Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to make useful changes to Wikipedia. However, at least one of your recent changes, such as the one you made to "Wikipedia:Sandbox", did not appear to be useful and has been removed. Where can I get some information on your bot? I'd like to check out the script and the templates it leaves on user talk pages. --Gwib -(talk)- 18:16, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The source code is posted here as for the templates it just uses templates in my userspace:

No bot flag?[change source]

Chris G.'s bot is not "flagged" as a bot, meaning that the feature that allows one to hide the edits of bots in recent changes does not work for this particular bot. How is this fixed, or is there a misunderstanding going on? — Jonas · talk 18:46, 6 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's intentional. So human editors can review the bot's edits and report false positives. alexandra (talk) 18:48, 6 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Why should this, of all bots operating on this wiki, be exempt from being hidden by the (optional) tool to remove redundant bot edits? What makes it special? We always have Special:Contributions/Chris G Bot, you know. — Jonas · talk 18:58, 6 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
We already had a big discussion about this, Jonas, on Simple talk. Majorly talk 19:08, 6 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
My personal opinion is that the bot should be flagged, however I would make the bot add &bot=0 to the end of the edit url so that mediawiki does not flag the edit as a bot edit but the bot would still have the other benefits of a bot flag --Chris G (talk) 01:19, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Adding &bot=0 to the url http://simple.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Recentchanges ermoves edits made by flagged bots. Your bot does not do that. This is my problem. — Jonas · talk 01:51, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am well aware of that, however it has been decided that the bots edit should be shown in the rc feed, all I was saying was that if the bot was flagged as I want it to be it would add &bot=0 to the edit of the edit url to make mediawiki show it's edits in the rc feed --Chris G (talk) 02:19, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like your bot got this one right... and 24.6.251.83 just did a cut-n-paste job from English Wikipedia. Zephyrad (talk) 06:02, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

User 24.6.251.83 is attempting to organize the article. It is not vandalism.

Bad revert[change source]

Your bot made a bad revert of my edits at filter (internet). It has done it twice, I thought bots were supposed to assume that they were in the wrong if they got reverted. I am going to restore. I am hoping your owner is going to come along in a minute and remove the warning from my page. SpinningSpark 11:48, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And again. Please fix it, or it's getting blocked. Majorly talk 00:21, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It should be fixed. Also just a bit of a note you shouldn't use "jerk" in the edit summary when reverting the bot because that just increases the chance of it reverting you. However it now should not revert to itself. Also Majorly if the bot is playing up feel free to block it. --Chris G (talk) 12:41, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know if you're talking to me here, but I never used the word "jerk" in an edit summary. Majorly talk 13:05, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bad Revert[change source]

Hi, I'm trying to add to the page I'm doing on Derrick Pierce (it hasn't been an approved page yet), but I would like to add to it if possible until the decision is made. Can you remove the revert thing so that I can continue to edit the page? One editor has voted to "Keep" the page so far. Thanks! Honey WestHoneywest (talk) 00:59, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism notices on my page[change source]

I again request that you remove the bot-delivered vandalism notices from my talk page. I know I can remove them myself, but if you were to do it with an edit summary stating they were in error, that would make the situation clear to anyone reviewing the page history. SpinningSpark 23:20, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Chris G's not around at this time, so I've reviewed the contributions myself and removed the warnings with a clear edit summary. Best, PeterSymonds (talk) 23:23, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why would a bot automatically revert the addition of an interwiki link? Sometimes that can be helpful. In any case it should require a human to look at it.q alexandra (talk) 03:35, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can I have a diff please? --Chris G (talk) 03:36, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Never mind...I misread the diffs. You under an IP blanked the page, hoping that the bot would revert; it didn't. alexandra (talk) 05:49, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Chris G Bot[change source]

A couple of IRC patrollers are a bit concerned by this edit, in which the bot reverted itself and posted to its talk page. Is that an error in the code? As long as it hasn't been compromised...this edit by the vandal in response to the bot was a bit disconcerting. As I say, it's probably normal, but I thought I should flag it. Best, PeterSymonds (talk) 22:53, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Basically, the bot has reverted itself. I've found only one other time it has done this in the last 1,000 edits. Synergy 22:55, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Normally the bot wouldn't revert its self because it ignores users with over 50 edits, however the bots connection with the toolserver database that it uses to check the edit count died, so when the bot looked it up it got an edit count of 0 and thus reverted. I'm going to add some error checking to make the bot fallback to the api on errors like that --Chris G (talk) 01:31, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Great. Just letting you know. :) Synergy 01:37, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There was a similar issue which resulted in the bot reverting Cassandra. You may want to consider whitelisting admins if possible. -- Creol(talk) 02:16, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also, could you make it so the bot doesn't revert any changes to Wikipedia:Sandbox or Wikipedia:Student tutorial (and any similar pages I may be forgetting?) Thanks --Werdan7T @ 02:42, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

 Done --Chris G (talk) 09:55, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for reverting my issue above. I have noticed that as the bot reported this user, it didn't leave a line between it and the one below. Sorry to trouble you, thanks - tholly --Talk-- 19:42, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Chris, you bot just reverted me for adding a request for rollback rights on WP:AN, here are the diffs [1] [2]. All the Best, --Mifter (talk) 02:13, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm new to Simple English Wikipedia and your bot has reverted my edit to the Yuri article. While I appreciate your work, I'd like to receive a more extensive feedback on what I have done wrong to get my edit reverted. :) --Koveras (talk) 13:21, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Blacklisted by ChrisGBot[change source]

Hi ChrisG. Could you please check your bot? It marked the creation of an article I made a few minutes ago, Defecation as being Vandalism. It is not vandalism. I am an established editor from the English Wikipedia with nigh on 4000 edits, and the article was created along the same wording as Urination. I would appreciate your help. Thank you. Iceflow (talk) 18:47, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked[change source]

After this bad tagging, I've blocked your bot until you can figure out what's wrong with the article tagging. alexandra (talk) 19:15, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There are several instances where the bot should not have touched it, where it was not obvious G3 material. Examples include User:King Coleon, User:Patriotelectric, and Icydevil. Icydevil was about a WoW player, which would have gone under A4; Patriot was a clear G11 candidate, but it could have just as well been a legitimate article; and King Coleon simply had "Wade Smith of South Bend, Indiana "Correcting My Past"" on it. How on earth could that be construed as vandalism? alexandra (talk) 19:31, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Creol had something interesting to say, saying that those were probably going to be G5 anyhow, but that doesn't solve hte base problem. alexandra (talk) 00:08, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reverts[change source]

Like other people, your bot reverted one of my edits for no apparent reason. It was on the Calabi-Yau manifold article. Thanks!!!Petero9 (talk) 05:28, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It had a reason just not a very good one, what set the bot off was this text you added:

<!-- WHAT ARE THE NEXT PARAGRAPHS SUPPOSED TO MEAN?--> its all the capitals that you used that set it off (lots of vandals like to add text like HI MOM, HOW ARE YOU? etc) so if you add text with lots of caps you'll set the bot off. Once again, sorry and it shouldn't happen again --Chris 09:16, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Request[change source]

Could you program in a separator for when the bot makes a request on VIP? When it makes multiple requests, it looks like a paragraph. Thanks. :) Synergy 02:41, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Should be fixed --Chris 05:00, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Another bad bot revert[change source]

Probably the use of the word "sucky". Still, I agree, this bot has had so many problems, I'm really tempted to just block it and let the humans do the work. Frankly, we did just a good job without it making numerous mistakes. Majorly talk 20:22, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't seen many mistakes in article space and I think it is doing a good job there but perhaps if it leaves user space alone it might be better. "Sucky" on a talk page, while not necessarily as edifying as it could be, is OK - in article space it is unlikely to be an OK edit. --Matilda (talk) 20:29, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've removed that regex, however it will still revert edits in the User namespace [4]. Also Majorly the bot is doing an effective job. It is 97% accurate (although this is only using reported false positives) --Chris 07:47, 28 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bad Edit[change source]

See my talk page. I was porting Twinkle over here. -- Da Punk '95 (talk) 08:31, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That would be because of the use of the word "shit" in the code. On a side note I'm pretty sure a few other people have ported twinkle over here (e.g. Chenzw and Maxim) --Chris 08:49, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

User talk revert warring[change source]

Is there anyway you can prevent your bot from getting into revert wars with new users on their own talk pages? It is not against policy for a user to blank their own talk page. Over the last few days, the bot has been involved in at least three separate revert wars with IPs over them blanking their user talks. These have flooded New Changes. -- Creol(talk) 23:55, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It will no longer revert user's editing their user space--Chris 01:24, 30 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Some of the code isn't very good....[change source]

Apparently you check if there is a recent edit by a trusted bot - so if it gets reverted to before that version, then it must be a faulty edit. Unfortunately this fails when reverting accumulated vandalism (such as here). It can't be the large reversion by itself, otherwise you would have captured this - so the alleborgobot edit must be the culprit... Since that bot apparently only adds intra-wiki links, it seems to be a bad indicator for vandalism edits..... --Kim D. Petersen (talk) 16:13, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I don't quite understand you. My bot doesn't work on any "trusted bot" system. The reason why it reverted the edit on Global warming was because of the mass removal of content --Chris 09:34, 3 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
