Well, thanks indeed... but do you think the flag could come off?! It's full of tasty DYKs... Macdonald-ross (talk) 20:35, 8 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Removed the flag. :) - Are there "prominent" animals that are not based on oxygen, and that live in that basin? - IDK, like some bacteria based around a salt metabolism? --Eptalon (talk) 20:39, 8 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There is now an end section 'Life without oxygen' which lists organisms living in the basin; none other than the Loriciferan species are animals. There are plenty of halophile bacteria and archaea, and quite a few which are anaerobic. These conditions were common in the Archaean and NeoProterozoic Earth. There are plenty of single-celled eukaryotes in the transitional incline zone above the basin. Metazoa, such as animals, evolved in the (partially) oxygenated Neoproterozoic era, and hence the surprise at finding them in the basin. Their Krebs cycle and mitochondria were thought to be entirely oxygen-dependent. I've spare the readers these fascinating tit-bits! Macdonald-ross (talk) 09:05, 20 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! We actually went through a lot of drama about that page Eptalon, and it was decided to make it a disambiguation page fr33kman 11:26, 17 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Drama here fr33kman 11:27, 17 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm beginning to like this one for GA, after it gets DYK. It's your baby, and I've added useful stuff. Macdonald-ross (talk) 08:44, 20 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the additions. IMO, a lot more can be added (by a specialit, which I am not). So go ahead, and feel free... :) --Eptalon (talk) 19:18, 20 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Protocarnivorous plants[change source]

I also read this, and thought there were too many unresolved issues for this wiki. And, the term is not a standard one in botany. The main page Carnivorous plant says everything any biology student needs to know up to degree level, and beyond that is not worth our time. Incidentally, I would have preferred the title 'Insectivorous plants', but decided not to pursue it. Macdonald-ross (talk) 20:54, 20 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is probably a minor formatting issue, and rather insignificant, but I'll tell you anyway. For the archives, when you put {{Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/archives}}

{{talkarchive}}
== Issue == it makes a weird arrangement of the talkheader and archive navbox on my Google Chrome. So could you switch it around to {{talkarchive}}
{{Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/archives}}
== Issue == instead? That is, if you have the time. :| TelCoNaSpVe :| 14:51, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, erm, could you do for the rest of the archives, not just the first one? Thanks for all your help. :| TelCoNaSpVe :| 19:49, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
let's look for a bot, there are like 33 AN, and like 85 ST pages...--Eptalon (talk) 20:05, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like iI fixed all of the AN variety...--Eptalon (talk) 21:08, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for all your time. I've had Sonia and OpenBot fix the Simple Talk archives, but it looks like they skipped Archives 26 and 27. Those are the only archives that I know of that are left without the talkheader and/or needs fixing. :| TelCoNaSpVe :| 21:26, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

(<-) fixed the two, to look like the others.--Eptalon (talk) 21:55, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Snow algae[change source]

That's certainly something! I would imagine it's the ultraviolet radiation which is the danger, not the heat. It smashes chromosomes & DNA, causing mutations. Macdonald-ross (talk) 05:38, 28 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've taken the liberty of fusing the page with material from two others on enWP with similar content. Hope this doesn't offend you! The intention was to avoid lots of small, similar stubs. The page is now called Snow and ice algae. Macdonald-ross (talk) 07:10, 28 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Aqua fortis[change source]

It does not really have to do with alchemy; it is just a solution of nitric acid. It can dissolve silver but not gold; so it was used as a test for gold, hence the term acid test. --Chemicalinterest (talk) 21:22, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I added a mention of it to nitric acid. --Chemicalinterest (talk) 21:25, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Quick deletion of Template:More[change source]

The page you wrote, Template:More, has been selected for quick deletion. This is because the page was deprecated or replaced by a newer template and are completely unused and not linked to. If you think this page should be kept, please add {{wait}} below the line {{QD}} and say why on the talk page. If the page is already gone, but you think this was an error, you can ask for it to be undeleted. Hazard-SJ Talk 21:18, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi must be blocked. I think someone must protect the talk page of wiooiw, do you think so? Nataly8 (talk) 13:31, 15 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've protected it for 24 hours, as I think there's no net positive from letting the proxies have at it. Please revert if you disagree- it's my first protection. sonia 13:39, 15 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Another one! Nataly8 (talk) 13:55, 15 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Help with image[change source]

Believe it or not, not many people care about villages in Estonia. That said, I can't expand much on any of them, given the lack of info (i.e all the other wikis with those pages are 1 sentence stubs). However, I did find a photo of one of the villages, Partsi, on the last wikipedia under "Different languages". Unfortunately, the author seems to have uploaded it to their local wiki. I don't see a copyright on the image, so can I upload it to the commons, or do I need to notify the author first? Thanks, Battleaxe9872 / 17:42, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't speak any of the other languages, but I think I saw an image with one of the villages. Since we are a very small Wiki, we do not allow image upload, so the easiest would probably be to talk to the author and ask them whether they want to publish the image at commons. --Eptalon (talk) 19:45, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Done, thanks. Battleaxe9872 / 19:51, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Compounds of Neon[change source]

There are no stable compounds of neon. The helium compound is "metastable" which means somewhat stable. Some neon ions have been seen though. They are not in chemical compounds though. See en:Neon#Compounds if you can decipher the jargon. :) --Chemicalinterest (talk) 20:53, 13 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

PCB's and helicene[change source]

The PCB article, although simple, does not seem to have anything wrong with it. Helecene is another area--I don't even understand the en.wikipedia article for it. I normally do inorganic chemistry, not organic chemistry and know only a little more than you about organic chemistry. --Chemicalinterest (talk) 21:39, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Bawbenhousen[change source]

Ahh, relief. Check the edit history of sun; I think the 14 revert rule has been broken. --Chemicalinterest (talk) 18:24, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

WOuld'nt have seen them if you hand't told. Was considering "edit warring" at some point as block reason. --Eptalon (talk) 18:25, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I found something about rollback though. If you rollback someone, just stay at the "You have rollbacked changes by heeha" page. Everytime you press F5 in Internet Explorer, it checks if there is another change to rollback. I just kept hitting the F5 button on my keyboard and waiting for an admin to come along. Anyway, --Chemicalinterest (talk) 18:28, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's nice to have the tools if you can afford them. --Eptalon (talk) 18:32, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Out-of-control user?[change source]

I've just noticed an unregistered user User talk:68.13.140.242 has uploaded copies of entire enWP pages such as Dromaeosauridae onto Simple with no changes, nor attribution, nor even filled in edit boxes. He's even included the Good Article mark from enWP!! As you know, I don't want to take on admin duties, but I think something needs to be done... I left a message on his talk page before I realised he had uploaded a whole article. Macdonald-ross (talk) 09:44, 29 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Would you or somebody be willing to simplify that article? We have the option of moving it to a userpage and simplifying it and then moving it back out. When it comes to WP:QD#A3 I like to give people a good amount of time to try to work on it, but he hasn't done much in the time that's passed and I think it still falls under this deletion criteria. Other opinions would be appreciated.In the absence of Eptalon,--Gordonrox24 | Talk 10:45, 29 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I cannot assess the importance of apages like Dromaeosauridae, which seem to have a relation to modern-day birds. If we think the importance is there, we jhave the option of radically cutting down the content, and simplifying what is left, or of deleting the page, and putting in a stub we extend. For my part, I will have little time to simplify this weekend, so do ont count on me. If there is an interested editor simpilfying, it's prbably less work to get a "decent" article, than with writing from scratch. And no, the move to userspace isn't necessary. --Eptalon (talk) 11:54, 29 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

SEWP and assessment[change source]

Hi. I presumed that the en-wiki classifications would be familiar to most people on here. However, as you point out, it may well be worth producing a separate assessment scheme for SEWP, and proposing it at simple talk. We could then use it to track our vital articles, and possibly in the future all articles. Because articles on SEWP don't generally need to be as long, I was thinking of the following system: 1. VGAs - e.g. Billy Graham 2. GAs - e.g. Monarch (butterfly) 3. A (similar to En-wiki B) - e.g. Leonardo da Vinci 4. B (similar to En-wiki C) - e.g. United Kingdom 5. C (similar to en-wiki start) - e.g. Spain 6. Stub - e.g. Journalism Any ideas ? I've reverted myself on WP:VITAL for the time being. Why? (talk) 11:23, 29 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Personally, I think those are too many categories. The main use of a system of categorization should be to identify the following classes of articles:
 1. Very short articles, in need of expansion ("stub")
 2. "Almost GA"
 3. "Almost VGA"
But as I say, such classification needs discussing at Simple Talk. Note that we do not need to classify GA/VGA, as they are implicitely classified as such. --Eptalon (talk) 11:29, 29 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Your classification system is simpler, but I can't help thinking you need a class for articles which are too long to be "very short articles" but are too complex/require clean-up/unreferenced. Where would Henry VIII of England be on your scale ? It's not a stub, but neither is it "almost GA". Why? (talk) 11:46, 29 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

(<-) My "classification system" was 5 mins thinking, and is by no way complete. I really think you sohuld open a subject at Sipmle talk. Other people have good ideas too...--Eptalon (talk) 11:50, 29 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, no problem. I'll mention the vital article template/category too. Why? (talk) 11:52, 29 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Pentaerythritol tetranitrate[change source]

Now that Pentaerythritol tetranitrate is linked from the front page, I just realized it isn't categorized. Being unfamiliar with the topic, I'm not sure what would be best. Would you mind adding a category? Thanks, Kansan (talk) 19:58, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Added category:Explosives, and Category:Drugs. May not be the best, but will surely do for now. --Eptalon (talk) 20:16, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Would you like to add yourself here? --Chemicalinterest (talk) 21:00, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've redirected GFAJ-1 to the new page. I had not known about it. Anyway, the change is because 1. as per enWP title, and 2. My version is more substantial. No offence intended, but something had to be done. Macdonald-ross (talk) 08:31, 3 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
