Rename Category:Jewish people

@Auntof6@Kk.urban My thought on this (I looked up some articles) calling Jewish people “jews” can be seen as anti-semantic. Specifically if you look at what Hitler did and said because he thought (not posting this to upset anyone) race-tuberculosis of the peoples and The “ultimate goal must definitely be the removal of the Jews altogether. If you pull up the reference, you will see the tags “antisemitism” and “racism.”

We need to be careful here, it would also be interesting what the exact wording in German was. Before 1933, the nazi party was one of several parties with similar ideas. If you say 'Jewish people' a religion is implied. If you say, for example 'Spanish people' or 'French people' there is no such implication Eptalon (talk) 14:59, 24 March 2024 (UTC)

@Eptalon Good to see you. So it is my thought. Say a black person calls another black person the N word. It is fine that way. If any other race calls them that (at least in my neck of the woods) I’ll see a gun pointed at me and poof there it. I think there is a finite line here we may not want to cross. It’s obvious Hitler and the Nazis hated Jewish people and homosexuality. Let’s jump to something more current. The on-set of COVID-19, a lot of people were attacking Asian people because they were told by Mr Spray Tan they brought it over and something needed to be done. So what happens, his followers attacked and killed numerous Asians, even if they looked like it but were actually Americans. They called them some choice names. Think back to WWII I believe it was where the names came up. I’m not implying anyone here is racist, just speaking from my long time on this planet and the whole picture. My reason was what Eptalon said (that people might assume "Jewish people" refers to the religion, not the ethnicity, and that even for religions, we use "Christians", "Muslims", "Hindus", and so forth, so "Jews" would be similar. (It would also match enwiki and our other categories like "American Jews"). I didn't really know that "Jews" could be considered offensive - I thought that some people avoided it because they had a misconception that it's offensive - but in that case it might be better not to change it and only use a category redirect. The reason is that these won't include all administrators of these projects, so it could be misleading. ISIS flag on user page

Hello SimpWiki administrators,

I'm writing to you after seeing a complaint made on the English Wikipedia about a user page on the Simple English Wikipedia. Obviously we cannot handle that sort of complaint there (where I am an administrator), but I think it warrants some consideration here, and so I'm cross-posting this.

The user page, User:MCGAMER YOUTUBE, has an ISIS flag on it, and it was tagged for deletion by Larrymhardy. After MCGAMER YOUTUBE's user page was tagged for deletion, the user initially proceeded to place a tag on their user page disclaiming any support for ISIS (claiming that they only put the flag there for aesthetic reasons), but then removed the tag and the deletion template from their own user page.

According to Wikipedia:User page, There is broad agreement that you may not include in your user space material that is likely to bring the project into disrepute, or which is likely to give widespread offense. I would posit that the inclusion of the ISIS flag on an editor's user page in the manner that MCGAMER YOUTUBE has chosen to do is the sort of thing that would be likely to bring the project into disrepute, or at least to give widespread offense.

In light of this, I am asking that administrators look into this and take appropriate action.

I didn't see anything glaring missing from the page. There are some fake categories or etc but nothing gutting the policy. If you feel so inclined, you can fix build out the redlinks.

Yes, that's correct as of now. Although the flag has been changed, I have noticed the editing pattern of User:MCGAMER YOUTUBE, which I feel is promoting banned organizations or related groups. @SurferSquall: It is a very fine line that I'll allow, on my own judgement. Other admins may well override that judgement. However, when you move the article into mainspace, you are assuming responsibility for the content of that article. Page creation edit notice

A user has just brought a problem to my attention on my talk page. The edit notice for creating a user page is almost the same as that for creating an article. It includes the line "If you want to make test changes, please use the sandbox." This is evidently confusing because it can lead a new user to think they're making test changes in the wrong place.

SEO articles

Hi, I am not at home in this Wikipedia, so I am not quite sure if this is the right place to bring this to your attention.

There is an article that has been added to the German, the Spanish, and the Simple English Wikipedia today, about a singer named Praise Ukachukwu Mba. The Spanish Wikipedia has already put a big tag "self-promotion" over the article, and I assume the German one will follow.

Now on the Simple English Wikipedia, the user has also added an article about this guy's company named Brandskon which was founded just now in March of 2024. I don't see the slightest chance that this company is notable.

What I don't like about the whole thing is this: Why don't they even try to put these articles in the English Wikipedia? Because they know they wouldn't stand a chance. But having an article on Simple English Wikipedia I am sure is just as good for SEO.

@PotsdamLamb: It can make it harder for the admins to do their job when people keep pointing out the things they want done right now! There's such a thing as a flow of work, and if that gets interrupted things can get dropped.

Earlier today you thanked me for closing a bunch of RFDs. The reason I could do that is that 1) I had a chunk of time before I had to be in a meeting and 2) no one interrupted me to ask me to do something else just because they saw that I was online. If I had gotten interrupted, I wouldn't have been able to close as many as I did at the time.

Hi per this conversation with a WMF staffer 250k pages, can an admin turn on the mentor features please? I think it will be a great help to all the newcomers plus it will alert us to all of their changes so we can monitor to ensure articles are being created correctly and not just toss up a little sentence and call it a day.

@PotsdamLamb: We would need consensus to implement these features here first. As someone who registered as a mentor, I had assumed it was already enabled as people had started registering. Issues with User:BigKrow

The user is creating a lot of short (and I mean short) articles and not creating them correctly. Instead of references they just add an external link. This is one such article out of many. Some I have moved to their userspace (and notified them of such) that I moved them so they can work on the articles and complete them to more than a one - two sentence article. I have also posted on their talk page about the issue. They have also received messages from other users on their talk page. This is not the first time this has happened. We have also had a lot of edit conflicts as they follow me around and when I am working on an article, they edit it right after my first edit and I have asked them to wait about 5 minutes to see if I make any other changes as I am tidying up articles and making sure they are formatted correctly, have the appropriate headings, everything I typically do. I will post a notice on the users talk page about this discussion. I am not quite sure what I can do, but perhaps admins can do something or say something that will work and get the editor back on track. Update: Now I need to bring up a few other things that have developed:

1. User talk:Cyber.Eyes.2005#PotsdamLamb - Editor posted I “need to stop interfering” and was told to post on my talk page.
2. Talk:1999 Sydney hailstorm#PotsdamLamb telling me I "stop adding things to my drafts vybereyes helping me not you..." - Showing ownership and I’ve never touched the article which is in the main space. It was an article I moved to their user space due to the issues they are having with the creation of the articles (of which I moved the original to their user space so they could work on it) but they made a new article instead of moving it. Plus the article is just very basic (as I listed above 1999 Sydney hailstorm. They have received numerous warnings and conversations about the issues since they joined. I’m beginning to feel that they don’t quite yet understand how to create articles and the layout making them perhaps incompatible with our project.
