examknow: I generally do. Also, can I suggest not "templating the regulars"? Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 01:08, 2 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry if I came of as rude. I just wanted to make sure that you remembered. I don't think you are doing anything wrong it was just a friendly suggestion. You can remove it if you would like. Cheers! Examknowtalk 01:49, 2 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Also thank you for adding to Linear combination. I would much rather have somebody like you edit it and make it good instead of it being deleted. Examknowtalk 01:49, 2 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No problem --DannyS712 (talk) 01:49, 2 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I dont know what consensus on this is, but I'm an advocate for templating the regulars. If the activities of a "regular" fall within that associated with a template, I don't see why they should be exempt from the same treatment everyone else gets. Obviously, this is provided that the template-adder is doing so in good faith, like here, and not to make a point. Best, Vermont (talk) 02:53, 2 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Vermont: I'll read this in a second, but mediawiki is flooded with vandalism and copyvio right now - can you take a look? --DannyS712 (talk) 02:54, 2 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I was in the middle of something. I agree that regulars can be templated, but I think that a warning isn't needed every time. Sorry if I came off as hostile; just wanted to point out that I know to generally leave a warning. Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 03:16, 2 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) @Vermont: I agree. I have never subscribed to en:WP:DTR, which is only an essay anyway, not a guideline. --Auntof6 (talk) 04:51, 2 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

patrolling

Categories: I saw that you marked Category:Tunisian songs as patrolled. If you're going to patrol categories, please make sure that they're set up appropriately. There were two issues with this category:

  • It was not properly categorized. One category (Songs by genre) was incorrect. The other (Songs) may have been overcategorization, depending on whether a more specific category could be found.
  • The category had only one entry in it. We want at least three entries in every category (with certain exceptions, such as maintenance categories). If you patrol a category like this, please mark it as underpopulated and leave a message for the creator.

User and user talk pages: I see that you have patrolled a lot of these. It is usually not necessary to patrol them.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. --Auntof6 (talk) 09:42, 13 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Auntof6: thanks for following up. I'll be more vigilant when it comes to categories. As for user (talk) pages, I try to patrol all new pages --DannyS712 (talk) 18:54, 13 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It's not necessary to patrol all page types but, just out of curiosity, what do you check for on all the various page types? If you're not making sure they are valid pages, correctly set up, properly categorized where applicable, in simple language where applicable, and whatever else is required for each type, then please don't patrol them. There's more to patrolling than just marking a page as patrolled. --Auntof6 (talk) 22:50, 13 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Well:
  • For user talk pages, its generally a warning using huggle/twinkle from a user that isn't autopatrol. If the warning was sent by a user I recognize, and the page looks normal, I patrol it
  • For user pages, if its not abusing wikipedia as a web host, and looks reasonable, I patrol it
  • For redirects, if the target makes sense, I patrol it
  • For wikipedia namespace pages (usually RfD), if the request seems to have been made correctly, and/or has had further discussion, it seems safe to patrol
  • For talk pages, if its abuse and I reset it or another user resets it to just {{Talk header}}, I then patrol it
  • For articles, I patrol those less, but I ensure that it has basic categories, tagged if needed, minor copyedit, etc and then patrol
Hope that helps, --DannyS712 (talk) 22:54, 13 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Dealing with LTAs

Hello. Please stop edit warring with LTAs. Billinghurst has talked with you on Wikisource about this. In the future, please wait for an administrator (and if one doesn't seem to be online, report it at VIP) to come by and deal with the LTA rather than constantly reverting their edits. There is no actual change, when you do this, other than increasing your edit count. The net result is the same, and it's simply a waste of time and WP:DENY. When it comes to reporting it on SRG, it's a misuse of steward time and resources, as you and I know very well that GRP uses IPs for about 5 minutes each. Accounts should, of course, be reported to be locked, but by the time anyone gets to an IP report it's stale. Please adjust your response to LTAs accordingly in the future. Regards, Vermont (talk) 10:10, 23 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Noted. I've been considering filing an RfA exactly so that I could be more useful with this. --DannyS712 (talk) 16:42, 23 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Creating an edit war with an LTA is, in my opinion, more of a negative than a show of need for the tool. Vermont (talk) 18:28, 24 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Most of the time they make 1 edit and then move on, so I didn't realize that it would end up in an edit war. I never intent to "create" an edit war. --DannyS712 (talk) 18:59, 24 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Changing "of" to "in"

Thanks for tackling these -- I've done a bunch of them myself in the past. Are you using any automation to change them, or are you doing them manually? If you use AWB, I could give you a regular expression that would automate the change. If you want, I could use AWB to go through them pretty fast myself. --Auntof6 (talk) 03:35, 23 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Last time I asked, I was told I couldn't use AWB. If I can, I'd like to. For now, its a custom user script --DannyS712 (talk) 03:48, 23 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I suspect it was that we wouldn't grant it for that task -- it isn't granted often. However, I already have it and would be willing to help if you want. --Auntof6 (talk) 01:03, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I've developed a user script that allows me to do it, but if you would be willing to grant me AWB access that would make this easier. Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 01:07, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sure --DannyS712 (talk) 18:58, 12 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
First Suggestion. Auntof6 mentioned that {{bio-stub}} isn't the best template to use, it is supposed to mean "Biography stub", this template (bio-stub) redirects to {{Biography-stub}}, which is fine, but causes confusion, so bio-stub on twinkle should be changed to biography-stub. Second I find it rude that Twinkle automatically assumes that IP Welcomes should be the problematic ones, and not the regular ones, Twinkle should give regular ones, then let you change to the welcome of your choice. Those are My Suggestions. --Thegooduser Let's Talk! :) 🍁 23:55, 12 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

That filter doesn't seem to be catching much (or maybe the abuse has subsided), and looks prone to false positives due to the quirky way in which added_lines is computed. Could you make me a userbox? --Thegooduser Let's Talk! :) 🍁 22:32, 12 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Probably, but I might not have a chance to do it soon, sorry DannyS712 (talk) 23:59, 12 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ok! No Rush on it, also Why does it say "31 Userbox" when I look at the edit history of this page? For the userbox can you put in it, "我只會講同聼懂廣東話。" and put on the left "Yue"(Babel style) Thanks --Thegooduser Let's Talk! :) 🍁 00:18, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
See phab:T264561 for the first part. For the second, I'll let you know when I have something, though just so you know this isn't a high priority for me DannyS712 (talk) 01:43, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks --Thegooduser Let's Talk! :) 🍁 01:54, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Danny, I hope you are doing well. Could you please restore this page when you have time? Although you were correct to mass delete that user's vandalism pages, I had cleaned up this one and it was fine. Thank you :). --IWI (talk) 12:38, 19 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

 Done DannyS712 (talk) 14:35, 19 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Wikidata

Since you are an administrator on Wikidata, I decided to ask you a question about pages in main namespace on Wikidata. What format are they written in (e.g. Wikitext, PHP, JSON, CSS, or JS?) It seems that not even admins can directly create pages in main namespace and unfortunately, a redirect from d:Main Page to d:Wikidata:Main Page is not possible and there is also no edit control on the top right corner. Special:EditPage doesn't work for main namespace on Wikidata. Also, why do all items begin with Q? Is this related to the MediaWiki software? --FdPATgg 😃 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 18:25, 11 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Wikidata uses the wikibase software, see d:Wikidata:Introduction DannyS712 (talk) 18:26, 11 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
So it's not in wikitext. BTW, is it possible to directly create items in the normal way? --FdPATgg 😃 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 18:29, 11 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure what you mean by "the normal way" - you can use d:Special:NewItem DannyS712 (talk) 18:31, 11 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Normal way as in that you can edit pages just like you can on most wikis. If you use d:Special:NewItem, do you get to choose the identifier of the number (The one beginning with Q?) And can you create pages not beginning with Q? --FdPATgg 😃 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 18:34, 11 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
All items start with Q, and you don't get to choose the number, it is assigned in the order items are created DannyS712 (talk) 18:35, 11 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
So this means that it's impossible to create pages not beginning with Q, and it's also impossible to create pages in the "normal" way, right? --FdPATgg 😃 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 18:39, 11 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
For the main namespace, yes --DannyS712 (talk) 18:40, 11 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thank you! --FdPATgg 😃 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 18:40, 11 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yesterday I found SIX (6) very bad usernames in the UCL, I couldn't report cause I was at school, can I report them to VIP now? (I have a feeling an LTA made those usernames) --Thegooduser Let's Talk! :) 🍁 21:53, 21 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Thegooduser I think I know those you meant, I reported to stewards and all globally locked. Someone else also try to report on metawiki too. CM-Public (talk) 21:57, 21 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
CM-Public Just so we're on the same page, all six of them were made within 5 minutes, and had reference to Wikimedia, that's all I'll say. --Thegooduser Let's Talk! :) 🍁 21:58, 21 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Thegooduser Yes, it is those. Per DENY I will not say more. CM-Public (talk) 21:59, 21 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure, but I would check if they have already been globally locked (and hidden) first - if you see "There is no global account for..." at Special:CentralAuth, they were already taken care of by stewards and don't need further action (if its the 6 accounts I think it is, 5 are hidden and the sixth is locked but not hidden, so no further action is needed) --DannyS712 (talk) 21:59, 21 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I think we're all good here, CentralAuth said no information, so it's been resolved. Thanks --Thegooduser Let's Talk! :) 🍁 22:01, 21 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

New vandal

Ibaman (talk • contribs • CA • deleted contribs • nuke contribs • logs • filter log • block user • block log) This editor has been vandalising Wikipedia and trolling on Eddie Van Halen related pages, spreading fake rumours and making hoaxes. Please block him. I informed Bsadowski1 about it but he ignored the report. Users have been warning this user on the English Wikipedia not to vandalise, even here. He ignored the warnings he has been given so please block him indefinitely because his account is being used only for vandalism. Thank you, Danny. 89.168.0.195 (talk) 22:26, 7 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but you are the one that appears to be vandalizing, not Ibaman - please stop DannyS712 (talk) 22:31, 7 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
yeah, thanks for protecting the page, Danny. Ibaman (talk) 23:29, 7 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Re

Can you verify that the IP you just unblocked, isn't an open proxy? --Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 02:13, 15 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure if its an open proxy, and not well suited to check --DannyS712 (talk) 02:13, 15 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, what do you mean by 'not well suited to check'? There is a proxy checker function on the contribs page, but I'm not sure how to work it, or if it's up to date, etc. --Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 02:17, 15 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly - you and I can both use that same proxy checker function on the contribs page, but I can't confirm if it is accurate or not - if you think its an open proxy, feel free to report to VIP or SRG --DannyS712 (talk) 02:19, 15 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ohhhh, I understand what you meant now! I think I'll hold it off now, however this person has been hopping different IP's various times, to re create the article or to harass, ever since their articles were deleted via AfD. --Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 02:22, 15 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Question for you

Hey what is the typical sense of having pages like list of nbc shows, list of HBO shows, etc.? I see them coming up more now on SEWP but not sure if they can be tagged for anything. What advice can you give? PotsdamLamb (talk) 05:06, 24 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure - I suggest asking at simple talk instead, I'm not the most familiar with the relevant rules --DannyS712 (talk) 05:10, 24 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ok thanks! PotsdamLamb (talk) 05:30, 24 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi DannyS712, Not sure how to go about this on Simple English I just saw you name as an active admin and I think I have seen you around En Wiki. The above article has been re-created under many titles on English Wiki and is now salted. There is an SPI involving the editors who have edited that article here (there is long archive of previous socks all about the same topic) Can you take a peek in case any action is needed here JW 1961 Talk 20:07, 17 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Request

Hi DannyS712, Would it be possible for you to make a userscript for me if it's okay? Thanks --Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 21:48, 4 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@つがる maybe, it depends on what userscript you want. I probably won't have time the next few days anyway, but if you tell me what you want now I can start thinking about it DannyS712 (talk) 22:01, 4 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It has to do with Twinkle's Rfd nominating module. I wanted a script to be added, where it will log the Rfd request in one of my userpages. But I'm not sure if this is very possible to do without affecting the entire Twinkle Interface. --Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 22:05, 4 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The enwiki version of Twinkle already does this. Instead of spending time developing ours, we should update ours based on the latest enwiki version (with all of the needed simplewiki changes includes) - its on my long-term TODO list. For now, I don't think doing this as a user script is a good idea, so sorry, but no --DannyS712 (talk) 22:07, 4 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, DannyS712. That's fine. I'll just do it manually then. Thank you for your time. :) --Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 22:16, 4 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Cream of Wheat

Dear DannyS712,

I guess I am now an admin! Or, the more likely explanation is what you said about edit conflict,

Blessings,

Yaakov W.Yaakov Wa. (talk) 22:30, 22 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Yaakov Wa.: Why would you think you became an admin? Since the edit wasn't made with Twinkle, you should have gotten a notice telling you that the article was deleted while you were edited, and asking to confirm if you wanted to recreate the page --DannyS712 (talk) 22:31, 22 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Danny,
Just a joke. Thanks for your explanation!
Blessings,

Abuse filter

Hi Danny. I notice you've done some adjustments to filter 88 recently, and I think it is causing some collateral damage (see https://simple.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:AbuseLog&wpSearchUser=Durantnba ). I can't see the abuse filter log for obvious reasons but the user definitely isn't acting like the LTA the abuse filter is intending to block. Can you please take a look? Thanks! --Ferien (talk) 21:01, 29 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Ferien:  Done, though those should not have been tripping the filter in the first place... thanks. @Durantnba: I'm sorry your edits were not going through, we were dealing with a very persistent vandal earlier and the filter was slightly broader than it should have been. --DannyS712 (talk) 00:48, 30 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, thanks Danny and Ferien. Durantnba (talk) 01:18, 30 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Point of interest

  • One can't block an IP indefinitely even if it edits under an unregistered name. "My test tick all's keep going up and down" is an unregistered IP. He's not going to use that moniker a second time, so give him a week or a month as an IP. Macdonald-ross (talk) 12:50, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Macdonald-ross: um, what? You can block an IP indefinitely, though you shouldn't, but thats not what I did - I blocked the registered account indefinitely. I'm not a CU, so I don't know what the underlying ip is to block that --DannyS712 (talk) 12:54, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Neither am I! If you press on the label 'User page' for such people it will say "WP does not have a user page with this name". That means he's an IP using a name as a cover. If you block the IP it will follow him even if he changes his pseudonym. Admittedly, this is limited by the existence of floating IPs, but they are not (I hope!) available in schools! Macdonald-ross (talk) 13:16, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Macdonald-ross: But I can't block the IP, since I don't know what it is. "Wikipedia does not yet have a user page with this name." just means they didn't create a user page, and has nothing to do with what ip is being used - all accounts are really IPs using a name as a cover. --DannyS712 (talk) 13:19, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
