Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to make useful changes to Wikipedia. However, at least one of your recent changes, such as the one you made to "Wikipedia:Sandbox", did not appear to be useful and has been removed. If you want to try out changing Wikipedia to learn more about how it works, please use the sandbox. Thank you. --Chris G Bot (talk) 02:50, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

No bot flag?
[change source]Chris G.'s bot is not "flagged" as a bot, meaning that the feature that allows one to hide the edits of bots in recent changes does not work for this particular bot. How is this fixed, or is there a misunderstanding going on? — Jonas · talk 18:46, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
- It's intentional. So human editors can review the bot's edits and report false positives. alexandra (talk) 18:48, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
- Why should this, of all bots operating on this wiki, be exempt from being hidden by the (optional) tool to remove redundant bot edits? What makes it special? We always have Special:Contributions/Chris G Bot, you know. — Jonas · talk 18:58, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
- We already had a big discussion about this, Jonas, on Simple talk. Majorly talk 19:08, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
- My personal opinion is that the bot should be flagged, however I would make the bot add
&bot=0
to the end of the edit url so that mediawiki does not flag the edit as a bot edit but the bot would still have the other benefits of a bot flag --Chris G (talk) 01:19, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Bad Revert
[change source]Hi, I'm trying to add to the page I'm doing on Derrick Pierce (it hasn't been an approved page yet), but I would like to add to it if possible until the decision is made. Can you remove the revert thing so that I can continue to edit the page? One editor has voted to "Keep" the page so far. Thanks! Honey WestHoneywest (talk) 00:59, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
Vandalism notices on my page
[change source]I again request that you remove the bot-delivered vandalism notices from my talk page. I know I can remove them myself, but if you were to do it with an edit summary stating they were in error, that would make the situation clear to anyone reviewing the page history. SpinningSpark 23:20, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
- Chris G's not around at this time, so I've reviewed the contributions myself and removed the warnings with a clear edit summary. Best, PeterSymonds (talk) 23:23, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

Chris G Bot
[change source]A couple of IRC patrollers are a bit concerned by this edit, in which the bot reverted itself and posted to its talk page. Is that an error in the code? As long as it hasn't been compromised...this edit by the vandal in response to the bot was a bit disconcerting. As I say, it's probably normal, but I thought I should flag it. Best, PeterSymonds (talk) 22:53, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
- Basically, the bot has reverted itself. I've found only one other time it has done this in the last 1,000 edits. Synergy 22:55, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
- Normally the bot wouldn't revert its self because it ignores users with over 50 edits, however the bots connection with the toolserver database that it uses to check the edit count died, so when the bot looked it up it got an edit count of 0 and thus reverted. I'm going to add some error checking to make the bot fallback to the api on errors like that --Chris G (talk) 01:31, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

Blocked
[change source]After this bad tagging, I've blocked your bot until you can figure out what's wrong with the article tagging. alexandra (talk) 19:15, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
- There are several instances where the bot should not have touched it, where it was not obvious G3 material. Examples include User:King Coleon, User:Patriotelectric, and Icydevil. Icydevil was about a WoW player, which would have gone under A4; Patriot was a clear G11 candidate, but it could have just as well been a legitimate article; and King Coleon simply had "Wade Smith of South Bend, Indiana "Correcting My Past"" on it. How on earth could that be construed as vandalism? alexandra (talk) 19:31, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
- Creol had something interesting to say, saying that those were probably going to be G5 anyhow, but that doesn't solve hte base problem. alexandra (talk) 00:08, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
Reverts
[change source]Like other people, your bot reverted one of my edits for no apparent reason. It was on the Calabi-Yau manifold article. Thanks!!!Petero9 (talk) 05:28, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
- It had a reason just not a very good one, what set the bot off was this text you added:
<!-- WHAT ARE THE NEXT PARAGRAPHS SUPPOSED TO MEAN?--> its all the capitals that you used that set it off (lots of vandals like to add text like HI MOM, HOW ARE YOU? etc) so if you add text with lots of caps you'll set the bot off. Once again, sorry and it shouldn't happen again --Chris 09:16, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

- Probably the use of the word "sucky". Still, I agree, this bot has had so many problems, I'm really tempted to just block it and let the humans do the work. Frankly, we did just a good job without it making numerous mistakes. Majorly talk 20:22, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
- I haven't seen many mistakes in article space and I think it is doing a good job there but perhaps if it leaves user space alone it might be better. "Sucky" on a talk page, while not necessarily as edifying as it could be, is OK - in article space it is unlikely to be an OK edit. --Matilda (talk) 20:29, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

User talk revert warring

Some of the code isn't very good....
[change source]Apparently you check if there is a recent edit by a trusted bot - so if it gets reverted to before that version, then it must be a faulty edit. Unfortunately this fails when reverting accumulated vandalism (such as here). It can't be the large reversion by itself, otherwise you would have captured this - so the alleborgobot edit must be the culprit... Since that bot apparently only adds intra-wiki links, it seems to be a bad indicator for vandalism edits..... --Kim D. Petersen (talk) 16:13, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry, I don't quite understand you. My bot doesn't work on any "trusted bot" system. The reason why it reverted the edit on Global warming was because of the mass removal of content --Chris 09:34, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

[change source]Hello Chris G/Archive. I am warning you about the Nations cup. It will be run parallel to the Wikicup you have signed up for. It will be the same points system, but you will team up with someone. Then, all the rounds will be the same as the Wikicup. It is not obligatory to sign up for the nations cup, but it is highly recommended, as if you are knocked out of one of the cups, you can remain in the other one! Please, hurry up the entry end on the 31st of December, and team up with somebody! Remember you will also have to choose a country (it doesn't have to be the same as the Wikicup one). |

[change source]Hello Chris G/Archive. We have come to a conclusion after dicussing the way points should be counted. You must make a page were you keep record of your edits. It should look like this and it should be called user:Chris G/Archive/Wikicup Edit Count. It will be checked by our judges to make sure there is no cheating. If we find that there was a very large margin of error, you will be disqualified. Remember, any edit which does not figure on this page will not be counted in your final score.
