Hello, Prime Contributer, and welcome to the Simple English Wikipedia! I hope you will be happy helping here. You should begin by reading these pages: Wikipedia:Useful, Help:Contents, Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines, and how to write Simple English articles. If you want some ideas of which pages to work on, read Wikipedia:Requested articles or the list of wanted pages.

Even though it is a good idea to research an article (like looking at the discussion page) before making large changes, please be bold and try! Any changes you make that are not perfect can be fixed later. We are also working most on core articles and the most common topics until this Wikipedia grows.

If you want to ask a question or talk with other members, you can visit our version of the "village pump" at Wikipedia:Simple talk. Administrators on Wikipedia can also help you with more difficult problems. You can also ask me for help. The best way to do that is to leave a message on my talk page. You should always sign your messages on Talk pages by typing "~~~~" (four tildes) at the end of your words.

If you would like to test Wikipedia, please use the sandbox. Please do not test Wikipedia by editing its articles.

Good luck and happy editing! mC8 12:34, 29 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! But how did you know I wanted to edit? Is this a default? And also, the "edit" tool used to be named "change" but why has it changed? Prime Contributer (talk) 16:31, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Copying and pasting from en-wiki

[change source]

Hi PC, noticed you've been creating a lot of new pages. If one takes material from the English Wikipedia, as you did, one should mention it on the talk page. Creol created the template {{Enwp based}} to be placed on the talk pages of articles that are created based on simplified versions of En:wp pages. The template requires the complete address of the version used as the basis for the article (and will tell you if you don't include the url) while providing a link to the version itself and informing the reader of the available history of the article. This should completely cover the reference back/history requirements under the GFDL. The Rambling Man (talk) 16:18, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please see this edit to see what I've done. It's important you do this so edits can be attributed correctly, even back to en-wiki. Thanks. The Rambling Man (talk) 16:25, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I've yet to see what you posted in the last post. I'm a bit confused. Prime Contributer (talk) 16:28, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I'll use that template from now on. Does everyone do that? I've never noticed it. Prime Contributer (talk) 16:28, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This article or parts of it were created based, in whole or in part, on this version of the English Wikipedia article. The complete history of the article can be found there. Prime Contributer (talk) 16:28, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
How do you link the words to the EN Wikipedia? I always see the arrow, but I don't know how to create it. Prime Contributer (talk) 16:30, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No, people probably don't do it but they should. In order to comply with GFDL, all edits must be attributable to their original author. It's why copying and pasting articles is disallowed. It only takes a few moments to add the relevant permanent link to the talk page. All the best. The Rambling Man (talk) 16:30, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
What do you mean by "see the arrow"? The Rambling Man (talk) 16:32, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, when you wrote "This article or parts of it were created based, in whole or in part, on this version of the English Wikipedia article. The complete history of the article can be found there.", there was a link to the EN Wikipedia page. How do I create that link, without typing the entire URL out? Prime Contributer (talk) 16:35, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You need the whole URL. And you need it to be the permanent link (which you can get if you select Permanent link in the Toolbox in en-wiki. The page will reload with something like &oldid=217770067 at the end of the URL. Copy that URL and paste it into the template. The Rambling Man (talk) 16:37, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'll go try it out first. Seems confusing. Prime Contributer (talk) 16:39, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I managed it, some how. It doesn't seem like what you wrote, but it has the same effect. I didn't add the &oldid=217770067 at the end, but it still worked. Took me 3 tries. Prime Contributer (talk) 16:45, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, you need the oldid to be added. When you copy the article from English wikipedia, you need to get the "Permanent link" - this is important because the article could change many times before it's referred to here. So the Permanent link takes you to a point in the en-wiki history which is fixed. It's not that confusing. I'll fix the one you've done, and perhaps you can check it out and see if it makes sense. The Rambling Man (talk) 16:50, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know where you are in the world, but it's very late where I stay. I'm going off now, I'll try it out tommorrow, or "later". Bye. Prime Contributer (talk) 16:55, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not a problem. Have a good evening. I've made the change, the link is here. All the best, The Rambling Man (talk) 17:01, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, it was an hour past midnight. Prime Contributer (talk) 06:46, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I understand now, I'll try it out. Prime Contributer (talk) 10:53, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I managed it in "macropodiformes". Thanks. I'll do that from now on. Prime Contributer (talk) 10:53, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Bingo! Nice work. Keep up the good article creation! The Rambling Man (talk) 10:54, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ideas for edits

[change source]

Here are some ideas I had for pages for you to edit:

  • Eusociality needs simplifying; also create/sipmlify the other two concepts; find a good category for them (bology is too general).
  • Create/expand/simplify the taxonomy from Muroidea downwards, If I am informed correctly, that is all hamsters, lemmings, mice, rats...

I am currently working on the Muriodea, any help would be appreciated Okay, but I don't know what eusociality is, I'll have to check, I may not be able to help. And okay, I'll try to help on the rodents. By the way, you forgot to sign off, who are you? Prime Contributer (talk) 14:00, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have copied the article from EnWP, and started to simplify it; it basically is the used to describe the social behaviour found in ants, termites, some wasps and some bees. I think there are two African rodent species who also have a form of it. And sorry, I forgot to sign above. --Eptalon (talk) 15:14, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Insects? I though you were refering to rodents? I already created a few articles, by the way. Prime Contributer (talk) 15:18, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I was just giving you ideas - I am not fixed on rodents. There are many rodents, and many insects too - very few of them have good articles here. I think getting the article into a form that is suitable is as important as getting an article at all. So when copying over, make sure to review the categories (we don't have all of them), and remove or comment out the templates we don't have. --Eptalon (talk) 15:25, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh yes! I forgot about those. I'll do it next time. It's very late where I am. Bye! Prime Contributer (talk) 15:33, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Have made the changes recommended and now talk page refers to Wikipedia. Cheers! Peterdownunder (talk) 10:46, 26 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Baseball uniform

[change source]

Ohai. I saw you added the {{simplify}} template on the article baseball uniform. Do you think you can point out on Talk:Baseball uniform what you thought needed simplifying? I don't really see it needs further simplifying, but assuming you saw some non-simplified statements, I just would like to see where they were. Thanks, RyanCross (talk) 05:49, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Difficult to describe actually. It is more of the words and the general structure. I have a little difficulty reading the article, though it might be because I have little knowlege of baseball. Prime Contributer (talk) 06:08, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hantuchova PVGA

[change source]

Hi PC. Thanks for your comments. Can you point to exactly which criteria you feel this PVGA fails? You mentioned it was incomplete, the criterion for that says "The article must be comprehensive. A comprehensive article is not missing any major facts and details." - I've covered all the major facts such as her personal life and how she got on in every single major tournament - the Grand Slam tournaments. The en-wiki article needs serious work - it has far too much trivial information. Can you be specific about what you think is missing so I can alleviate your concerns? Also, if you could point me to the other articles which you said were as good as this but hadn't been considered very good? Thanks. The Rambling Man (talk) 10:02, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I see what you mean. I'm not too sure on what a good biography should have, but I feel it should be as comprehensive as posible. I cannot point out to you the other good articles at this momment, I cannot remember, but I'm sure I've come across quite a few before. I'll show the articles you when I come across another, but for the time being, I think I'll look at the EN version first. Prime Contributer (talk) 10:08, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've looked through other biographies, and Albert Einstein is quite up to standard, and the article on Beethoven is fully comprehensive. The Beethoven article has only been voted as "good", and I feel it to be much better than the currently voted VGA article on Hantuchova. If this article is a VGA, then I think this Wikipedia might already be able to have a featured article for each day! Prime Contributer (talk) 10:17, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
But the two articles you refer to deal with biographies of people who were around for 60, 70 or more years. Hanutchova is 25 and the article meets all PVGA criteria. As for Einstein's article, I think it's far from good - there are no references, plenty of red links, and 42 quotes?! That's just crazy. Beethoven has many red links and very, very few references. It's better than Einstein by a mile, and it may well make GA, but neither of those articles are close to VGA. The Rambling Man (talk) 10:21, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Alright, I think I need to know more about good and very good first. I'll try to read the requirements again, but not now, I need to go. Prime Contributer (talk) 10:23, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Causality

[change source]

Hello Prime Contributer. I od not have time at the moment to finish simplifying Causality, you can have a go at it if you like. The idea would be to make it simpler to understand, without losing precision. I know this may be hard to do. Peaple like David Hume also wrote about causality, see for example [:http://oregonstate.edu/instruct/phl302/distance/hume/comment2.html]. [:http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/kant-hume-causality/] may also be a help to understand it...--Eptalon (talk) 10:22, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, it's quite a feat. I find it hard to even explain it in English. Prime Contributer (talk) 12:57, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It seems to be one of the main subjects of philosphy; almost every philosopher has said something about it. I mentioned Hume because his ideas are easy to understand; I could laso have mentionen immanuel Kant (would probably be harder, though) --Eptalon (talk) 13:11, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
i'm not at home right now, I will try at home. Thanks anyway. Prime Contributer (talk) 00:51, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Translation of the Week

[change source]

Why do you keep removing the translation of the week from the Recent Changes page? -- Creol(talk) 10:45, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have answered why to Tholly. The translation link is a red link, in other words, no translation! What's the point of having it there when it links to nothing? Minor Contributer (talk) 10:46, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That is the point of the entire Totw system, to translate articles into as many languages as we can. The fact that there is no translation is exactly why it is listed - so we can translate it.-- Creol(talk) 10:49, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know. Okay, but how can you keep on changing the article weekly? Minor Contributer (talk) 10:51, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The TOTW is a project spanning all wikipedias; the idea is that it gets translated into as many languages as possible; and yes, it changes weekly (actually each Monday). --Eptalon (talk) 10:54, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

En Copy-Pasting

[change source]

Hi Minor Contributer, please remember when copying articles from en that you simplify them and remove any broken templates etc. You copied Nasal consonant and its not simple, and has broken templates and cats. Normandy (talk) 12:03, 13 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ya was working on the template for the IPA in fact after I copied it. But will take quite a while to fix all of it plus all the missing links. I did do the simplification bit. thx for the note Minor or Prime

Thank you for trying things out on Wikipedia. Your test worked, and it is now gone. You have a reply at WP:ST#Gran Turismo 4.--213.107.74.132 (talk) 08:12, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Minor Contributer. You have new messages at 213.107.74.132's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

I really think you need to have all the examples in English, otherwise most readers won't understand what the IPA symbols mean. Regards, Macdonald-ross (talk) 09:40, 20 September 2011 (UTC).[reply]

All the examples which can be shown in English are there. Those in foreign languages assume that whoever reads it either needs to learn about phonetics or knows the languages, otherwise they won't need to understand the IPA symbols - temporarily until I create the pages for each individual sound in the long term. thx for the advice Minor or Prime 09:16, 21 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

RfD nomination of Template:EN Wikipedia

[change source]

An editor has requested deletion of Template:EN Wikipedia, an article you created. We appreciate your changes, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article meets Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Please comment on the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2023/Template:EN Wikipedia and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also change the article during the discussion to address the nominator's concerns. But you should not remove the requests for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you very much. Auntof6 (talk) 21:46, 23 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
