please copy this to the user page of Cæsey on english wikipedia (this is an urts appeal) I am autoblocked :(

I am not a sockpuppet of Iniced, and i have never created an account before this one. i tried to create another account to protest just now.. i'm so sorry for creating it.. i know it is not the way to go.. I beg of you to unblock me. i promise i will abide by whatever anyone wants.. I am not a sockpuppet of this user though. i respect your decision, either way. By the way, the account i just created was a user named Stephen Cali. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, Cæsey. Stephen Cali (talk) 23:31, 12 April 2018 (UTC) Oops, wrong account.... sorry.. Cæsey 你好! 23:35, 12 April 2018 (UTC) I don't know where else to go... Cæsey (talk) 23:46, 12 April 2018 (UTC) I'll just try to contribute here constructively... Cæsey (talk) 23:48, 12 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

(Non-administrator observation) @Cæsey: For future reference, this is not the place to appeal such blocks. I have left a message on an administrators talk page on the English Wikipedia. I will kindly request that you do not continue posting about this around, as you did on the page for requesting username changes on metawiki, as it's a bit excessive. Thanks, Vermont (talk) 00:08, 13 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, thanks. 𐌂ᵃᵉˢᵉʸ (talk) 22:58, 14 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Quite surprised here !

I’m quite surprised here just wanted to know from Admins here why the same person both account have right of Patrollers ? One is hardly seen active @Gordonrox24: but another last edit is 6 years ago. @Gordonrox2448:with only 56 edits. Just wanted to know in good fait Being a user of Simplle English Wikipedia & my suggestion is give chance to new active users and remove old inactive patrollers which are not active since 1-2 years. MTKASHTALK Contribs 22:35, 13 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

There's no limit on the number of patrollers we have, so inactive users having the right doesn't keep new people from getting it. I can't answer about the two accounts who look like the same person having the right. --Auntof6 (talk) 23:07, 13 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
User:Gordonrox24 is a former Admin, and it is not uncommon, for former Admins to be granted these rights when they leave either through inactivity or by them stepping down, as they are already trusted members of the community. The User:Gordonrox2448 is their alternate account which they list on their User Page and is only accessed when they are on an unsecured computer. This is not uncommon to see either since the main has it, the secondary can also. As far as limits on user numbers there are no limits. We can have every active editor if they met the criteria be Patroller's and or Rollbacker's. It has been debated before about removing old permissions from accounts, but as of right now the only ones that are removed are Admin/Crat/Oversight/Checkuser for inactivity. Your account is only 4 days old, once you have more experience feel free to apply for the Patroller or Rollbacker rights, and an Admin will review the request. -- Enfcer (talk) 23:57, 13 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

‎Rocky Paul 6

Does any action need to be taken against Rocky Paul 6 (possible indefinite block)? None of their edits are helpful and they don't look like they are here to contribute. J991 17:40, 15 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Any Kind heart Admin Here

Any Kind heart Admin here who can grant me fir rollback request? i had file a request for rollback but no reply yet. But i got rejected from Patrollers right after creating many BLP pages. So, i wont make new pages now but i will fight for vandalism. I am here wants to make community better but not any appreciation. i'm active 7-8 hours in a day. Creates 3-4 articles per day but not created any article today since i rejected for patroller rights. If i rejected for rollback right too than also i wont stop helping simple english community cause its my home and i am the family member. Peace ! Request for semi protection on Pol Pot

Hi. Could I please ask if the administrators would consider putting semi-protection on the article about Pol Pot. There has been several attempts to force information into the article, that Pol Pot committed suicide, most of these attempts have been described as "correcting vandalism", which they're clearly not. All have also been from the same IP range starting 107.77.xxx.xxx, which leads me to believe this could be from the same user. Thanks! DaneGeld (talk) 21:17, 15 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Since the vandalism is all in the same IP range it is preferred to block the offending IP's, then to semi-protect, I have placed a 1 week range block for that series of IP's. We will see if this helps to stem the tide of vandalism. -- Enfcer (talk) 21:25, 15 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I've got the article on my watchlist, so we'll see if things start to come out of the woodwork elsewhere. DaneGeld (talk) 21:31, 15 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi guys -- I've blocked this particular editor on en:. He's currently most active on 107.77.64.0/18. Those of you who have been around for a while know him -- he's banned project-wide, and has been vandalizing and harassing us since 2005. Because he's been quiet for three years some have forgotten, and new administrators may not be aware of what he does (he's been in jail for stalking and harassment for three years, but I'll say no more about that). The history of Rocky Marciano pretty much tells you what is going on -- all the sockpuppets and 64.107 and 66.99 IPs are him. Antandrus (talk) 23:42, 24 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Antandrus. Do you think a range block would be productive, or does he easily switch between ranges? Vermont (talk) 23:48, 24 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Blocking 107.77.64.0/18 would be helpful, and also 64.107.219.0/24 (Triton.edu) where he edits frequently. I rangedblocked that one on en:. He has a few others, and you can block them as they appear. I just noticed he has some active sockpuppets here (e.g. "Hankaplan"). Do you have checkuser capability locally? Antandrus (talk) 00:58, 25 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

IP user blanking talk page, offensive edit summaries

Hi. I'm bringing you the IP User:2600:100D:B102:C6FC:284F:D63C:33CE:3E92. Having already been warned by other users that they aren't allowed to blank their talk page, they've continued to blank it continuously, commenting out notes, claiming harassment and calling one editor an offensive slang word referring to gay people, as well as using foul language in their edit summaries. Can you please look into this? Thanks. DaneGeld (talk) 21:28, 16 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

User Blocked for 31 hours for Bad Behavior, along with revoking talk page access since that is where the main problems stem. -- Enfcer (talk) 22:30, 16 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to bring up the recent closure of the above for attention:

  • RfD was closed due to article being deleted per QD G4.

The deletion policy makes it very clear here: "This rule cannot be used if the article was only quickly deleted with no request for deletion.". I note that this (third) version of the article contains a claim to notability: "debuted as a lead role" (emphasis mine), as compared to the earlier two versions (which were deleted per A4, which I don't dispute) which merely assert her acting debut.

Unless we are seeking to rewrite the deletion policy, can we please adhere to procedure? Getting this RfD passed, by the way, will also make QD G4 legitimate in future. Chenzw  Talk  03:33, 19 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have to agree here. Speedies are played with too loosely here sometimes. The other bad one is the claim of notability one. If anything can remotely be assumed to be a claim whether its a true claim or not, or makes them notable or not. It can't be speedied. -DJSasso (talk) 13:55, 19 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Move request on the page Google Mail

Hi! I tried today to move the page Google Mail to Gmail, because the page title should be the service's correct name. When I clicked "Move page" the move was failed due to example a redirect exists (that title is a redirect to Google Mail) on the title that cannot be overwrited. Please can another editor try to move the page Google Mail to Gmail to make the title is the correct name of the mail service? -- Psl631 talk contributions 15:48, 19 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Done I left the old name as a redirect, because there are links to it and because, according to the article, the old name was used in the past. --Auntof6 (talk) 15:58, 19 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hulk Hogan

This is the result of around 90 changes done to the Hulk Hogan page and when I had a proper look at all the changes it seems someone is playing with the page. I reported this problem in the talk page and now watching it happen again and again brings the discussion here. Please have a closer look. Thanks.-BRP ever 11:18, 21 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

(Non-administrator observation) From what I know, that is a LTA whose name I can't remember. They do subtle BLP disruptive editing. I've changed the date to just the year, 2011, when he declared retirement. Hopefully this should stop them from continually changing it further. Vermont (talk) 11:35, 21 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, so the editor has come back from their recently-expired 1 year block. Persistent case, too; I have applied another block lasting 3 months. Chenzw  Talk  16:05, 21 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Permissions for Flood

Hello administrators! I'm requesting the Flood user right. Even though I'm still new here, I am finding my way around, and would like to make quality edits (a lot), in just maybe one week or a day. I may be very busy at times, and editing here is really a hobby. Thank You :) ~ Jay Jay Marcus Keize13 ~ (talk)

For the reviewing administrator; although I doubt this would be accepted anyways I must caution against providing any userrights for the time being due to an indefinite block on the English Wikipedia for sockpuppetry. Vermont (talk) 12:32, 28 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, thanks for the heads up :) ~ Jay Jay Marcus Keize13 ~ (talk)
Not done - Not just for the reason Vermont stated with your issues stemming from en.wiki, but we generally only use that flag for bulk maintenance issues like cleaning up after closing an RfD. We have given it for temporary times, but only when the editor and granting admin were on at the same time, as the granting admin is responsible to make sure the edits are done while under the bot flag were appropriate. -- Enfcer (talk) 13:20, 28 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You won't be able to edit the page yourself if it is fully protected. Chenzw  Talk  13:34, 29 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Psl631: What is the purpose of that page? --Auntof6 (talk) 15:32, 29 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
User:Chenzw and User:Auntof6: It can be semi protected instead of fully protected, and the purpose is only a "joke" page with "404 page not found". -- Psl631 talk 15:41, 29 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think joke pages fall under what is allowed in userspace. Please remove it from anywhere that uses it and then QD it. --Auntof6 (talk) 16:04, 29 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
User:Auntof6: I added QD tag to it and changed the link to it from my userpage to random redirect instead. -- Psl631 talk 16:12, 29 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Help unblocking accounts for school project/Help addressing larger issue

Hi -- just realized I should be posting here. I have two questions, please:

1. Unblocking individual student accounts: I have a class project starting on Thrusday, 5/3/18. Project page: Wikipedia:Schools/Projects/Notable Female Activists. Currently, this account is unblocked, but all the students' accounts (listed on the project page) are blocked from editing. Is it possible to get these accounts unblocked, please?

2. Understanding activity at my IP address: I understand from the ever-helpful peterdownunder (talk · contribs) that our IP range is blocked due to vandalism. It would be helpful to know more about this issue: What type of vandalism? When did it take place, and on what pages? What accounts were involved? I would like to resolve this issue on-site, if possible, so as to lighten the load on all the wonderful editors and ambassadors who have to help us deal with blocks each year, and to add productively and responsibly to this valuable resource.

The IP range on our primary internet link is:

64.62.148.194 through 64.62.148.254

The IP range on our backup internet link is:

64.60.251.82 through 64.60.251.86

In gratitude, Castilibrary2 (talk) 15:44, 30 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Castilibrary2: is this “64.62.148.194–254” range itself static? For how long time does your ISP offer you IPs from this namely interval? Incnis Mrsi (talk) 18:06, 30 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Castilibrary2: peterdownunder , has locally exempted the IP range from the global block. The global block is in response to IP vandalism outside of your IP range, but within your ISP's range. As such they blocked the whole amount, and you are unfortunately collateral damage. The exemption peterdownunder placed should allow your students access to the site. I also checked your backup IP range, and it does not appear to be blocked. If the disabling of the Global block did not work, please let me know, also if it did not, if you could send me a list of the students account names to my email, so I can take a closer look at them Enfcer (talk · contribs · email). -- Enfcer (talk) 18:45, 30 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Enfcer: thank you -- I'll check the student accounts and let you know, asap. Thanks for pointing out that I was missing IP v ISP, glad to hear it.
@Enfcer: et al, we seem to be up and running now. Fingers crossed. In gratitude, Castilibrary2 (talk) 19:42, 30 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The LTA that changes birth months to March

I've noticed them in the past, and have chatted about it with enwiki LTA-spotters. It is a user, apparently also active on the English Wikipedia, that uses an IP address to change a couple BLP's birth months from whatever they are to March, then they leave. From what I've seen, they usually make it to a level 3 or 4 warning, only blocked a few times, and then abandons the IP. They're usually always IPv6 addresses, and there are probably many instances where their edits have gone unnoticed. They reappeared today and I was wondering if it was possible to institute a sort of "block-on-sight", where if this LTA is spotted it can be reported to WP:VIP without going through the standard 5 warnings, as this editor has a long history of subtle BLP vandalism. Thanks, Vermont (talk) 00:26, 1 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, those. I reverted some of their edits yesterday and many times in the past if I remember. So, I suggest checking dates from other wikis once. In many cases, vandalism goes unnoticed and later again vandalized. like this and this one, where dates had to be changed manually. Thanks-BRP ever 01:38, 1 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Its for situations like this that I try to impress upon people that multiple warnings are not required. -DJSasso (talk) 01:55, 1 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Request for block against Chrisangelo23

Good evening administrators. Could I please request someone takes another look at the work being undertaken by Chrisangelo23? He has been warned twice today, once by myself, once by Gotanda, and they are continuing (despite a previous short block) to make edits in language which quite simply is not suitable for this Wikipedia. Their edit summaries aren't getting any better either, for example, one on Anemoi reads "*A Proper Page". It was proper in the first place, before his complexity got into it. It is clear that the suggestions and information we're providing to this editor simply are not getting through and, regrettable as it is, it seems longer blocks are going to be necessary to hammer the message home. Many thanks. DaneGeld (talk) 19:11, 1 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to note that they were previously blocked for 48 hours after this discussion on Simple Talk. Vermont (talk) 19:48, 1 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for linking that, Vermont. I did mention the previous short block, but forgot to wikilink it so people could see the previous comments. DaneGeld (talk) 19:57, 1 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Macdonald-ross blocked them for 72 hours, although I doubt that will solve it. I support enacting a topic ban from mythology related articles, and an indefinite ban if they continue to ignore community consensus. Vermont (talk) 20:00, 1 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
To be honest with you, I don't think a topic ban would solve the problem. He would probably turn his attention to other kinds of article and continue. I can't say that for certain, but I think it's likely that is what would happen. I would support a longer ban in this case - maybe an increase from 72 hours to 2 weeks. The last block being 48 hours, I don't think this is going to be a discouragement. As you do, I would also support an indefinite ban if they fail to comply with our requirements for editing. DaneGeld (talk) 20:15, 1 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that such a topic ban wouldn't be effective. Reason 1: user has already made problematic edits on non-mythology pages. Reason 2: the issue with the user's edits, which is not using simple language, isn't specific to mythology topics. --Auntof6 (talk) 20:36, 1 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Pages created by 107.77.233.237

All of the articles will likely need to be deleted (or simplified), as they're all complex, mostly copied from the English Wikipedia, and they show no intention of simplifying them. Thanks, Vermont (talk) 00:16, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I just noticed that they also copied over someone's talk page from en.wiki, and brought over many templates. This is the LTA that continually creates administration related templates and articles copied from enwiki. Vermont (talk) 00:19, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think error: {{lang}}: text has italic markup used to show up always like one here. Is there a problem with {{lang}}?-BRP ever 16:46, 9 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

When italic markup is removed the error is fixed but is that problem with the page or template? There are some pages with this problem.-BRP ever 16:54, 9 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I don't remember seeing that in the past, either. Maybe it has to do with the template getting refreshed by import a few months ago. I guess we should remove the italic markup. Fortunately, Category:Lang and lang-xx template errors seems to contain these, so we should be able to find them.
By the way, this isn't really an admin issue: non-admins could look at this just as well. :) --Auntof6 (talk) 18:23, 9 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Oops, I thought it was an issue with the template update. So, importing an updated template would help. Infact when I saw same problem in many pages, I was sure the problem was with template because Notting was changed in the pages. Anyways ST would have been much much better place. Thanks:)-BRP ever 00:26, 10 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Importing an updated template could indeed cause the problem. The old version might have ignored the italic markup being passed to it, and the new, imported version might check for it. However, if the enwiki version has been updated since we imported it a few months ago maybe we need to import it again. Or maybe we need to back-level our cooy, or maybe just fix the code in the articles. --Auntof6 (talk) 02:53, 10 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Enwiki also shows the same error so it might be better if we remove the italic markup. Is there a bot which can do such work? If not I would like to request the flood flag here since there are around 500 pages.-BRP ever 03:19, 10 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I will take care of it when I get a chance. -DJSasso (talk) 11:24, 10 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The real issue for most of the errors is that they are using other templates that haven't been updated yet. So I am slowly fixing them. Some of them that use the lang template directly really should just be replaced with the proper template, easiest way to do that is to grab the same set of text of en.wiki. But as I said I will get this all cleaned up, no need to worry about it unless you stumble on one that I haven't fixed yet and want to do it yourself. -DJSasso (talk) 11:42, 10 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, okay. Updating language template might be a good choice. Some needs to be removed from pages but it can be done after the update is finished. I think few pages will remain that way.-BRP ever 11:48, 10 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Weird display error for Selected Article

At the moment Billy Graham is the Selected Article. When I look at the front page the snippet is out of sync and reads, "William Franklin Graham, Jr. (born November 7, 1918) better known as Billy Graham, is an Evangelical Christian and an evangelist. He is a member of the Southern Baptist Convention." When I click through I get the up to date article. I don't think it can be my browser cache. Thanks, Gotanda (talk) 05:09, 18 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The snippets aren't taken from the actual article itself, they are written separately in separate places. The snippet is what it looked like when it was promoted. (and any fixes people might have made to the snippet). It does not reflect exactly what is in the actual articles. In this case the snippet is located at Wikipedia:Very good articles/Billy Graham. -DJSasso (talk) 11:17, 18 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the info. I didn't realize those previews were separate. I updated with the current intro text. --Gotanda (talk) 23:26, 18 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Request for restore

Hi, Hugo Gaston page was quickly deleted because of not claiming notability. before I wrote it, I read the notability policy here in simple, and in the part about athletes it says: "For guidelines on notability for particular sports see Notability in sport", so this means we have the same rules as enwiki, and the rules there say that Hugo Gaston meets the main two requirements for junior players in tennis (winning a junior grand slam title and being in the top 3 of junior ITF world rankings). thanks MohamedTalk 13:32, 2 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, here's the explanation. With his career high ATP ranking of 1335, there is no way he could be regarded as notable. But his Orange bowl win does put him in the frame because, as you say, a junior player may count the Bowl as one of the two criteria needed for notability. So I'm going to reverse the deletion. Macdonald-ross (talk) 15:51, 2 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. MohamedTalk 17:01, 2 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Don't forget Macdonald-ross, rank and skill don't relate to notability other than to make the likelihood of getting press higher. You could be the worst player in the world, but if sources can be found writing about you, you are notable. And with quick deletion you can't judge whether someone is notable or not, only whether the article claims they are. So if it says they have a world rank or something along those lines they have made a claim. Judgment on whether a claim is valid is for Rfd. -DJSasso (talk) 02:19, 3 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Can you deleted this wikipedia: https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Bekir_Bruno_Brun%C4%8Devi%C4%87

Hey, he is violating the 3 revert rule too. Please block Davey2010.
@74A: Please remember to sign your posts by putting four tildes (~~~~) at the end of each one. Thanks. As for your complaint, I think you both violated 3RR. When you saw that there was an issue with your edit, you should have discussed it instead of continuing to add/remove the information. --Auntof6 (talk) 02:33, 5 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Auntof6 - I did ask them to sign their posts however they found adding 4 tildes was "hard work",
As for the edit warring - I explained to them what the issue was twice and twice told them what they needed to do, As per BRD they're required to go to the talkpage (or mine) and discuss it (which they did) but that doesn't then give them a right to carry on reverting, I acted within policy here. –Davey2010Talk 02:48, 5 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Supposed links to film titles redirect back to the article. Please have a look at the QD and is User:Sumangulia53 a sock? --Gotanda (talk) 00:45, 5 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I forgot to provide the direct link to the article. Vicky kadian And, in between User:Sumangulia53 has blanked this notification. --Gotanda (talk) 01:29, 5 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I would also like to bring the user's editing behaviour to attention - they are editing at a rapid rate, with each single revision corresponding to one line of added text. It is clogging up recent changes and cluttering up the revision history of the articles concerned. Repeated attempts to engage the editor on their user talk page have had no effect so far. One Click Archiver

Hi, I've installed the en:User:Technical 13/Scripts/OneClickArchiver to my common.js here and it works fine .... however as I don't have any sort of knowledge with the coding or bugs (I've just copied and pasted from EN) I was wondering if someone with more knowledge could have this in their common.js and then to create the "User:X/OneClickArchiver" page here so other editors can use this script ?,

I don't mind having it in my common.js and setting the page up for others to use but I feel iffy with essentially taking responsibility for something I have 0% knowledge about and ofcourse if anything goes wrong it's down to me to fix so was hoping someone could kindly take that responsibility ?, Many thanks, –Davey2010Talk 16:26, 5 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Changed Ann to "Archive", Added ":en:" to the Wikilinks (see [here) - The archive seems to now work fine but as I said I'd rather not take full responsibility as the above fixes were purely guesswork (ie no clue involved!) but if no one wants to that's understandable and I'll use it as a personal thing. –Davey2010Talk 17:44, 5 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You don't actually even have to install it here, you can call it from en.wiki. Just put the following in your common.js or skins js importScriptURI('//en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Technical_13/Scripts/OneClickArchiver.js&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript'); By doing it this way you will get any fixes he makes as he makes them. -DJSasso (talk) 19:16, 5 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Djsasso, Ah brilliant thank you so much!, I tried importScript( 'User:Technical_13/Scripts/OneClickArchiver.js' );// Backlink: User:Technical_13/Scripts/OneClickArchiver which didn't work and then just this moment tried importScript( 'User:Technical_13/Scripts/OneClickArchiver.js' ); // Backlink: User:Technical_13/Scripts/OneClickArchiver which I knew wouldn't work but tried as a last resort anyway, The link you provided I would never have got not in a million years so thanks so much for that!, Sorry to be a pain but could you delete User:Davey2010/OneClickArchiver.js as obviously not needed now, Many thanks again for your help, –Davey2010Talk 19:37, 5 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. Its probably not needed much here. I really need to remember to set my bot to go regularly again to handle archiving. I was just doing it when I thought of it incase BarrasBot came back but it doesn't look likely so I should do that tonight. -DJSasso (talk) 19:40, 5 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Especially with EN the older I've got the less I enjoy manually archiving so I'm trying to set up automatic ones instead :), Your archive bot would miss my talkpage quite a lot I think and I didnt want to be a nuisance all the time telling you so thought it'd be easier if I were to try and use 1CA so that way I'm not pestering you 24/7 :), Apologies for the disruption and again thanks so much for your help :), Take care, –Davey2010Talk 19:54, 5 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah my bot at the moment only runs every couple weeks when I think of it. If I set it to run automatically it would hit it every day, I just keep forgetting to do it lol. -DJSasso (talk) 20:07, 5 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ah that's okay no worries :), With EN I prefer to leave a few a month but with every other project I prefer the talkpage being archived once every other day , Not sure why it's just something I prefer lol, Anyway many thanks again, –Davey2010Talk 20:39, 5 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Just a small update for anyone that cares - I've created User:Technical 13/1CA with what it does and how to install,
I've created Template:Aan which is the archive talkpage notice
and I've also created Template:Archive basics for those like me who prefer "Archive Year" as opposed to "Archive number" (So instead of having the generic "Archive 1, 2 ,3" etc you can have "Archive 2018" or Archive 6789468594"- As long as it ends in a number you can use any number(s) you want),
Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 01:23, 6 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Update-Plus's edit to User talk:Aticle 2018 is evident that he is a sock of Global-Plus; no question about that. Quick deletion removing

This is a follow-up to a discussion with Vermont on my talk page. So, just to clarify, are only sysops allowed to remove QD tags? If this is the case, then this should probably be mentioned on the {{QD}} template, the template's documentation, and/or the deletion policy. This is rather different than other wikis including Wikipedia, and I definitely think it would be helpful for editors if it were written out somewhere.--SkyGazer 512 (talk) 14:06, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like there might be some confusion here - we do take policy direction from EN in cases of ambiguity or where our policy pages do not prescribe any action. A quick search in the community archives suggests that there have been disagreements over this point - Wikipedia:Simple_talk/Archive_67#PGA_and_Wijerd_Jelckama, Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Current_issues_and_requests_archive_50#Removing_inaccurate_quick_deletion_tags. Chenzw  Talk  15:27, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
QD notices are always examined by mops. Anyone can improve these pages to make sure they do not get deleted. However, it's not good practice for an IP or registered user to preempt the decision by removing the notice. Have faith that something sensible will be done. Remember, removing a page on appropriate grounds does not prevent the topic being rewritten to meet the guidelines. Macdonald-ross (talk) 15:52, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I understand the concerns for allowing anons to de-tag QDs, but why isn't it good practice for a registered user to "preempt" decisions? If we can trust users to identify QD candidates properly, surely we can trust them to identify bad QD tags? Also concur with Dj that the template would have made it explicit if the intention was to stop any editor from removing QD tags. Chenzw  Talk  01:25, 23 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Anyone who was not the main contributor to the page may remove a quick deletion template if it is not appropriate. Speedies are immediately undeletable (and sent to Rfd if so desired) once someone objects to their deletion so other editors may remove the tag because deleting them just to have them immediately undeleted would be crazy. I should also note the template goes out of its way to make sure you know you can't remove them from ones you created yourself because you can remove them from ones other people created. -DJSasso (talk) 16:31, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sitenotice because of closure proposal?

Hello all, as you probably know, there is a proposal to close this Wiki (and to merge its content into EnWP, perhaps with a separate namespace). The problem I see there: We have 30-odd regular editors, EnWP has thousands of them. But we do have half a million daily views. Would you think putting up a site notice which tells people to go expresss their opion on the closure discussion be a good idea? Just thoughts...--Eptalon (talk) 08:14, 23 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think it's necessary to do so. If anything, it would bring a few hundred IP's, many of which would likely vandalize the proposal, and the others would flood the discussion. Vermont (talk) 09:54, 23 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Anyone who is a regular here and likely to care will most likely see simple talk. I don't forsee this closure going through as there is clearly no consensus at the discussion. -DJSasso (talk) 01:24, 24 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Incomplete RFD procedure

An ip nominated around 6 pages for RFD but they added RFD template only. Since the process is incomplete those pages are not listed in RFD page so they are unlikely to be noticed. So reporting it here. Those pages can be seen here or here. Thanks-BRP ever 12:23, 27 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I found another case today, where three items were not showing up on the RfD page. One had comments, so probably was there some time; the other two had no comments. What do you think, would it be time for a software/script review? --Eptalon (talk) 08:21, 6 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I think it's hard for newcomers to realise they have to actually put a copy onto the WP:RfD page manually. Macdonald-ross (talk) 09:01, 6 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, a script review would be a good idea.--Peterdownunder (talk) 12:33, 6 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I think the issue really is that people don't go to the Rfd page to create them so they they don't see the rather simple to follow instructions at Wikipedia:Requests_for_deletion#Discussed_deletion. I think they often just create pages that look the same as other ones they see created. Something you learn fast in software development is you can't out code people just not following instructions. -DJSasso (talk) 12:58, 6 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
We had a similar discussion at Wikipedia:Simple_talk/Archive_122#"Lost"_RfDs... RFD with the use of twinkle is easy but manually it might be complicated even for experienced editors. I think all three request Eptalon mentioned were done manually and by new users who are not familiar with RFD procedure. If software/script can make things easier then we can use that but if not we can see where RFD template is used or in the category for current RFDs and help them to complete the procedure. And we can add some more time for the discussion and notify the creator/contributor of the page if not notified.-BRP ever 13:01, 6 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Admins, please be aware for vandalism & socks

Hi. I am alerting administrators now, to save time later: recently, I was made an administrator on the website Vikidia, a Kid's version of a Wiki by the French User fr:Utilisateur:Astirmays. I have made an enemy over there, for removing racist abuse and hate speech, and I've just had someone (who isn't registered over there) ask me if I'm still working there. I've made it clear that I am, and I suspect it may be the user(s) I've blocked. I have had some racially offensive usernames and accounts created using my username as part of them, and also myself and other administrators have been harassed to stupidity. This is to make admins aware that if you see anything concerning me in the User creation logs, or you deal with vandalism on my talk or userpage, please make me aware of it as soon as possible as it may be of use in preventing attacks on the other site I work on! Thanks! DaneGeld (talk) 23:55, 17 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest you WP:DENY them. They are here just to attract attention and waste our time. So, instead of giving them special attention we should treat them like any other vandals. They are just getting what they want if we start treating them differently.-BRP ever 03:00, 18 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

When deleting pages

I'd like to respectfully remind my fellow admins (and myself!) that, when deleting pages, there may be additional things that also need deleting. Besides talk pages, which the software flags for us, there could be regular redirects (which could be caught later at Special:BrokenRedirects), category redirects (which would not show up at Special:BrokenRedirects), template subpages (including doc pages, sandbox pages, and others), and possibly other things. Might we want to make ourselves a checklist for this? --Auntof6 (talk) 11:57, 18 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I think that would be a good idea.--Peterdownunder (talk) 12:00, 18 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Or add that to the requests for deletion template. I imagine there's a way to code "if redirects to the page exist, they are these" but I have no idea. - Ricky81682 (talk) 11:01, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
There's already a link that will tell you everything that links to the page. The thing is, not everything that needs to be deleted actually links to the main page. --Auntof6 (talk) 11:20, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I started a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Deletion policy#Checklist for what extras might need to be deleted. I know this won't really be policy, but I couldn't think of a better central place for the discussion. --Auntof6 (talk) 06:53, 22 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Mass Copy/Paste Articles

The below editors have copy/pasted several articles regarding racing events from enwiki. Some have been selectively copy/pasted to appear to be different from the enwiki version, but complex language remains. There are different IP addresses, but appears to be the same editor. Instead of tagging them all with QD A3, I'm asking a sysop to review the changes and make mass adjustments at their discretion.

I’ve been desperately trying to reposition/correct an entry about me here

Hello, my name is Craig Carrington, and I am attempting to reach somone regarding either dismantling an entry about myself on a portion of Wikipedia or at least relocating it.

Making a long story short, I am a professional artist who has spent a quarter century now trying to protect myself from “furries” who discovered my work back when my career was first getting started and have been trying to have me labeled a “furry” ever since. I didn’t even know about their cult group at the time, and yet they insist that I am supposedly a “furry” (they have also physically stalked me to my home as well).

A decade ago, I was horrified to discover that somebody had listed me on something called “Furry Wiki” here https://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Craig_Carrington which upset me terribly and caused me even more grief from them just as I was hoping the situation had blown over.

I certainly would not mind a Wikipedia entry about myself at all; what I do mind is that someone has chosen to put it on this “Furry Wiki” branch of Wikipedia (or is it even really connected to you?) instead.

Over the past decade I have attempted to contact Wikipedia about the issue, and I have also attempted to contact the author of the entry at least twice - the first time politely asking for it to be either moved to mainstream Wikipedia or deleted (which was snubbed), and the second informing them that I would file suit if necessary to get it either changed or removed.

Nothing has changed except for the original author’s apparent stubbornness in ignoring my request, which does not surprise me as I have learned the hard way that the “furries” are an extremely stubborn and infuriating bunch who insist on labeling others a member of their “furry” cult whether or not they want to join.

I am not and never have been a “furry”, and to this day I am extremely upset about the entry and the problems it has caused me.

So I am asking via this forum if somebody in charge could at the very least move the entry into the ordinary branch of Wikipedia, or simple delete it altogether.

Your assurance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

-Craig Carrington --— Preceding unsigned comment added by Stardustwherewolfe (talkcontribs) 03:04, 25 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Stardustwherewolfe: The wiki that you linked to is not related to Wikipedia. "Wiki" is a general term for this type of website, and there are many wikis besides Wikipedia. Unless there is an article about you on Wikipedia, I don't think we can help you. You would need to contact the administrators of the wiki where the article is. It seems that we can't help with this, but let us know if there's something you need help with here. --Auntof6 (talk) 04:41, 25 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Another probable sock of globally locked user - latest article.

IV Milan Triennial (1900) was created by a new account which is almost certainly a sock of the globally banned and locked account Alec Smithson. For background see Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Current issues and requests archive 49#Highly problematic articles by socks of a globally blocked user and en:Wikipedia:Long-term abuse/Alec Smithson. The new article contained spurious claims and references and highlights an "artist", Carlo Bazzi, whose article was created by Smithson on English Wikipedia and was deleted there [6]. It also confuses the it:Triennale di Milano founded in 1923 with the Triennale di belle arti held at the Brera Academy and founded in 1891. I have redirected the article to Brera Academy with an appropriate sentence added concerning the exhibition. The administrators Peterdownunder and Macdonald-ross are familiar with the problems he has caused here on Simple Wikipedia. I'll leave it in your hands. Flood flag

Requesting WP:FLOOD as I work through Category:Wikipedia pages with incorrect protection templates. My user rights Operator873talkconnect 18:37, 10 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

There are only 66 pages in that category. That amount doesn't really need the flood flag. --Auntof6 (talk) 18:47, 10 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Auntof6: Ok, thank you. Operator873talkconnect 19:11, 10 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Flood flag (new)

I plan on fixing all 1,523 articles in this category using AWB. Requesting the flood flag. Operator873talkconnect 15:59, 11 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Down to 1,123 articles remaining. Taking a break for a bit. Operator873talkconnect 22:10, 11 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Have you had the flood flag before? The rules are:
  • You specify exactly what you want to do while you have the flag, and how long you want the flag for (so that either an admin will be available to remove it when you are done or it can be set to automatically expire).
  • While you have the flag, you work only on what you said you need the flag for: no anti-vandalism work, no talk page messages, no working on other things, etc.
  • After you are given the flag, you have to log out and back in for it to take effect.
  • When the flag is removed or expires, you must log out and back in again.
So can you say when you want it and for how long? --Auntof6 (talk) 02:49, 12 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

And by the way, it's deprecated, not depreciated! :D --Auntof6 (talk) 03:04, 12 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Auntof6: As if it wasn't too terribly obvious, no I haven't had the flood flag before. I was honestly "best guessing" the request from previous requests I've found in archives. I wasn't aware I needed to cease all other operations while the flag was active, but I really appreciate you giving me the heads up before I did something silly. I'm about to resume working on the category; exact work being performed is removing depreciated image syntax from templates on the remaining 1,123 articles in the above category. I'm using AWB with a Find/Replace setup that I thoroughly tested on beta before even asking for permission to use AWB here. Essentially, all it does is remove [[File: or [[Image: from the beginning of a file name and everything that follows it. I'm running AWB setup to require me to approve each edit before saving. AWB will also make misc corrections in the article, as I'm sure you're familiar with. But I review all changes before saving. As for how long? I'd estimate 90 minutes will be fine.
That all being said, there's no much activity tonight (Friday's are usually slow WMF wide), I can proceed without the flag. If any editor feels my changes are disrupting Recent Changes feed, I'll halt work until it can be implemented. I already monitor this page for changes, so I'll be alerted to any messages. If that's ok with you Auntof6 and other attending admins. Operator873talkconnect 03:56, 12 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That's OK with me. Marking your changes as minor might help, too, because people can suppress those from their display. Just make sure the image displays correctly after your change because, as somebody else mentioned, different templates here have different syntax requirements for images. Some may still need the File: prefix (those templates might themselves need updating), some may need parameters for size specified on the same line, etc. Even if some parameters have been deprecated (D-E-P-R-E-C-A-T-E-D, with no "I"!), that doesn't mean that our version of a template has been updated to work without the deprecated parameters(s). --Auntof6 (talk) 04:22, 12 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, and if you ever do work under the flood flag, you turn off AWB's general fixes and spelling correction. If working without it, it's OK to leave those on. --Auntof6 (talk) 04:27, 12 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Auntof6: LOL omg I've been reading that and going "what is she talking about?!" annnnnnnnd now I know. Sometimes (as my edit summaries occasionally atest too) I'm not awesome when I'm typing a jillion miles an hour. As far as the templates are concerned, I've learned which templates are ok with the lack of File: and which aren't. I've even learned some templates like {{Infobox website}} are ok with no File: on the icon image, but not the screenshot image. WP is weird sometimes. All edits are already marked m to exclude them as you said. If you have a follow-on task for me to look at, let me know! Maybe on talk page since we are blowing up ANI right now. :-) Operator873talkconnect 04:31, 12 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Requesting for Patroller/Rollerback

Hello I am putting this request here while being fully aware I had already done so permissions sometime back but i never got any response there. I don't know if this is kind of being setting my ambitions to high. But I have actively participated here since I joined and one of the things I noticed is that they ain't too many patrollers to patrol new articles as soon as they are uploaded on this Wikipedia, I have had to work and admired the help of user:Operator873, user:MiloDenn, user:BRPever and offcause admin user:Auntof6 who have all been directing me and correcting my flaws when I fault. I have since created about 40 articles, made about 100 edits per day and gave appropriate warnings to vandals since I noticed some editors, mostly IP users vandalise. I have tried to revert and inform them of my actions on their talk. I have also improved aricles set for QD which were not upto our standard because I thought they needed improvement not DQ. They include Kevin De Bruyne and Antoine Griezmann. I have enjoyed every bit of being here and also set QD to articles I thought needed to go. However, I must also admit that I have made flaws too in my efforts to make this a great platform, among them is the issue of red links, for which I have reserved counsel from user:Operator873 and I have heeded his call never do undo. Thus, i wish to acquire the rights in order to make the work of patrolling and rollback a lot for easier for fellow colleagues as active as I possibly can. Best regards MyPeople76 (talk) 11:21, 13 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You made your request in an archive of old requests so it wasn't looked at. You can request rollback at Wikipedia:Requests for permissions#Current requests for rollback. As far as Patroller, I would recommend not requesting it yet as your request would likely be denied as you are very new to this wiki. -DJSasso (talk) 13:29, 13 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Harrassment from Users

I desperately need an administrator to assist in protecting my page from being deleted! We have worked very hard to recognize Chairman Sean P. Jackson and have followed Wikipedia's rules precisely. Two users in particular continue to abuse their authority by making false claims and attempted to flag our page however our guidelines meet your requirements. The users are: Drmies and MShabazz. These two users continue to leave identical comments and converse amongst one another. These two users are attempting to delete our article about Chairman Jackson because of their being upset about my repeated attempts to add Chairman Jackson's name to an article titled: List of African-American republicans". Please refer to comments left on that page as they are antagonizing. Chairman Jackson is a national figure and deserves to have an article with Wikipedia. Thank you sjacksonn01Sjacksonn01 (talk) 01:42, 15 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

That dispute is happening on the English Wikipedia, not here on the Simple English Wikipedia, so we can't help you. Your concerns would be better left at en:WP:ANI, although from my brief checking it doesn't look like harassment. Vermont (talk) 01:47, 15 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I am trying to find a replacement image for the National Rail logo on Template:Rail-interchange, but the only one I can find is on enwiki ([7]), and appears to be copyrighted. My question is whether since it is on wikipedia I can use it or not (I presume not but better to check), and if not what I should use for the national rail logo? Thanks, Milo, Talk, Contribs 08:20, 27 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If the image is only on English Wikipedia, we can't use it here. It would have to be in Wikimedia Commons. Which image are you referring to? If there are no images on Commons, it could be that the logos are copyrighted. --Auntof6 (talk) 08:55, 27 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
On Template:Rail-interchange in the documentation under "And some specials" there are three items, and the middle one, GB Rail, is missing a logo. I was looking for an image to put there... Milo, Talk, Contribs 09:01, 27 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Import request "Asteroid impact prediction" from English Wikipedia

I was about to import an article from English Wikipedia, but reading the import instructions, I clicked on the import guidebook link and got here: Wikipedia:Transwiki_attribution, where I read that "Any user can request an import by an admin at the administrators' noticeboard.". I wrote most of the original article text, and plan to update it with more technical details, however when I wrote the initial article I tried to keep the English simple and avoided technical terms such as Solar Elongation, Phase Angle etc. so I'm hoping that it won't take too much work to become a Simple English Wikipedia article. Please can you import it for me? Also, is there a checker tool available to check for vocabulary that is not allowed? Thanks in advance. Rafflesgluft (talk) 14:22, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Rafflesgluft: Hey there and welcome to Simple English Wikipedia! I hope you like your stay here. Before you start editing, there are a few things you should know about this Wikipedia verses English Wikipedia. Take a look at WP:SIMPLE for the basics, and you can find a word list (simple language) here. It can be quite challenging to write a scientific or in-depth article, but I think you may find the challenge appealing. There is still a lot to do here so feel free to settle in and experiment. One of our admins, Auntof6 has made this list of some other things that are significantly different from our sister project. As for importing the article, I'll leave that for one of our admin to decide what to do... but I strongly suggest not importing it at all and restart the article from scratch. Doing so will prevent any chance of more complex English sneaking it's way into the article. If you need any type of help, don't hesitate to leave me a message on my talk page. Again, welcome to our community and let me know if I can be of any help. Operator873talkconnect 14:58, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I have imported it for you. -DJSasso (talk) 15:38, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Operator873 Djsasso Thanks both. Unfortunately my available time slot isn't enough to write the article from scratch twice, but hopefully making a conscious effort to keep it simple when I was writing it will have helped. I'll have a look at the links and edit it. Thanks again.Rafflesgluft (talk) 16:43, 28 August 2018 (UTC) PS edits now completed.[reply]

Of the six remaining ones, only two have reached their close dates. Several of the ones you closed hadn't reached their close dates yet. It's true that admins are allowed to close requests early, but I don't think you can call it a backlog until there are many RfDs actually past their close date. --Auntof6 (talk) 09:41, 8 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Auntof6: or any other roaming sysop, I've decided to go ahead and ask for flood flag. Duration of flag can be set to expire in one hour. Thank you. Operator873talkconnect 02:09, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Operator873: I'm here now. I see you're already working on it: do you still want the flag? You'd have to log in again for it to take effect. --Auntof6 (talk) 02:30, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

PS: Login to turn off must be done after expiration or manual removal. --Auntof6 (talk) 02:37, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Auntof6: Just curious: are you sure about the logout/login part? May be true here; I don't know. On ladwiki, I don't seem to have to do that. (But maybe that's because I'm a sysop there?) StevenJ81 (talk) 15:19, 13 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Not 100% sure. When I give myself the flood flag, I have found that I need to do a new login if I'm using AWB, but not if I'm working in the same browser where I set the flag. I suppose the software might have changed. We could test it some time if you want, but I don't have time to do that right now. --Auntof6 (talk) 17:14, 13 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

┌────────────────┘
In about an hour to an hour and a half, I will be in a position to assist testing this issue. We can evaluate the affect of flood flag on normal edits as well as via AWB. Test edits should be confined to a single mainspace article and be null edits such as <!-- null edit --> unless a better idea is presented of course. Operator873talkconnect 18:25, 13 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'm definitely curious. I don't use AWB—I keep meaning to try it, and never seem to have time. So I've always been working in the same browser where I set the flag. StevenJ81 (talk) 18:29, 13 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'm home and available for testing if anyone wants to go through the motions... you know... for science. Operator873talkconnect 19:55, 13 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It is due to AWB not seeing you have the flag because it only grabs your flags when you login. So you have to log out on AWB and back in so AWB will see the flag. -DJSasso (talk) 15:43, 14 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
All of which makes me wonder the following:
  • If you have to log out and log back in anyway, why not simply run AWB from a bot account and be done with it? Is there a reason I am missing that it is better to do it with one's primary account set to "flood"? StevenJ81 (talk) 18:38, 14 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
One difference that I know: On AWB, bot accounts can do automatic saves, so that you can make a !ot of changes without a person being able to check each one. We'd want to limit the number of people who can do that. --Auntof6 (talk) 20:28, 14 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. But I'm thinking about a "bot" account that isn't really running a true "bot" (i.e., a fully-automated process). I'm talking about one that is running semi-automated processes under direct manual supervision. I use my bot account on Incubator exactly and strictly for that: (1) large amounts of category work using Cat-A-Lot, and (2) running a gadget we have there for bulk deletion of pages. (It's not "Nuke", it's what we use mostly to delete test projects once they've been turned into independent subdomain projects.) Does AWB interpret the "bot" flag and the "flood" flag differently from each other? StevenJ81 (talk) 22:14, 14 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
AWB doesn't look at the flood flag at all, just the bot flag. --Auntof6 (talk) 23:11, 14 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Really it comes down to trust levels. An admin when they give the flood flag are supposed to go through the persons edits and make sure they didn't do anything bad while they had the flood flag. It is a temporary flag whereas the bot flag is permanent and thus once it is given chances are not a lot of checking is going on. -DJSasso (talk) 14:10, 17 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Help with editing bootcamp

This Saturday, 9/22 from 9am-1pm PDT, I'm going to have a workshop for up to 30 students to learn how to edit Wikipedia. There will be multiple computers from the same IP address trying to edit WP, with usernames, at the same time. Would you be in a position to help clear the way ahead of time so my students can avoid getting blocked? Or should I direct this request to another editor/ambassador who controls those switches? As always, thanks. Swim123blue (talk) 20:13, 17 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I should be available. That's 11am CDT if I'm not mistaken. I'll clear my schedule and be ready to assist as needed. Operator873talkconnect 03:55, 18 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks --Peterdownunder (talk) 04:19, 18 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Swim123blue: As far as blocking goes there is no automated blocking per se. You may run into account creation limit throttles, and edit throttles, which are both automated. I would recommend your students create their account prior to your class, on a computer IP address not located on the one you are going to use. If this is not possible, you can request Account Creator Access temporarily for this event which would bypass your account from the 6 per day IP based Account Create Throttle or an Admin can help, but we will need email addresses for the accounts to be created for the passwords to be sent to, so it is better if you or the student can create those. I will be at work when this event is going on. I should be able to monitor it from work, but can not guarantee that. -- Enfcer (talk) 23:57, 18 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Rash of templates

Who is this person, and why do we need all these templates? Surely editors should discuss before they go on such a binge. Macdonald-ross (talk) 08:31, 22 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, they should! Yesterday, the IP 2606:A000:6990:A800:25D5:E51E:46D8:E33A created literally dozens of them. I haven't checked them all but at least one, Template:Spa, appears to be malformed. Also, the documentation in others is full of red links. Others are rather pointless redirects, e.g [8] and they appear to have been copied wholesale from English Wikipedia. Hence the red links. Others like Template:Copied multi use external links to diffs on English Wikipedia as examples. Voceditenore (talk) 09:48, 22 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
They seem to be colied directly from enwiki. I think we should delete the templates and ask the user not to create any more without community consensus. Vermont (talk) 12:04, 22 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
And now they're messing with RfD pages and posting RfD notifications to talk pages of inactive users. I'm going to warn them and delete most of the templates. Vermont (talk) 12:50, 22 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Macdonald-ross, I've checked the IP range. See User:Vermont/Reports/Other Notes#Template Creators. I deleted the templates directly copied from enwiki, the vast majority of which were AfD templates or some other process unique to enwiki that is useless here or we already have templates for, and I also deleted the dozen or so articles they made in Wikipedia: space that are direct copies of the English Wikipedia pages (their Requested Moves page had even copied moving discussions from enwiki). They're creating more now; do we have consensus to block? I warned them on their talk page about 40 minutes ago. Vermont (talk) 13:31, 22 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I was close to deleting the templates myself yesterday. However, I just now looked at the message that was left on the user's talk page, and I think we need to do better than that. Explain that we are a separate wiki and don't use the same templates and other things that enwiki does. Explain that we don't want templates here that aren't going to be used. Then explain that their continuing to create these unused and unneeded templates is disruptive and ask them to stop. The current message on their talk page doesn't do any of that, so the user might not understand that there's a problem other than one user not liking what they're doing. Let's try to get their attention and cooperation before blocking them. --Auntof6 (talk) 18:53, 22 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Auntof6, the messages would be pointless. These are dynamic IPs with at least 4 involved in the disruption. The whole range is blocked on the English Wikipedia for the same disruption. See [9]. Furthermore they are sock IPs of the globally locked account Zacharycook597. Another of his socks, Zacharycook503 (talk · contribs) edited here until 9 September when he was blocked by Vermont. Note that the first two messages on User talk:Zacharycook503 are from his English Wikipedia talk page. He placed them here himself for some strange reason. On 22 September his account was also globally locked [10]. See also en:Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Zacharycook597/Archive. Voceditenore (talk) 08:02, 23 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

South-Asia National Symbol IP Editor

A significant portion of edits by 88.106.13.139 are hoaxes, such as the dozens of redirects about national symbols not actually being the national symbols of that country. The editor is also creating articles copied directly from enwiki. When deleting one of the redirects they made, I noticed that it was also deleted in 2013 in a mass deletion of pages by 80.44.247.122. Although they are completely different IP ranges, based on behavior it seems very likely they're the same editor. As I was not here in 2013, is this an LTA/sockpuppeteer that I'm not recognizing? It seems like their edits are generally disruptive, as some are good and many are bad. If not, I'm not sure what to do with this editor. I've gone through a lot of the edits, although not all of them, and I have left a warning on their talk page that they seem to have ignored. Vermont (talk) 00:16, 23 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

See User:Chenzw/Reports/Pakistan. Not saying it's the same person, but it's at least in the duck family. --Auntof6 (talk) 00:23, 23 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
After checking the reports, I noticed that 80.44.247.122 is one of the IP's used by the Pakistan editor. Checking that IP, the one editing today, and two I picked at random from the list, they all geolocate to the same area in Britain. I believe there's enough evidence to block as the Pakistan editor. I agree I was investigating him on friday but had to run and didn't get a chance to finish. I had nuked a bunch of his redirects already. So yeah I think he can be blocked without issue. -DJSasso (talk) 16:10, 23 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I have blocked 88.106.10.74 for similar reason. They have created some redirects like National tree of Nepal which is clearly not true so probably cleanup is required.-BRP ever 12:49, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
