December 2023[change source]

Hello, Dotdotcomma! Here at Simple English Wikipedia, we use the section heading "Other websites" instead of English Wikipedia's "External links", which you used in "L'Officiel". This makes it simpler and easier to read. Please remember to use "Other websites" in pages that you create in the future. Thank you for your help! MathXplore (talk) 00:12, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for that notice! I was unaware, I appreciate it! Dotdashmeredith (talk) 03:44, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Dotdotcomma! Here at Simple English Wikipedia we use the section heading "Related pages" instead of English Wikipedia's "See also", which you used in "Billboard Argentina". This makes it simpler and easier to read. Please remember to use "Related pages" in articles that you create in the future. Thank you for your help! MathXplore (talk) 10:54, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, MathXplore thanks again haha. :) Dotdashmeredith (talk) 15:27, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not remove quick deletion tags from articles, as you did to "Stan Rogow", without a good reason. If you think the article should not be deleted, please add {{wait}} to the article and explain your reason on the article's talk page. Thank you. Cyber.Eyes.2005 (talk) 04:43, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Cyber.Eyes.2005 . I noticed you marked the article for A3 so I went ahead and simplified the article, and thus removed the deletion. I'll be more clear next time. Dotdashmeredith (talk) 04:47, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
While working on simplifying articles, you should keep the QD templates intact, an deleting administrator would decline the QD submission if changes have been made or you can simply add {{wait}} below it and explain the reason on articles talk page. Also, a quick edit summary is quite helpful. Noticed that the article you created, Stan Rogow, seems to be a direct copy/paste from English Wikipedia (en:Stan Rogow). For tips on creating content suitable for our wiki, you can check out How to write Simple English pages. Cyber.Eyes.2005 (talk) 05:39, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I will do that next time, Cyber.Eyes.2005. But please note that I did not create the article. The original creator did directly copy/paste from the English Wikipedia. I simplified it after. Thank you. Dotdashmeredith (talk) 05:41, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'll start incorporating edit summaries into more of my work now, thank you! Dotdashmeredith (talk) 05:41, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the clarification! Your efforts to simplify the article are appreciated. If you have any questions or need assistance, feel free to ask. Happy editing! Cyber.Eyes.2005 (talk) 05:44, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Also I noticed how you are able to put Qd notices quite rapidly with the time automatically put in, how do you do that? I want to help put quick deletion notices, but I have to fill in the fields which takes too much time and is annoying. Dotdashmeredith (talk) 05:53, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's quite easy if you use the Twinkle tool. You can learn about its usage here. Also, you can easily enable the tool in the Gadgets section of your Preferences page. Cyber.Eyes.2005 (talk) 06:03, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good, I'll figure it out, thanks Dotdashmeredith (talk) 06:06, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

RfD nomination of Poybo Media[change source]

An editor has requested deletion of Poybo Media, a page you created. We appreciate your changes, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article meets Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Please comment on the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2023/Poybo Media and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also change the article during the discussion to address the nominator's concerns. But you should not remove the requests for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you very much. RiggedMint 05:11, 17 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Accounts[change source]

Hello. It looks like you have quite a long list of accounts used to evade blocks on Wikimedia projects. Would you be interested in sticking to only this account from now on? Your contributions on the Simple English Wikipedia seem to be constructive, and I think further cross-wiki abuse might necessitate global locks, which would prevent your cotnributing here. Vermont (🐿️🏳️‍🌈) 04:53, 18 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, yes. I've learned my lesson from enwiki, and I genuinely want to contribute positively to the Simple Wiki. My family comes from a non English first language background, so I want to help people like that in the pursuit of knowledge. I will be sticking to this account, dotdashmeredith. I haven't logged in recently to those accounts nor will I ever log in to my past accounts. Dotdashmeredith (talk) 05:01, 18 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason(s):
I was blocked for sockpuppetry, which I was involved in on the enwiki. My case is similar to that of Cyber.Eyes.2005's. I was not involved in sockpuppetry on the simplewiki, and I plan to make constructive edits/works. The person who nominated me Fr33kman to be block me was vandalizing Wikipedia and was involved in some sockpuppetry ring that was deleting my QDs without good reason. I also had spoken to Vermont before and we agreed that I would be fine on here, and I already stated that I will only use this account. I haven't logged in even to my past accounts for months, as I plan to contribute positively to the Simple Wikipedia. Thank you.

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reason(s):
This is your one and only chance to continue editing here. If you cause any problems or get caught using more than one account yop will be indef blocked. fr33kman 18:53, 18 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate the chance. Thank you @Fr33kman dotdashmeredith (talk) 18:54, 18 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Four-step warning[change source]

Hello @Dotdashmeredith, I saw you gave a "only warning" on User talk:103.92.43.1 for removing QD template on page Ajit Menon. I believe we should adhere to the Four-step warning in this case and then report them on Wikipedia:Vandalism in progress. Cyber.Eyes.2005 (talk) 08:29, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

My bad, I got a little caught up as it was clear that these were a succession of sock puppet accounts. Thanks. These IP addresses just came again and again. dotdashmeredith (talk) 08:43, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, at this point they've been doing it several times. Man I wish there was a moderator role where some users could temporarily block editors. Would be nice. dotdashmeredith (talk) 08:46, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I didn't notice this previously, but it seems your username is just Dotdash Meredith, a media company. This is a violation of the username policy, so please change your username before you continue editing. Vermont (🐿️🏳️‍🌈) 00:23, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

May I know why you are repeatedly putting my page on quick deletion? 103.214.60.46 (talk) 05:44, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's already marked why. It's also been created in the past. Stop sock puppeting, and stop reverting the QD nom. dotdashmeredith (talk) 05:46, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It was you who deleted it, you all stop making this group buzz. The person whose page has been created is notable. 103.214.60.46 (talk) 05:51, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Till now 10 messages are coming on my brother's Facebook page asking for money in exchange for not deleting the Wikipedia page. Are you doing this? 103.214.60.46 (talk) 05:55, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Don't even try this. dotdashmeredith (talk) 05:55, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Please don't put it on quick deletion, put it on discussion and let it be decided whether this page should be stable or not. 103.214.60.46 (talk) 05:57, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No. It doesn't meet notability, and it's a recreated article. dotdashmeredith (talk) 05:59, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Someone is demanding money from my brother to stabilize the page on Wikipedia and is threatening that if the money is not given, he will delete the page again and again. 103.214.60.46 (talk) 06:01, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Brother, I agree with you, people have deleted the pages of actors like Rajveer Yadav and Babil Khan, here stupid people have weapons in their hands. 103.214.60.46 (talk) 06:04, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for reverting without a summary, accidentally hit the enter key. I meant to say that the listing in "The 500 Most Influential Muslims" (plus the fact that there are plenty of references for the article on the English Wikipedia) mean that I'm not comfortable using quick deletion for that page. If you choose to nominate it for deletion you can, I just ask that you ping me in that discussion --DannyS712 (talk) 05:52, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your comments. I'll mark it for RFD instead. dotdashmeredith (talk) 05:54, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

December 2023[change source]

Hello, Dotdashmeredith. We welcome your changes to Wikipedia, but if you are closely associated with some of the people, places or things that you have written about on Wikipedia, you may need to read our advice on conflicts of interest.

All users need to follow Wikipedia's neutral point of view rules for content. People with a close connection to a subject often have a strong opinion about it. This may cause them to change the article in ways that make it either too flattering or too critical. They will most often not be aware they are doing it. Everybody is allowed to write about whatever subjects they want to, but they need to be very careful about making sure their changes are supported by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject you are writing about, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid changing or creating pages related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with. If you do decide to write about these things, be very careful with how you do it.
  • Be careful about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to give information about independent sources in deletion discussions. However, try not to give an opinion about whether an article should be deleted.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Be very careful so that you do not accidentally break Wikipedia's rules.

Please make yourself familiar with Wikipedia's rules and guidelines on content — especially those about neutral point of view, giving sources, and autobiographies. Thank you.

You declared that you work for one company, but you have also been using sockpuppetry on enwiki to promote similar companies and people associated with them. While you said you were "not involved in sockpuppetry on the simplewiki", I don't really believe this because you have been defending articles at RfD's that are related to subjects created many times by sockpuppets on simplewiki, such as Poybo Media/Justin Jin. This is a warning to refrain from adding promotional content in the future. Kk.urban (talk) 17:46, 21 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the comments @Kk.urban. I'd like to clarify that I'm not sockpuppeting on the simple wiki - on the enwiki I created the articles (as well as others) originally when the subject(s) didn't have sources, and I had an issue with just defending my own work. I've learned about Wikipedia since, and I haven't been involved in any sockpuppetry in months and don't plan on it in the future. I appreciate it! dotdashmeredith (talk) 18:24, 21 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Attack pages[change source]

If you find such pages, tag as {{QD|G10}} and blank them. Thank you for your quick responses. MathXplore (talk) 06:48, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I see. Wasn't sure "Hoax" would be the right one, thanks for the clarification. .., (talk) 06:48, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@MathXplore why don't you apply for administrator? I see you often marking these attack pages/clear advertorials for QD - but with admin wouldn't you be able to block them? .., (talk) 06:49, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Please see User_talk:MathXplore#Important_question because this is not my first time to have such questions. MathXplore (talk) 06:51, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, got it. Great work regardless! .., (talk) 06:52, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@MathXplore is there some other role that grants blocking permissions? I think it would be a lot more efficient if you received it, as these articles are clearly not appropiate. .., (talk) 06:59, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
At the best of my knowledge, only admins can block others. I hardly imagine there is a urgent need to establish new non-admin blockers, at least, I never heard such user group in any kind of MediaWiki website including WMF wikis. Simple English Wikipedia has limited numbers of user groups for simplicity, so I can hardly expect that the community will approve such user groups. I hope this can help you. MathXplore (talk) 07:03, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I see, that was mainly my point of you to receive administrator permissions. Yeah, I noticed simple wiki has few groups. Thanks, I appreciate it! .., (talk) 07:04, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

RfD nomination of The Vach[change source]

An editor has requested deletion of The Vach, a page you created. We appreciate your changes, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article meets Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Please comment on the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2023/The Vach and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

Mass welcomes[change source]

Hi, please don't mass welcome user as you did today. It floods the recent changes feed and it is unnecessary to welcome a user unless they have made a constructive edit. — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 23:26, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, okay, got it. Usually on other wikipedias I have experience welcome messages right after sign up, but I've seen a lack of them here, which is why I decided to do some.
I won't do it in the future, thanks dotdotcomma (talk) 23:28, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and a note[change source]

Hello, Dotdotcomma, and welcome to Simple English Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions here.

I noticed that you included __INDEX__ in some articles that you created here. Please don't include that. It is the default for articles to be indexed, so there is no need to specify it.

Thanks again, and let me know if you have any questions. -- Auntof6 (talk) 12:09, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

User talk:103.73.221.19[change source]

I am fairly sure the edit made at Happy Birthday to You are not bad enough to give an only warning at User talk:103.73.221.19. Because of this, an admin will probably not block them if they make another bad edit. You should only start with the "only warning" in severe cases; in most cases, start with {{uw-vandalism1}} or {{uw-vandalism2}}. Kk.urban (talk) 05:50, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I guess that's true, I'll do that next time.
Although, I remember seeing people edit the birthday pages often to wish a friend/family a happy birthday – do you think it's worth asking for a semi-protection on it? dotdotcomma (talk) 05:53, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know, but probably not. There's been only three such edits in the past year, which is probably too few for page protection. Kk.urban (talk) 05:55, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Categorizing[change source]

Hello, Dotdot. I was just looking at some of the articles you created. In several of them, you did what is called overcategorizing. That means you added two categories where one of them is implied by the other. If you're familiar with the idea of a category tree, you can look at it as one category being under another in the same branch (not necessarily an immediate child, though -- it could have intervening entries). For example, in Florida land boom of the 1920s you included the following categories:

  1. Category:1920s in Florida
  2. Category:History of Florida
  3. Category:Miami
  4. Category:Florida

The 1st category is under the 2nd, which is under the 4th, so the 2nd and 4th don't need to be included. I see that English Wikipedia has the categories for 1920s in Florida and history of Florida, but our categories are managed differently.

Please watch out for this, and feel free to let me know if you have any questions. Thanks! -- Auntof6 (talk) 03:26, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I started categorizing more after I was denied Patroller rights due to a lack of good categorization. Thanks for the heads up! dotdotcomma (talk) 03:31, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This is a case of more not being better! One other tip I can give you is this: in articles about people, include something that indicates where they're from. Sometimes it's just a category like "French people", but sometimes it can be more specific, like "People from Paris" or "French politicians". Here is something I wrote that might help find categories to put on biographical articles. -- Auntof6 (talk) 03:42, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Got it - so "People from Paris" would automatically include "French people" in the categories? dotdotcomma (talk) 03:46, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Or I suppose encompass it dotdotcomma (talk) 03:46, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, exactly. :) -- Auntof6 (talk) 04:07, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

An editor has requested deletion of Bayu Prihandito, a page you created. We appreciate your changes, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article meets Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Please comment on the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2024/Bayu Prihandito and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also change the article during the discussion to address the nominator's concerns. But you should not remove the requests for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you very much. – Cyber.Eyes2005Talk 20:37, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
